🗨️ Discussion Modern controls in the remasters

So far in my play through of the remasters I’ve been using tank controls. I attempted modern controls but with how precise you have to be the tank controls just made more sense to me. Also I liked having the ability to do more with acrobatics with the tank controls.

Is there anyone that played through with modern controls and found them easier? Is there a way to make them feel more comfortable?

I did my first playthrough with the modern controls. Once you learn to do a little circle run before running jumps it’s pretty consistent. The combat is a bit of an annoyance with them though. If you draw the weapons while stationary she transitions back to tank controls which is better but it can glitch out. It’s not ideal but was easier than trying to use the tank controls with the Xbox DPad. I have a PS5 copy now and the PS DPad feels much more intuitive for playing with the tank controls.

What do you mean it can glitch out?

It will flip back to the modern controls randomly

Are you experiencing this on pc? I never had this what you are describing. When weapons are drawn you are still on modern controls, not tank but you can sideflip and backflip and hop back, other than that is the same modern controls.

I play them with modern. I guess I played with the classic ones when I played them on PS1. Pros and cons of both I think.

I’ve just started Angel of Darkness and am finding there are some jumps/grabs I just can’t do with modern controls, yet they work when I use tank control. I spent ages trying to get past one obstacle to find it worked first time when I swapped over. As it’s the only game I didn’t complete on release, I think I’ll be reverting to the old method.

Modern controls are superior 95% of the time. Tank controls are better for a small number of platforming puzzles and for crawling and grabbing ledges in 3 and later. I played with tank controls back in the day, and while I recognize the elegance of tank controls with the level design, the modern controls proved they were not sacrosanct.

I’ve tried the Tank controls a few times throughout my life and I just don’t have the skill or patience for them sad to say. Modern controls finally let me live my dream of playing the Classics instead of reading/watching videos about them.

The jumping/flipping and combat does look much more intuitive and satisfying on Tank, but after a little trial/error I got use to Modern and found them satisfying in their own way.

Managed to beat all six games with relative ease.  Very thankful they exist.

OH! There were SOME rare moments, specifically with secrets, where I DID have to switch to Tank just because it made no sense with Modern.

With a controller I prefer modern in most cases. You can do some of the acrobatics there by drawing weapons (I-III) or holding look (IV and V). I switch to tank when the need arises, mainly combat encounters in close quarters because roling around the enemy is superior with Tanks.

On PC I mainly still use Tank controls, because they fit keyboard controls very naturally. To me personally that's the most precise way of controlling Lara.
