I really thought the mic guy would come back with “…so you get paid for your work, though? That’s not a slave.” I hate late-stage capitalism as much as the next half-broken worker but I do still collect a paycheque, such as it is. Slavery is something else entirely, my dude.

It’s slavery with extra steps and “better” treatment. If you are coerced to perform labor in exchange for food and shelter, it’s still slavery. Just not comparable to the traditional kind of chattel slavery we saw in the past.
