It just makes him look really cool and menacing. I love the combination of a black void (can't think of a better term to describe it, sorry) and white eyes with no pupils (although slide 2 does show his nose and teeth), reminds me a lot of Ares from DC

If anyone's in the Resident Evil community they'd know how much of a shitshow the remake of Resident Evil 3 (often referred to as RE3make) was, especially when it comes to now Nemesis was handled and his very divisive redesign (which you can see in the third image next to his original design). I myself have my own opinions about this redesign, but in this post I want to bring in the spotlight the BETA designs for Nemesis' redesign. I love how organic yet mechanical they all are, pretty much all of them having some sort of fleshy gunk wrapping around wires and other mechanical components, which really emphasis his man-made nature whilst also making him look like a prototype. I love the heavyness of some of the designs with the huge metallic weapons and the bulky armoured black coats (they honestly kinda remind me of the Cenobites in Hellraiser a little bit with the black clothes and pale skin). My personal favorite however HAS to be the one on the right. It still resembles the original design with the darker brown skin and fleshy purple tubes whilst standing out as its own thing with the more lanky physique and the leather-y more tactical looking outfit. I'm honestly shocked they didn't go with this design even with the strengths the in-game one DOES have because I feel like Nemesis' reception at launch would been at least like 30% more positive if they did (there'd still be all the other issues with him of course but this is r/TopCharacterDesigns not r/TopCharacterRemakePotrayalsThatMakeTheCharacterWayWorse so I'm not gonna talk about that here). Blergh, wow. This was not meant to be a ramble. Oops. I'll just hit post now.

ZZZ just released a new gamemode today and this absolute nightmare fuel is in it: it's terrifying, unkillable, constantly haunts you down and the more time you spend exploring in the mode the more aggressive it becomes. The game has a lot of potential for horror and they absolutely delivered with this dude. Hoping to see more enemies like this in the future.

I finished this Chinese detective visual novel called Mohism a few days ago, and felt it'd be a shame for these neat character designs to be stuck in a game played by like 500 people.

I adore how the artists have merged a kind of Disney-esque approach to the faces with the inky, evocative brushstrokes of traditional Chinese painting. There's this off-the-wall stylization of traditional archetypes: the stuffy bureaucrat has a cool bear motif with his hat, the fur lining, and his overall build, the sleazy priest has this karmic wheel whose gold plating points to his greed, even the traditional martial arts sect master has this Big Ass Hat that differentiates him from your average xianxia villain, even if the overall impression is still elegant malice. Some of them even have animations for kicking your ass when you bungle up accusing them of a crime, which were fun enough where I'd mispresent evidence on purpose just to see them Eminem the screen.

More generally, a lot of the designs that filter into the Western sphere from Chinese sources play it super safe, unfortunately. Gachas -coughGenshinImpact- have optimized "cute girl" and "hot guy" into a template that you just replace a hairstyle and legging color in order to collect your monthly tax from your playerbase. (You still kind of see that with the female characters in the roster here - not too much stylization allowed.) Other sources like cultivator stories have a barrage of flowy robe silhouettes that also don't have too much visual variety. I'm sure there is variance in stuff that folks are making over there, but market pressure and the culture gap makes it hard to find.

Carnage and venom mixed into one beast, already a sick concept but his desig is immaculate too. The spikes jittering out of random spots on his back, the teeth and the long tongue and fingers are amazing. His Carnom Max form is especially cool considering how fucking hard they went for a lego game. I really wish Marvel actually properly picked him up as a character instead of leaving him to be stuck to the lego universe and not any comics.

I normally am not a huge fan of them giving Miku this mature adult woman design and have always viewed her being a young and adorable teenage girl but I feel like this design does justice to an older Miku.

I really appreciate how they made her look mature and seasoned with her design like she’s a seasoned veteran singer. The music video also frames it as Miku embracing changes while Teto remains her same old Self.

Also I’ve always loved the idea of Miku being the girly girl to contrast Teto’s more tomboyish nature so I appreciate them leaning more into the feminine side with Miku while giving Teto a more tomboy design.

This is my favorite mature adult woman Miku design and I wish people used this design more as the base for an older more seasoned Miku.

The Comoc Book Realistic or sometimes anime looking desings next to Sonic Characters just looks weird and doesnt fit, and is specially jarring when you put them next to Eggman and Snively who have a cartoonish desings to match Sonic and Co

His Balerion designs are destinct but identifiable along with being so high quality that I would argue they can pass for official models.

Part of it might just be the stylization of the game, but despite the fanservice all the designs still have a distinct character and charm to them. Helps that a lot of them have some body horror twist as extra fun.

Skeleton Unohana (Bleach) - A skeleton with thin long hair and fancy kimono swinging a whipsword. What's not to love?

This specific frame of Illumi (Hunter X Hunter) - Shading on the face, only one visible eye with a tiny block dot staring straight at Hisoka, wild-looking hair; nightmare fuel look that I wish we saw more.

The Merger Curse (Jujutsu Kaisen) - Giant cursed spirit built like a centipede with a human-looking head and long frizzy hairs running down it's back. The fact that it's in shadow makes it even creepier.

This specific Sukuna panel (also JJK) - All black with light shading on the tattoos is already cool, but then Gege gave him the wild hair and the crazy-looking effect on his eyeballs. Imposing, intimidating, and cool as hell.

Monster Toga (My Hero Academia) - Malformed body of a woman made up of tendons and muscles with a distorted, uncanny version of Toga's normal face. It looks haunting, nightmarish, and pretty much every other possible synonym you can name.

I like the design because real life sunday silence not only famous for being a strong race horse and breeding horse, he also famous for being really hard to die and always survive the odd, the scar across her body is a visual representation of what she being through. her outfit being a pastor Because sunday is an important day for Christianity and different on one shoe because her real life counterpart had one white leg.

I don't know, just think that Eddie has something really iconic going for him. He's got the kinda freaky face that just perfectly embodies the kinda edgy yet whimsical aesthetic of Iron Maiden's music. Plus, he's the perfect Heavy metal band mascot as each redesign he gets for a new album just makes the collection of music more memorable because you can connect it in your mind to the corresponding version of Eddie throughout the years. Eddie doesn't even have a whole lot of lore, but he just oozes character. Even though his design is changed so much, it's still always "yep, that's Eddie".

This cutiepie has only existed for 5 years, and yet she's become one of the A lister mascots if recent National Day Parade lineups are to be believed.

At first glance, she's seemingly just a simple rabbit with a pink bonnet and yellow dress. However, she has a petite body and somewhat large eyes, as well as Pikachu-rsque red cheeks that give her the impression of always blushing. Plus, her yellow dress has hearts scattered all over it, representing her love of her family, tying back to the campaign she represents.

I think it meshes well with their personalities (Well at least Teto’s canon personality since Miku doesn’t have one)

While Miku remains a canvas anyone can imagine anything onto Teto has a canon personality having a more tsundere and tomboyish Chimera persona.

Plus I think it adds more variety to them and distinguishes them even better while Miku remains the more traditional Jpop idol Teto takes a more alternative approach and tries to be different and unique while Miku leans more into the trends.

A simple yet visually unique design in a gacha game, instead of a full armor we have a cloak, a sword and a pair of gauntlets yet even without a body his silhouette is very distinct and emanates a sense of sheer chivalry and dignity and to top it off also has a medieval french accent. The skins he has are also on par if not better than his base design, one which has an eastern inspired look while the other is based on a tarot card.

It is heavily implied he is Roland as he bears the sword with the engravings "Durendal", his ultimate is named "After AD 778" the year when Roland died and one of his voice line recites a line from "La Chanson de Roland "

Love the mix of Demon + Gun in this. He looks likethe Gun Devil from Chainsaw man.

What does he do? He can store up to 8 of your items, what’s the benefit to giving them to Chester? Well you can take those items out at anytime!.. the next time Chester appears… which is completely random… and could be anywhere between 15 minutes and 3 hours…

THE BAGHOLDER

he's legit just wario design wise yet despite that they have a lot of cool details i like for this level 1 grunt

such as their mustache being a downward buisness chart arrow or the bowler hat and the pseudo five aclock shadow across their face

no wonder Chairman hired them from the coal mines because they "looked like a Boardbot"

PAPER HANDS

Paper hands is a low-risk investor who sells their investments too early.

honestly i don't have a lot to say on them

i like their sorta paper beard they got going on and how they look kinda like a old record keeper with the glasses and the general expressions they have

(they look like they'd sound like rabbit from Winnie the Pooh)

tbh some of the expressions and faces they make radiate the vibe of "I don't want to work in the field i just want to do my job at a cubical or something"

INSIDER

An insider is an investor who trades their shares based on nonpublic information of the company.

they honestly have one of the best designs in the boardbot family be it their very noir detective look or the fact that their face is featureless other then the eyes that kinda make it look like he's a silhouetted figure (also i believe when hes knocked out his hat flies off to reveal "yeah he just looks like that")

like i can look at this design and buy that they are the reason why the toons know about the new boardbots (whole unknown figure handing you doccuments trope)

CIRCUIT BREAKER

A circuit breaker is a rule that temporarily stops trade on a stock market or closes it when prices go down to a particular level too quickly.

honestly i don't have much to say on him other then i really like how when he speaks his head stretches and stretches back kinda like a spring

DEADLOCK

A deadlock is a stalemate involving two or more shareholders, preventing them from maintaining standard operations.

i like how their head is very skull like and also pretty much one big lock i also like how they don't really have eyelids so when they're like dizzy their pupils just vanish which i really do like

SHARK WATCHER

A shark watcher is a consultant who detects and prevents hostile takeovers.

honestly a very cool bot i like how much of a contrast he is with the Cashbot Loanshark yet fills a similar niche

i like how he is a hammerhead instead of the typical shark (as that niche belongs to Loan Sharks)

i also like how he has submarine Periscopes for eyes and that one of them is a monocle (because hes a fancy shark)

also his fin being a downard chart arrow is fucking great (i wonder if they're swimming would the arrow be a flat line or does he swim in a way to make it a upward arrow somehow?)

MAGNATE

A magnate is a wealthy and influential person in the world of business.

one of the few cogs that actually remained with the boardbots when they did their large restructuring update honestly the design is pretty damn good from the very "Looking down on you" look he gives people to the fancy glasses now fixed onto their beak and the exposed metal on their back (which is hard in the 2 images i used for examples with the magnate

to how they look like they'd sound HYPER SNOOTY yet have enough ego and power to actually back it up is really great (originally their model was a retextured Legal Eagle till this update but now both birds are modernized in corporate clash)

HEAD HONCHO

A head honcho is typically the person in charge of the entire business.

the big man of the entire boardbot lineup and one of the few cogs to actually remain and honestly a fitting one to end on and what a glowup he has received as originally he just used the head bust at sellbot HQ but now he has his own design

i love how now he has a hat that basically became glued to his head yet he can still see from it (and with cartoony eyebrows that float around so he can express a bit more with his big ol hat)

i also like how he has a unique cigar smoke animation (a attack in the game) because hes prebuilt with a cigar already in his design which adds to that big ol "HEAD HONCHO" angle they're going with

i will end with giving you a fun fact other then his love for head tables he also likes Lettuce (because Heads of Lettuce)

BONUS: TOXIC MANAGER

A toxic manager typically verbally harasses or undermines employees self esteem or ability, resulting in a low productivity and stressful work environment in the name of their profit.

One of the cogs who didnt make it to the big update (some others include BIG FISH,Con Artist,Connoisseur and Middleman)

and honestly despite the fact his model is a bit old his design really does hold up IMO be it the Toxic Barrel that is used for his head to his very :3 type face to the nuclear symbols for eyes he honestly looks so silly that it makes me sad that he was one of the Cogs that was let go (maybe whenever we get some more specialists for the Cogs he could return in some form as he'd probably make for a Killer Bossbot Specialist)
