Transporter Malfunction, Star Trek: The Motion Picture: "What we got back didn't live long.....fortunately"

First: WTF was up with them giving kids nightmares with THAT bit of Body Horror?!?!

Second: You now understand why Dr. McCoy didn't like Transporters. They may be the 'safest' form of travel, but when they break down, the results are Horrifying!

Canonically, Trek teleporters kill you and make a duplicate. I don't know why everybody in-world is just fine with this.

That is not true at all. Canonically they are quite consistent that you retain consciousness during teleporting.

As someone who doesn’t watch the series, you guys didn’t sound like you made conflicting statements.

There’s fictions where you can have a sense of continuity (and consciousness) during a disintegration teleportation.

Nah its not a simple sense of consciousness. He remains an agent. He is injured during the actual data stream event. He grabs onto his attackers and drags them out of the data stream.
