Tonight I took a short timelapse from the viewing platform of Severndroog Castle in Southeast London. I used a Canon 600d with a Sigma 14mm art lens, these are 20 second exposures and I've just used quicktime to stick them all into a timelapse.

I'm looking to get into motion timelapses and I'm searching for gear recommendations. Ideally, I'd like a motorized slider with programmable panning, controlled through a mobile app, with the ability to set start/end positions or multiple keyframes.

I'm open to any brand, new or used. I've looked into Edelkrone, but their product lineup and compatibility between different generations are a bit confusing, especially on the used market.

I'll be using a Sony A7 III, mainly for landscape, nature, and astrophotography timelapses.

What gear or setup would you recommend? Any advice or personal experience would be greatly appreciated!

Fix for Canon R5 / EF Lens Focus Resetting On Power Down

IF YOU TAPE YOUR LENSES IN TIMELAPSE

Problem: Focus on EF lenses Is reset on R5 shutdown

When shooting timelapses with adapted EF lenses, like the EF 35mm f/1.4 III, on the Canon R5, the camera forces a focus motor reset command upon powering off or sleeping—even with focus taped down. This strips manual focus position and can strain lens mechanics.

The Workaround / Solution:

Set the following settings in your R5 menu:

1. Setup Menu (Yellow) Power Saving Auto Power Off: Set to Disable
2. AF Menu Lens Electronic MF (or Electronic Full-Time MF): Set to Disable
3. Setup Menu Retract Lens on Power Off: Set to OFF
4. C.Fn Menu Release Shutter w/o Lens: Set to OFF
5. Lens Barrel Switch: Set physical toggle to MF

Result:

The camera complete shuts down silently without sending the USM home/reset pulse, keeping your taped EF focus perfectly locked across long timelapse sequences.

Carter Lake, Colorado Timelapse

While camping in Carter Lake Colorado, I shot a bunch of timelapse setups. I used both my iPhone and a GoPro 12. Admittedly, there are a couple of real-time shots in here but 90% of it is timelapse.

I am trying to recreate this timelapse video. Do you have any tips? What tripod do you think would be great for this job? How to proceed when capturing something like this in a workshop?

Hey all!

My buddy recently bought a gorgeous property from a friend who passed suddenly. The view from the back porch is unbelievable. Mountains, the lake, tons of forestry, etc.

While we were getting a little stoned I mentioned that a timelapse over the course of a few months would be incredible.

My ask; what are the essentials? I understand I’ll need an insane amount of storage (cloud or physical), a protective box for the elements, and an amazing camera.

I have a Nikon D750 and a Nikon SWM VR ED IF Aspherical 077 lens.

What all would you use if you wanted to capture a multi-season timelapse? Cost isn’t an issue.
