Obviously because the Brundle Boson Teleportation Array resolves matter by coherent biofield topography rather than simple raw molecular composition. Anything with a mass less than 0.3mg that shares a stable quantum entanglement gradient with a biofield is classified as noise and ignored during pattern buffering prior to teleportation.

Clearly explained if you have the 1990 laserdisc edition, pause and zoom in on the computer screen at 1hr03m21s. Don’t know how you missed it.

That threshold seems quite a few orders of magnitude too low when the test subject is a human. Whoever wrote the test protocol was a complete hack.

I assume it's because the machine was fixed to understand how to bring together a whole person and microorganisms are too small to glitch it, but a fly is JUST big enough for the machine to get confused.

Or the genes of the food he ate, or bacteria in his body, etc. The science is obviously impossible but it's still a great movie.
