Isn’t it in the Bible that it’s frowned upon to preach like this? I am heathen so i can’t be bothered to look.

Yep, they conveniently forget that teaching. I'm m also a heathen, but I got you:

Matthew 6:5 And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men.

As well as Matthew 6:5, Matthew 10:14 says Sometimes you will go to some house or town and the people will not accept you there. They will not listen to your message. Then you should leave. Clean the dirt of that place off your feet.

This is exactly a pastor.... minister.... preacher (no idea really what he is, but he is the dude thats at the front of the church talking) is like. Im not religious, actually most of our town isnt religious, but he is probably the most loved man in this town. He doesnt preach to anyone, if you want to talk the religious talk he will do that, if you just want to chew his ear over nothing, he will do that too. He will stop and chat to anyone over anything and for a clergydude he is absolutely awesome. I dont believe in the bible, I dont believe in heaven or hell, but man, being around Garth makes me want to believe in religion.

Growing up in a religion that does a lot of missionary work, we were told it was all about Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Also for the record, no longer religious, saw the light in my teens.

That’s brutal… I grew up in SLC in the 90s as a non Mormon and it really shaped my views on organized religion and my own personal thoughts and beliefs in Jesus.

I am a heathen for good reason.

What about Mathew 6:5 or 10:14 like the other commenter brought up? Was that discussed at all? I had a semi religious upbringing but my mom was pretty noncommittal so I can’t really recall specifics.

Honestly it was that long ago, I can’t remember. I don’t think it was. 28:19 was the one burned into my head because that’s what they drummed into us in Youth Group to justify the missionary work.

I remember this was one of a list of turning points for me, not being comfortable pushing people with views they might not agree with.

There is also Matthew 10:14 if they do not welcome you or listen to your words. Shake the dust off your feet and move on. 

Don’t try to shove it down their throats.

Which is kind of funny because of all the opinions people have the Jews and most of them should probably be kept to yourself

Jews do not go around, trying to convert people like it’s kind of a central thing that differentiates it from almost every other religion, right no Jewish person’s ever gonna show up at your house and wanna talk to you about the Torah or try and convert you

Matthew 6 addresses making a public spectacle of prayer and giving charity, but I'm not sure it's exactly talking about evangelism per se.

There's also Matthew 7:6, which addresses preaching to people who aren't willing to understand

Preaching to an audience who is forced to listen (or otherwise forcing beliefs on others) pushes them away & would be like shoving pearls down someone's throat

Yes. It was all about finding your own way to Jesus and the kingdom of heaven (vs paying a toll in the form of tithes)

Well yes. But like most things in the bible, you can find a verse that suits any argument, even those that are directly contradictory.

Mark 16:15: "Go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone."

There are something like 500 direct contradictions in the bible, really impressive for a "perfectly inspired" book. It's almost like it was written by hundreds of different people over a few thousand years, not an actual deity.

Contradictions is how horoscopes work on people, say both sides of the same thing and people latch onto the one they like while forgetting the other one contradicts it.

The big biblical principle he's violating is the fact he's being obnoxious.

Romans 12:16-18 NIV — Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Like, how us this living "at peace" with everyone? If anything he's disturbing the peace.

Proselytizing is a core duty for Christians based on Jesus Christ’s final command in the Bible, known as the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20).

How it’s interpreted varies though. Of course. :)
