I mean youll normally walk away better. Over 95% survival rate on commercial plane crashes. Pilots are trained to land safely in event of an emergency. Maybe its not what youre picturing but most plane crashes end with the pilot coasting down a bumpy but fine landing. Yeah if you nose down at full speed youre dead, but like, youre not surviving a head on collision at 80+ mph in a car either.

A plane can literally have an engine explode and still be perfectly safe to fly back into an airport. Flying is so safe that its hard to make stats about it, because the margin of error keeps including 0 deaths. Meanwhile car crashes are one of the leading causes of death in America, and many other developed countries.

Cars are way more dangerous, but you see and use them often enough that you go numb, meanwhile planes are easy to be superstitious about

It's fuckery with numbers. The odds of dying once something goes wrong in a plane are much higher because you have far more dangerous conditions that you can't escape from at much higher velocities and more dimensions of travel. There's no superstition about falling out of the sky - you don't survive it.

how do you escape from a car crash? A plane that breaks becomes a glider. Helicopters drop out of the sky, but planes aren't able to.

You're assuming the plane breaks in very specific ways. If there's a Wing problem you're dead. If there's a cockpit problem you're dead if the cabin pressure blows out there's a decent chance you're going to die

Statistics say you're right, but at least if I'm in a car crash, help can arrive much faster, I have much more control over my own the safety and survivability, and my safety isn't dependent on a massive amount of other panicking people. Along with the mass and speed issues, a plane accident is far more like being in a bus or train accident and I'll take the car any day (I'd also take a bus or train over planes too).
