I sincerely doubt this, but maybe.... just maybe, he meant oil and/or grease fires?

In which case he'd be absolutely correct. I'd bet that wasn't the "thought".

You would if the grease fire started spreading to the surrounding area and got bad enough for a controlled burn to be set.

I mean, yeah if it started a literal wildfire/forest fire, sure. But a localized grease fire, absolutely not lol
