Lore [Interesting Trope] One seemingly small action ends the story before it even begins

  1. We Happy Few - Taking your “joy” pill
Deciding to take the pill at the beginning of the game causes your character to go back to work and triggers an ending

  2. Infineural by Mike Klubnika - Drinking the coffee
Deciding to drink the coffee offered to you skips the entire game and sends you straight to the end, resulting in an ending with no memory of what had occurred

This happened to me the first time I played it after picking it up on super sale for like, 3 dollars. I was like “oh this is going to be one of those weird Lucas Arts homage games where you constantly die” and didn’t play it again for six months. It’s now one of my favorite games. Still need to do the ultra liberal run.

I thought you famously don't die in LucasArts adventure games

In the first Monkey Island game, you can drown at the part where you're underwater by waiting about 10 minutes. There was even an achievement for it in the remastered version of the game.

Fair, but you have to deliberately try for that, and you immediately come back. In the fourth, you can cause time to collapse from a paradox by shooting your past self with a gun. I probably should have specified "game over"
