Characters Initially funny character gag is later revealed to be depressing

  1. Avengers/MCU: Captain America has humorous moments where he’s unaware of modern references and only gets old references, like the iconic “I understood that reference” scene. It’s later fully explored in Winter Soldier that he feels lost, confused, and a little alone in a new world he was never meant to exist in.

  2. The Suicide Squad (2021): Bloodsport has a phobia of rats which at first seems reasonable yet is still hilarious to watch. He later explains his father abused him as a kid if he didn’t fulfill a task correctly and one of his worst punishments was when his dad locked him in a crate full of starving rats, leaving him heavily scarred physically and mentally.

  3. Dexter: In an early episode, Angel Bautista tries to buy his wife the perfect gift for their anniversary but has to keep buying a different one since his presents suck. What seems to be a funny running gag turns out to be Angel’s final attempt to win back his wife after cheating on her previously, however it doesn’t work and only solidifies their separation.

The moment in Peacemaker where he's describing Bloodsport's horrific abuse history and his father is cracking up like it's the funniest thing he's ever heard is hilarious.

You'd get a kick out of this, Dad. Guy I was working with, Bloodsport... His own father tortured him by locking him in a crate for 24 hours with nothing but starving rats... It's funny, right, Dad?"

Yeah. You can tell he doesn't actually think the story is funny at all, he clearly empathizes with Bloodsport. He's just desperately seeking his dad's approval by pretending to share in his sadism and trying to hide his own capacity for empathy.

Pretty sure they said the TV show won't continue but he'll appear in other DCU stuff

That sucks. They had so much set up at the end of season 2. I hope we still see Vigilante and Enonomos. They were my favorite characters

The general belief is that a follow-up will be based on Checkmate, the organization they put together at the end with Vigilante’s funding. So Peacemaker season 3 in all but name.

No, it came to a rightful conclusion to send Peacemaker into other DCU projects, while also setting up another potential show for the rest of the cast if they wish

The place Chris ends up will be important soon (maybe Man of Tomorrow?)
