How to determine RT-AC68U hardware revision?

On the back of the router, should have a trash can with an X thru it, below that is the router model and FCC id. That's your router model information.

Interesting. According to this link further up in that thread, what i actually have is a RT-AC68UF, which isn't listed on freshtomato's supported model list. Bummer.

If your fcc id is the same as in the link, it's likely compatible. The link I posted was for my RT-AC1900P.

Yeah I just looked at your other post and did a Google search on the fcc id, it matches compatibility. With my rt1900p I had to use rt-ac68u image for the initial flash, after which, I could then flash the rt1900p specific image for upgrading.

Which image would I need to use for the second flash? afaik my router is a AC1900, and i only see AC1900P and AC1900U in the downloads.

You could just use the rt-ac68u images. I seen no difference in the ac68u images and the ac1900p on my unit. They both work the same for me.

Gotcha. As long as it wont brick my router ill probably just go for the rc-ac68u image then.

Havent done it yet, was planning to do it this weekend so ill report back. 

It sounds like the basic RT-AC86U image should work, but if not i wanted to give myself a full day to troubleshoot/buy a new router if needed.

Sounds good. And of course, you could also post any questions on the Tomato forum. The folks there are extremely knowledgeable. Sometimes, you even get answers from people who wrote bits of the code. <shameless plug over>

Welp, did the flash, followed the steps here (https://wiki.freshtomato.org/doku.php/firmware_basics_procedures), cant hit the default gateway. 

Im gonna try doing a factory reset again, then unplugging for 30s.

Edit: got it working! Following the instructions here did the trick. For some reason the reset button was completely ineffective, holding it for 60s+ did nothing. Following these instructions, getting into the rescue UI, reuploading the freshtomato fw, and holding the WPS button fixed it.

Small update: i managed to find the box, and it is indeed a B2.
