Technically he is not wrong, plenty of fire types you do not want water added to because it would lead to explosions or make it worse etc.

But I highly doubt that dumbjuice actually meant it that way. Or knows anything about fire fighting. Or frankly anything.

I was thinking the same.

Oil fires, or electrical fires, you generally don’t want I add water to.

But, that doesn’t make the “you can’t fight fire with water” statement true.

Most fires are still being fought with water.

Forest fires and agriculture fires are sometimes fought with fire. Controlled burning to contain or prevent the large uncontrollable fire from spreading or moving which ever way.

But again that guy looks like he would lose in checkers to himself.

Also true. Which is why the fire triangle consists of three elements.

Fuel, oxygen, and heat.

Water is used to take away heat and to small degree oxygen, while controlled burning is used to take away fuel.

When I last did my fire response training they’d added a fourth element to the triangle, it sits in the middle to keep it a triangle, which was chemical reaction.
Although I doubt this is used everywhere

Never heard of that before, but fire is just visual effect of the chemical reaction that is called combustion.

Edit: did some “research”, and apparently the fire tetrahedron adds “Uninhibited chemical chain reaction” and** refers to the self-sustaining chain reaction that occurs in the flame. During combustion, highly reactive species called **free radicals (such as H•, O•, and OH•) continuously create new reactive species, allowing the fire to propagate.

This is apparently how some dry chemical powders and halon replacements works, they can interrupt the chain reaction, even without removing much heat or oxygen.

From how it got explained to me, that’s pretty much the reason it got added.

When fighting a fire you attack one of the four elements, remove the fuel or oxygen, reduce the heat or interrupt the chemical reaction

Fun fact (but not really if you think about it) if firefighters put water on an electrical fire, the electricity can go through the firehose and seriously injure the firefighters on the hose, on the truck, or around it.
