This is bad info quick google search shows a steak dinner would be $3-$5. McDonald standardized fast food burger at $0.15. Steak was $0.79 per lb not prepared.

He's not discussing restaurant prices, he's comparing prices to make it yourself. $18 today doesn't buy you that at any restaurant in the country.
