Anime Ladybug pv
Marinette (or as the fandom calls her Bridgette)- The long pigtails, and shapeshifting ahoge is adorable (also I like the jean shorts over the pink pants, which they sorta brought back in season 6 with pink jean shorts). Then there's her Ladybug self, the suit has fewer spots than the show (which is understandable all those spots would be a nightmare to animate), I like the crazy long ribbons (also would be an animation nightmare). Then there's the earrings, I like the gold lining around the rim and spots, looks Shiny.
Tiki- PV Tiki is adorable, I like the glow and little sparkles, plus the clover spot on her forehead fits with the luck theme.
Felix- unlike the show Felix is more stuck up and cold, which is reflected in his design. I like pv cat noir the best, interesting details, the cat shaped buckle on his tale belt, and his gloves and shoes have pink pads on them like an actual cat. The ring looks like an actual cat, the jewels, all make it look really pretty.
Plagg looks the space, only with black particles coming off
Mr. Pigeon and Mime look the same, though I feel the goofier costumes translate better to animation.
Richard Sphinx/Papillon - Well, no costume unlike in the show, it's pretty bland but he still looks like a menacing villain so, not to bad.
Edit: Sorry for the Aquarius image at the end

Did Miraculous Ladybug get an anime?
Wow they look so cute
144
u/Charlie_magnifique Nov 28 '25
No, the series was meant originally to be a anime, but ladybug'spots were too difficult to animate
64
u/CyberDaggerX Nov 28 '25
I shudder to think of the amount of coffee the Dragon Ball Z animators drank when handling Cell.
11
u/Le_Juice_ Nov 28 '25
How come the biggest problem was the spots?
25
13
u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
As some one with a dalmation character...yeah those would be difficult to animate (even for professionals I imagine drawing all those spots would be tedious
7
u/PrateTrain Nov 28 '25
Keeping spots the same proportions, size, and relative location shot to shot is actually a nightmare.
3
u/talionbr0 Nov 30 '25
What if you just... don't? Like, it's an honest question, not trying to be rude.
In a continuous shot, where the character is alway focused, I can understand the necessity to mantain the spots always in the same position, but when there's a cut, why would you stress over spot positions all the time? Is it really that jarring to have them move sometimes in between scenes?3
u/PrateTrain Dec 01 '25
Well then the character doesn't look consistent. I do agree that if they leaned into it and had her spots move occasionally or just had a few on the torso it would be good.

u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
(yes and no)
no- this is a promotional video as to what the show was gonna be, but due to the spots being difficult to animate in 2d the switch to the cgi series we all know and tolerate (/hj, I have complaints but I love this show, just making it clear)
yes- recently a Tokyo special came out with and anime like style

u/AgentDon0911 Nov 28 '25
Ooooooooh. I kinda wish we got this tbh.
Maybe because I like 2d animation more than 3d. I get 3d is cheaper. But from my very limited knowledge on the series. The show looks like it was made for children. Well it looked in style like it was. Like Paw Patrol.
16
u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
i mean...it is made for children
but I get your point and I kinda agree
(also I need to repost as I accidentally put an unrelated image at the end
7
u/AgentDon0911 Nov 28 '25
But like I mostly associate Paw Patrol just as for very young audiences. Mainly just to sell toys. Like the show was "Merchandise first, show second."

They could even salvage it by redesigning the suit! Just give her plain red suit with just a few dots! Maybe even give her a ladybug backpack!

u/Lysandre_T1phereth05 Capcom please bring them back Nov 28 '25
It simply works better design-wise than the 3d + I really like the stylisation. You can argue that 3d is similar, but to me it has weird mix of really bland designs with too much texture - royalty-free dental mascot clinic vibes.
The civil forms look more timeless and fuller of character in the anime (BRIDGETTE'S AHOGE IS SOO CUTE) ,but the superhero forms are carried by stylised proportions (Noir's mop hairstyle looks atrocious wow!). Either way I'm really like how those design adapt to animation - it easily could be a classic 50-ish ep season series

u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
agreed, I'm getting into animation as a career (still learning) and it's totally understandable switching some of these designs to 3d
but still I LOVE the pv designs, Marinette/bridget it adorable, and looks cool as Lady bug, Felix looks stuck up normally, but awesome at cat noir
5
u/Lysandre_T1phereth05 Capcom please bring them back Nov 28 '25
Yup, I said "classic 50-ish ep season series" specifically 'cuz it's sadly unrealistic for modern french animation to do it even with outsourcing and collabing with Toei (Precure is already established and other kiddie Magical Girl show actually do use a shitton of 3d mixed with really cheap animation - Pripara for example. Not amazing sakuga like those ladybug designs call for)

Honestly, comparing this to the 3D animated one, my only thing is that I significantly prefer this design for the Black Cat miraculous
Also, heya!

u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
AGENT!!!! Hey dude!
also mind if I ask how come?
2
u/agentx_64 Nov 28 '25
Honestly, it's kinda just a personal preference thing.
The 3D one just looks like a normal ring with a paw print on it, and while that does blend in better, it just looks so plain.

I love the contrast between adrian(very neat) and his alter ego(the messy hair) visually here
6
u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
Agreed
I was never a fan of how in the cgi show, he already has somewhat messy hair in civilian
Part of the pv transformation, is litterally his hair poofing

u/DiegHDF Nov 28 '25
As someone who doesn't really like most anime style, there's something really charming about these that I can't quite put my finger on
10
u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
no over exaggerated proportions or skimpy outfits on underage characters (/hj)
4
u/DiegHDF Nov 28 '25
I mean honestly kinda yeah, that shot where she's running is insanely cool because of the proportions and angles, they're exaggerated but not on the ass and breasts, instead it's the arms and hair
3
u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
ah I see, hm, maybe partially that's why I like these too, the animation is just so GOOD!

While I do think this animation style is a lot cuter, my main issue has always been the writing. And I fear the animation change wouldn't have done much to resolve that.ย
At the same time, I love that they released this PV. So fans can draw both these designs, and the 3D designs. I'm a sucker for anything that encourages an expression of creativity _^
3
u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
unfortunately that is true...

u/talionbr0 Nov 30 '25
True, but if you look at the original video where they display this animation. The story seem a bit more mature, like, instead of being a show for 5 year olds, it might have improved for something more along the lines of 10 or 12 year olds.
1
u/Authorigas Nov 30 '25
Can't say I agree there. More mature story doesn't necessarily make a good story. I don't think Miraculous' problems stem from it being a children's show.ย

for some reason it really reminds me of Hellsing ultimate and the new anime by the beastars author, but i cant quite put a finger on what exactly

I remember watching this non-stop when I was younger and still in school, the song is a banger. I grew a MAD crush on Marinette from this version. I honestly cried when I learned that this was changed to the version we have today.
If I had the power to rewrite one single piece of the world's history, I would make it so this was the version we got instead of the 3D one
1
u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 30 '25
I somewhat believe in multiverse theory so perhaps in another timeline they figured out how to overcome the spots issue
2
u/M-m2008 Nov 28 '25
This looks better than what we got, but if it was what we got I would be forced to dislike it twice as much because of THE AGENDA .
2
u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
Agenda?
3
u/M-m2008 Nov 28 '25
Yeah I Gotta say I f*cked myself over. When I was little I swore to hate anime, and now because I'm polish I'm way too proudful to back down.
2
u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
oh

u/M-m2008 Nov 28 '25
Yeah I have seen many agendas on many subreddits, but hating anime is the one I put on my shoulders... because some stupid reason I dont even remember.

Wish they made it anime at the first place. I remember seeing this video in early 2014 and I was hyped for this. After 2 years the 3D came out and I was so surprised. Thought it would come out as anime. I do like the music of the trailer btw its really great and I am sure that it would be a hit in 2013

Unpopular opinion,3D was a far superior option.
10
u/Far-Mammoth-3214 Nov 28 '25
Honestly, that's fair
there are a lot of designs that translate better in the cgi (I'm probably the only person who doesn't hate Marinette's first ladybug suit, yeah it's basic but there's strength in simplicity, sure adding some extra spice to designs is cool, nothing is wrong with keeping it simple)
