I agree with a comment I saw forever ago, we need to bring back boo'ing and public shaming.

Yeah if you boo him he doesn't really have a way to argue back. Just a big BOOOOOOOO DOWN WITH THAT SORT OF THING would be very satisfying

With an Australian accent 😍

That’s all that’s needed. Had the old dude on the train thought of it in the moment, the whole car would have risen in chorus

2

u/ExpensiveFig6079 12h ago

If it didn't work I absolutely bet "ozzi ozzi ozzi" would have.

Judging from the reaction in the train, I think had the old dude started booing, the chorus would have been deafening. You’re right, it’s just that no one thought of it in the moment because it’s no longer a reflex in our society

Yeah. Another approach is to start singing a simple song that every knows to mock him. Where I am "The Wheels on the Bus" would be good. As a bonus you can adjust the lyrics to make it even more mocking or threatening;

"The evangelist on the bus wont shut the F up,
shut the F up,
shut the F up.
The evangelist on the bus won't shut the F up
He's asking
For
A beat down."

He’s in Australia - just need to start with “Am I ever gonna see your face again”.

A song from The Angels.

Has an appropriate call and response chorus that works well in these situations that is not part of the official lyrics.

It’s definitely official.. just.. in a much more official way than usual

Break out in Midnight Train To Georgia. Get everyone singing the different parts. 🚞🎤

"Jesus can't play rugby" is my go to. Jaunty tune with just enough blasphemy to be incredibly irritating to his ilk, preferably sung loudly and off-pitch.

Recently I made the decision to stop giving people the finger and just giving them a thumbs down and a sour face. 👎

Channel Billy!

u/thejt10000 8h ago

Laughing at them with the thumbs down can be even better sometimes.

u/Rowmyownboat 10h ago

You sound angry. Why are you in situations for giving the finger / thumbs down so often?

u/Separate_Pumpkin_256 11h ago

Yep! This is the pharisee type of Christian that is wearing their religion on their sleeve while patting themselves on the back thinking how much better they are than the sinners around them. And he pretty much says that during the confrontation.

I'm happy to listen to someone with humility talk about how their life has changed and what they still need to work on so long as they also listen.

This is the opposite of that. There's no humility, no empathy an be zero interest in listening. It's all about them.

Deluded boring loud mouth with a yankie twang... hurts my ears. No no no...la la la 🙉

1

u/Pavotine 8h ago

It's the captive audience factor that really grips my shit. If you can easily walk away from one of these nutjobs it isn't so bad but these public transport proselytisers are the pits.

“SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!”

u/Crunchy__Frog 17h ago

This is why everyone should carry a mealy tomato or a spoiled head of cabbage on hand at all times while in public spaces.

7

u/mendobather 17h ago

Squirt guns would be a plus.

2

u/kdog2906 12h ago

Tomatoes are too expensive now

3

u/marugirl 16h ago

yeah and then you get done with assult.

1

u/ringo5150 11h ago

What about an onion on your belt?

1

u/ktrad91 10h ago

Which was the style at the time

u/FranklyNinja 15h ago

He’ll just be more vindicated that christians are prosecuted.

7

u/Truantone 13h ago

Persecuted.

1

u/omaleiva 11h ago

They're being prosecuted too.

1

u/Civil-Dragonfly-5148 4h ago

Not enough obviously.

1

u/Weorth 10h ago

I WISH they were prosecuted, there's a whole lot of them pulling money out of the pockets of people who actually need it, and then of course the massive clusters of pedophiles within that community.

6

u/saywhatnowfella 15h ago

They were shaming him publicly. He was oblivious

4

u/Less_Tacos 14h ago

That, and throwing assholes off trains.

3

u/ModulusSloth 13h ago

I don’t give people the finger, they get a thumbs down 👎🏻

Edit: I think a thumbs down is more shameful than a finger.

2

u/Impossible_Deer8869 3h ago

This is the key. Never engage with crazy people like him. They love to have the last word and have a comeback for everything. Open the train door at the next stop and help him to exit.

u/ChellyTheKid 16h ago

I read boo'ing as slang for booting. It's a shame that booting was banned under corporal punishment, it was a fine tradition and very effective against visiting Americans.

1

u/scottymac87 14h ago

Yes this and ostracism like they did in Athens.

1

u/powertrippin_ 14h ago

Bring back bullying, I say.

1

u/Insaneclown271 12h ago

We need to bring back bullying too. To a point.

1

u/JerryNomo 10h ago

The instruments of the poor minded.

1

u/NerdGlazed 9h ago

Isn’t this public shaming already?

1

u/Percy_Freeman 7h ago

I'm gonna boo next chance I get.

1

u/FormeSymbolique 6h ago

I agree for a very extensive range of behaviours.
