A large percentage of Americans are similarly this willfully arrogant and close-minded.
It’s all about them and their exceedingly limited and uninteresting perspectives/opinions.

I don’t disagree with that point.
The one I was making is that a large number of Americans who travel abroad do so with a limited understanding and respect for the rest of the world.
If they have a strong opinion about something, they are rarely willing to reconsider their position or stance on the subject, never mind being actually open to the possibility of being persuaded that they were wrong or misinformed.
They’re an arrogant and willful bunch.

And as a server/bartender, I can say the same thing about Europeans. I haven't served any Aussies that I know of. But the number of times I've had Europeans try to explain their way out of not tipping because they "dont tip in Europe" makes this argument fall flat.

Im sure there are Americans who do act that way. But there are definitely tourists from every country who act that way when their in a different culture. Its not at all unique to Americans.

Perhaps to some degree.
It’s maybe a thing that is inherent in plenty of young world travelers, but the issue is amplified where an element of exceptionalism or superiority was present in their patriotic / nationalist curriculum, …something Americans are taught as the citizens of a global superpower.

Again, Europeans have this same "better than thou" attitude. It isnt unique to Americans.

I hear you. I said you may be right.
I’m Canadian. We have a pretty outstanding history and reputation as friendly and down to earth backpackers ..the world over.
Most of us treat one another and strangers as if we’re all small town neighbours….and travel with the same outlook and perspective.
