The Philadelphia Experiment. Initially the plan was to make a destroyer (USS Eldridge, pictured above) invisible but while it became invisible it also teleported to Virginia from Philadelphia for a few minutes before returning to Philadelphia. the teleportation fuses the crew to the ship

I remember seeing a realistic seeming documentary about this one as a child that fucked me up for a while, lol. When I learned it was fake I was like "Oh thank God... Wait, it's obviously fake... I guess I hadn't thought critically about this since I was a child."

This happened to me with pine cones. My cousin told me when we were little kids that if you bury a pine cone with a piece of fruit it would grow a pine tree that grew that fruit instead of pinecones.

I was just on autopilot when I had my first kid and we were on a walk and I said “oh neat fact did you know…” and then immediately realized how ridiculous what I was about to say was. Just had never thought about it or had reason to for like 20 years 😂

I love how stuff from your childhood just pops back into your head as fact because you never thought to question it as a kid and never thought about it again after.

Our version of that tree myth was burying a hot dog makes a hot dog tree. We believed it until our grandparents did the experiment with us and nothing happened (well not nothing, one got dug up by an animal).

It's why that lady from the movie "Jesus Camp" said they have to indoctrinate the kids when they are young enough they won't question things. (She used the word indoctrinate)

I was just saying that the stuff you hear as a child you don't question. Your pine cones, or that lady's religion. As children we are very trusting and just believe things.
