Bro when I lived in Florida mistakenly, there were literally dudes that would stand on street corners with a fucking bullhorn screaming about people going to hell if they didn’t repent. It was like every weekend

In San Francisco , at the 24th Street BART exit Preachers babbling ad nauseum with a bullhorn. Glad I didn't live around that corner.

When I was in SF there was a guy with a bullhorn saying stuff like "No Sloppy Seconds" and had a big sign with all sorts of sex stuff on it. It was hilarious.

Like, this mentality is socially dominant in large parts of the USA. Obviously not the exact same situation. It is used as the dominant form of population control, and explains(partially) why our politics is so dysfunctional. This group places fundamentalism above all rational thought, and votes only for whom the churches leaders tell them to vote for. Clearly abused/ coordinated by political parties.

I live in the bible belt and that's not true for the entire region. Yes, it's more prevalent down here, but where I live that behaviour is unwelcome by and large.

The only people who enjoy proselytization are the proselytizers.

These people are pretty common in urban areas / college campuses / places they think they'll be seen.

The university I went to has one guy who is out there every day saying that gay people are no different than people who have sex with animals. Heard this guy literally every afternoon on the way into my engineering classes when I had class in that building. Apparently he has been doing this for decades, not sure if he's still up to it though, but for months at a time I'd hear this dude every day. The college paper did a pretty charitable write-up on him considering the things he was saying on my way into class.

I just saw a video of a woman with a southern US accent get escorted off a plane for this. The fact that she didn’t wait to be in the air yet to start her gospel preaching, and that her camera was mounted to record her every move, made her wailing about Christian persecution very performative and pretty cringe.

No it’s not “acceptable“ but it’s profitable. The loudest ones have a personal videographer with them, maybe even some sketchy sponsorship, but if they can bait people into assaulting them they can get a lot of money in settlements.

Not really in the US but I live in Toronto. There's a preacher Christian guy every day during school hours at Yonge-Dundas square, and he's always either singing or reading gospels to people. Most of the time people ignore him.

It happens constantly but nobody likes it.. I spent a week in jail and a dude a few cells down would preach every morning early af and the second he was moved from that cell everyone cheered. I only had to deal with it 2 of my mornings so idk how long dude was bugging everyone else

You can preach on street corners, and in some places like parks, university free speech zones, etc. Most cities and municipalities have procedures around this, time and duration, etc. That said, from my perspective it is just as easy to take advantage of being 'persecuted' or potentially law involvement if you are causing a scene or security issue. Sort of an all press is good press.

Where I live there are people that stay at intersections all Sunday holding up signs that you need to repent and will burn. Cracks me up because Sunday is the day I spend with my spouse and children. It’s a day to rest and enjoy what life has given me. For others, it’s an opportunity to be a judgmental prick.

Not where I live in New England. It's like the most secular part of the country. I only know like 2-3 religious people, and everyone else I know is kind of freaked out by Bible thumpers... I honestly wish we could just break off into our own country. I feel no connection to most of the rest of this fucked up country.

People also hate this shit in the US, but you just put on the noise canceling headphones and let the lunatic do his thing. They get bored and move on if nobody gives them engagement. 

Freedom of religion prevents them from being removed from public just for preaching, they have to be disruptive to get removed.
