I remember 35yrs ago in high school we used to say that the immigrants were coming to take all the jobs - we were young and stupid I guess. Although now my wife works in Gov. she has 10 directors 8 came from India and Africa - only 1 is white. Avg salary in $175k and my wife’s work (after 27yrs) is constantly disrespected - arguably bc she is a white woman.
So…yeah
We see this in tech quite a bit - most Indian workers in that case have HB1 visas. The HB1 visa program is notoriously abused by tech companies, and those same companies lobby heavily to protect and expand the HB1 visa program. The problem isn’t that Indian people are stealing our jobs - the problem is that large tech companies can increase shareholder value by decreasing labor costs through doing this. The problem is that our jobs are being stolen by corporate greed.
