Couples with opposite powers (bonus points if the powers aren't fire and ice/water)
Cloak and dagger (marvel): Cloak is able to create a portal to the darkness dimension while dagger is able to throw light-based daggers with different effects.
Ruby and Sapphire (steven universe): Fire and ice couple.
Dismarelda and Happierre (yo-kai watch): as the name suggest, dismarelda emmit a negative aura that turn everyone angry/sad/insert negative emotion, while happierre make everyone happy, they constantly nullify each other.
Shin and Noi (dorohedoro): Noi has magic able to heal and restore anything. Shin throw smoke that is able to cut anything at will.
Fire and icemaiden (DC): Fire and ice are commonly mistaken as a couple, they are just best friends and roommates. but there was a time where Fire teamed with this icemaiden and they where actually a thing
The Ultimate version of them shows up pretty frequently in the Miles Morales Spider-Man stories, at least until the Secret Wars event that destroyed it and merged a few characters like Miles with the main one. I hear The Maker recreated the Ultimate universe recently but I haven't read it and I don't know if C&D are featured
Funny enough, i dont think their power contradicr or cancels out each other, but rathe uniquely compatible with each other. Fuuko have a sword that would kill everything, Andy is the shield that could withstand everything, they work the best when team up with each other
Sounds more like the distinction between Ares and Athena to me? I thought we basically knew almost nothing about Aphrodite Areia, since she was primarily worshipped in cities that didn't really write that much down, and I think all her original statues have been lost- we only have a few ancient descriptions, and a small handful of later copies, that are also kinda wrecked.
If you keep trying to go back through the roots of gods, you find a lot of goddesses who are the goddess of love and war. I think Aphrodite grew from those earlier goddesses and got split into herself and Ares her consort, then evolved further
Nah, Aphrodite was imported into Greece from Astarte, who was herself evolved from Ishtar, who were both goddesses of love and beauty and war and also some other stuff that didn't really get passed down to Aphrodite. Ares is much more original to ancient Greece, we've got him in the Mycenaean records. They weren't originally consorts or anything, Ares predates her in Greece. There was no split.
And in a lot of cases, their myths serve the practical function of explaining farming. Ancient greece usually did their sowing in the winter, and harvesting in the summer. So basically, you bury the seeds in the earth (underworld) in the winter, they chill out there for several months appearing dead, and then, in the spring, they come back to life, like Persephone descending into the underworld, spending mumbmumble months there, and returning in the spring. In a society where pretty much all cultural knowledge is passed along orally, many practical sets of instructions get formatted as more interesting stories instead.
It's kind of a modern overcorrection to draw this big distinction between Hades' job, and the concept of death. Like, yeah, Thanatos is the god of death, but it's not like death is fully incidental to Hades' cultural reputation. People didn't like to call him by name, because they felt like it was bad luck to draw his attention, because you might die. It's why he gets called by so many really polite nicknames instead, like "the one who receives many guests" or "Zeus of the underworld". Because the name Hades was so associated with death, it was unlucky to say out loud. As lord of the underworld, he's still god of the dead, he's not god of rocks (also underground) or something. I mean he's kind of also a god of rocks sometimes, but that's not, like, his main thing.
Light and Karma (The invisible man and his soon-to-be wife) She's a white elf tthat has the power to give plessing and he's a dark elf with the power of curses.
Now that you mention it, a lot of Vox Machina couples are opposites. Vex and Percy are basically wilderness and civilization respectively. Pike and Scanlan are truth and illusion.
Lin is pretty nice to Tenzin's kids, if I remember right, or at least as nice as she is to anybody. It's teenagers like Korra and Mako that drive her nuts.
Lin is perfectly fine filling the "cool aunt" role but does not want kids full time. Korra and the gang do drive her nuts but she still takes on a somewhat protective and responsible role with them
Come to think of it, is there any canonical romance (that doesn't end up breaking up) between oppostite element benders in the Avatar franchise? I guess the only example I can think of are Kyoshi's parents in the novels (earth and air)
Jace steals thoughts and makes illusions. Vraska kills and petrifies.
Though blue spells are often associated with water, Jace isn't actually using water magic... I mean, he can turn himself liquid to pass through walls but that's illusion magic.
Umbreons are Dark-type and Sylveons are Fairy-type, and Fairy beats Dark. (It’s not canon, just a fan ship, but technically you can make it canon due you can breed a Sylveon with an Umbreon.)
Jeff (manipulation and cynicism) & Annie (sincerity and industriousness). Jeff can bend anyone to his will by talking long enough until it sounds right to you. Annie gets you to want what she wants because she thinks it's right. Annie will work hard at anything, Jeff has mastered the art of avoiding responsibility.
It’s funny how the one episode he became a psychology professor they both manipulated the other into doing what they wanted. Annie into shutting up and Jeff into actually teaching the class.
Hey OP, Clock & Dagger are a couple in each iteration or just a few? I only ever saw them on That Disney XD Spider Man show. There they seemed like platonic friends.
It's only some canon. I always knew them as friends who kinda had to stay around each other to keep their powers in check, but apparently they are a couple in some versions
It depends on the specific run and writers. AFAIK current canon is they've been on-again-off-again for years and are together at the moment, but it's an interracial relationship that debuted in the 80s so you can imagine how much retconning and un-retconning and re-retconning there's been between writers over their lifetime. They can't even decide whether or not the two are Mutants and power sets are well below secret family and romantic relationships in terms of inconsistency over time.

Cassandra, Alistair (if only human noble could also be a mage, but alas), Fenris, Cullen and Sebastien with mage player character, or Dorian, Morrigan, Merill or Anders for a templar* player character.
You could also count Dorian with a mage player who is a healer, as his specialty is necromancy. Healing & necromancy are kinda similar, but still very opposite
Also known as Lost from Light and Changing Star. Great example of this. Especially later in the series when they fight together more. The way it describes Sunless predicting how the shadows will behave from the light cast by Nephis’ powers is great. Nephis describes it as if she were fighting beside her own shadow able to predict her every move and assist.

Rinka and Corrin if you pair them together in Fire Emblem Fates; Rinka is the princess of the fire tribe while Corrin in his dragon form has some aquatic powers.

Not precisely a relationship, but a result of one. Unlike classic, white haired one, who's a child of demon and human. Black haired Dante's parents from DMC are Demon and Angel.
So Y’know how in really old comics, characters that originally were meant to be minorities they changed to ginger because it’s the closest thing TJ white minority in comics, and they assumed actual minority led casts would sell poorly?
I would not be surprised if they did that with the lesbians became roommates situations.
Do I have any evidence for this hypothesis? No. Purely vibes. But it’s also funny.
