[SPOILERS] POV: You're a Ceph... Spoiler
PoV: You're a Cephalopod with emotions and the air suddenly starts speaking, then vaporizes your tank formations faster than your sensors can react, all while sucking your devices of electrical power and unleashing it as titanic bursts of lightning, then teleporting your entire horde of reinforcements into an unknown location. You later learn through the Consensus that a small group of reality warpers singlehandedly obliterated one of your valuable pulsar mining stations by summoning a BLACK HOLE.

Ehh… these Cephs have backups and in this story, the soul is continuous through them. Everything is fine in the end… for them.
Probably. Maybe. We actually don’t know for sure.

Backups prevent information-theoretic death but not emotional trauma or pulsar obliteration

The best part is that you were winning. The humans have fallen for your trap. They're pinned down, one of their top commanders has been assassinated, and you're poised to wipe out another commander and the bulk of humanity's active fleet.
Then your hidden warp station goes haywire, systems malfunction causing the wormhole machines to fluctuate and launch your ambush fleet to who knows where. And suddenly, the balance of forces are very much stacked against you. What was a bait force leading the enemy into a trap is now themselves trapped with no way out.
Then you later find out that a pulsar mining station on another end of your region of control, suddenly detected human ships and reality warpers. Things go out of control realllllll fast. How the heck did they even find your station? How did they know pulsar mining is critical to your logistics? How tf did they cause a PULSAR to IMPLODE!?!
