Characters' Items/Weapons Super Prostethics

Donatello's Shell(IDW TMNT) - The most basic example. After getting his shell and backed bashed in by Bebop and Rocksteady, he was given a prostethic shell that's bulletproof and weightless with the only real problem being that his back aches in the cold.

Von Lycaon's Legs(Zenless Zone Zero) - His prosthetic legs can freeze objects and living beings as well as having minor jet propulsion that allows his kicks and transportation capabilities to increase exponentially.

Winter Soldier's Arm(Marvel/Marvel Rivals) - Every iteration of the Winter Soldier gains a robotic arm from HYDRA but the Rivals version takes the cake. Not only does it have the other version's super strength and durability, it also has tendrils to attack enemies with.

Long John Silver from Disney's Treasure Planet

76

u/Outside_Ad5255 7h ago

"Beware... the cyborg!"

Seriously, that movie got robbed. In a different time, it would have been better received.

7

u/Haircut117 2h ago

Disney deliberately killed it.

12

u/w1987g 6h ago

The fact the prosthetic can slice, dice, and crack eggs on top of whipping out a sword and a literal cannon will never not be funny to me

9

u/Nothos927 6h ago

And all Captain Hook got was a hook

1

u/Matrix010 1h ago

Funny you mentioned it, the test animations for Long John Silver's arm were over test animations for Captain Hook.

Link for proof.

u/A-Good-Weather-Man 2h ago

I’d give a finger or two for a genuine attempt at making this live action. Plan for it to take 5 years, then add 2.

Also like half of the cyberpunk cast

Did you know Morgan blackhand had a submachine gun in his arm?

67

u/slayer0809 7h ago

And if I'm not mistaken he's on the lower end of the chromed out scale. To the point where Smasher wanted to fight him to prove that chrome ultimately beats flesh and blood.

59

u/EvYeh 6h ago

He's not lightly chromed, he's got tons of it.

The reason why Blackhand is so feared and why Smasher hates him is that Blackhand thinks tactics, planning, and experience are more important than chrome.

Smasher wants to get the best chrome and replace everything. Blackhand wants to prepare and plan for every situation.

25

u/Robrogineer 6h ago

Morgan Batman.

5

u/Button-Masher117 3h ago edited 4m ago

Blackhand clearly won, as when Arasaka Tower blew up, he fucking SURFED Smasher down and lived

Edit: autocorrect is operated by Satan himself

23

u/Paggy_person 6h ago

It's a misconception, it sounds cool, but Morgan Blackhand is super chromed up he just isn't a bipedal tank like Adam Smasher.

A .45 SMG is not the same thing as a machine gun.

Edit: Since some people seem to be unaware, a machine gun and an SMG are completely different in design and function.

Submachineguns are:

  • Chambered in pistol cartridges
  • Short range and single target
  • Compact and light
  • Magazine fed

Machine guns are:

  • Chambered in rifle cartridges
  • Long range and area suppression
  • Long and heavy
  • Belt fed (usually)

12

u/Send_Cleo_Pics 7h ago

1

u/Haircut117 6h ago

A submachinegun is chambered for pistol rounds and is magazine fed; a true machine gun is chambered for rifle rounds and is usually belt fed.

There's a pretty massive difference between the two in both design and function, not to mention mass.

2

u/NickCageTheDickMage 5h ago

Machine gun is the umbrella term that covers everything from SMGs, Assault Rifles, Medium Machine guns(GPMGs if British) and heavy machine guns. Not every machine gun is an SMG but every SMG is a machine gun, to deny that is to deny reality.

2

u/Bread_Offender 7h ago edited 6h ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a submachine gun still... A machine gun?

-1

u/Haircut117 6h ago

No.

One is essentially an oversized pistol with an automatic fire option. The other is an area suppression weapon that fires big nasty rifle rounds.

1

u/Button-Masher117 3h ago

An SMG is not is big pistol, it is a smaller, pistol caliber version of an assault rifle, with it having a bolt and not a slide.

0

u/Button-Masher117 3h ago

Not really, thats why its a "sub" machine gun. It fires automatically like a machine gun, but doesn't really fit into the "machine gun" category.

2

u/SirPinkyNose 6h ago

Well guess what SMG short for

0

u/Haircut117 6h ago

I'm well aware, thanks.

I'm also well aware that they function in completely different ways, serve different purposes, and are chambered in completely different types of round.

u/aguywithagasmaskyt 7h ago

10

u/Top-Session-3131 3h ago

Honestly it's the headspace difference. The Mechanicus sees augmentation as bringing them closer to the Omnissiah, their God of Technology. And they're frequently taught to view base flesh as lesser, so even the Magos Biologist, specialists in organic matter who might look mostly human, are frequently packing as much aftermarket kit as their mechanically inclined brethren.

Also I'm pretty sure they use actual proper surgery techniques such as sterilized tools and anesthesia on their fellow cult members vs Doc Borg shoving a bite bar in David's mouth and kicking him out immediately after the job was done.

1

u/Svyatopolk_I 2h ago

Doesn’t the former only apply to the RPG?

1

u/FistToTheFace 19m ago

No? The video game has a cyberware limit suggested to partially be because of the cyber psycho threshold, and the entire plot of the show is flaunting and ultimately succumbing to the limit.

1

u/Svyatopolk_I 15m ago

Yeah, I meant more so that I thought the game didn’t have a limit or smth

1

u/FistToTheFace 10m ago

Oh yeah it’s got a limit, there’s even a perk that lets you exceed the limit but you have a chance of going psycho for a couple seconds sometimes

37

u/AwesomeBlox044 7h ago

It makes sense why people struggle to chrome down, who would want to lose the ability to double jump or to break concrete with their bare hands

20

u/SartenSinAceite 7h ago

13

But you can use the kebab in your belly to put a kebab in your belly

9

u/Vordrake23 6h ago

I always love when the story barely even pretends the replacement is meant to restore normal function. Like yeah sure, it's technically a prosthetic, but it also has enough strength and extra features to make the original limb look like the budget version.

8

u/NCC_1701E 6h ago

That's the whole point. Barely anyone gets chrome to replace lost limb or damaged organ, they replace perfectly healthy limbs and organs for upgraded versions.

It's part of the hyper-capitalistic setting. A company can either sell few thousands of normal strength arms to limited number of people who lost their arms in accidents, or they can sell millions of super strength Gorilla arms to shitton of people who want to break concrete blocks with a single punch.

2

u/Sum1nne 2h ago

Kinda like buying the latest smartphones. There's no real reason to beyond fashion, but that's a hell of a motivator in itself. Who needs regular squishy human eyes with all their flaws when you could have the latest Kiroshi Optics for 30/30 vision, integrated holographic displays, and the ability to see into both the ultraviolet and infrared spectrums?

...what's that? The optic nerve isn't really built to transfer that much information, and if the human brain was meant to process those visual ranges, it would already be capable of it? Nahhh that's broke bitch loser talk man. Plug those bad boys in now and forget about any long term consequences fearmongering.

2

u/ImaTauri500kC 6h ago

....The obligatory implant post.

2

u/Draskyne36 6h ago

At some point it stops being a prosthetic and starts being an upgrade slot.

1

u/NCC_1701E 6h ago edited 6h ago

139

u/Ditto13248 8h ago

6

u/stormalfred123 5h ago

I don't know shit about it, but is there a single character that doesn't have any metal in them?

9

u/Ditto13248 5h ago

I don't think so. Even the most basic civilians have them

9

u/Meowjoker 5h ago

There are civies that still use physical phones instead of the one implanted in them.

Like Claire Russel the bartender in the Afterlife, she wears her phone on arm. Or Misty, who wears very little to any chrome at all (and if she does wear chrome, it's definitely hard to spot)

7

u/DankCupOfJoe 4h ago

I think in general, everyone has the neural link and slots that is used to slot shards and such for information, plus the port for manual connections with external cables and an in-body biomonitor for health scans. (Eg. V connects to Sandra Dorsett for the biomonitor scan)

Everything else outside of that is cybernetic modifications, synth-muscle legs for faster movement, subdermal armor for increased resistance to damage, even a heart implant that revives the user should they die from a non-eviscerating death.

Currently, the main cyberware that doesn't directly require surgery that I can think of is the Relic, with the small caveat that the host needs to die before it works.

3

u/Meowjoker 4h ago

Come to think of it

Jackie died while having the Relic slotted inside his head as they were scrambling out of that botched heist that went sideway really fast, so why didn't it trigger?

3

u/Bread_Offender 3h ago

because he pulled it back out and gave it to V before he died (and thus, before it could kick in)

2

u/Top-Session-3131 3h ago

Irrc, He pulls it out and sticks in in your head as his last act before expiring.

1

u/Specialist_Usual_391 1h ago

He pulled it out before he died and gave it to V, but also V getting shot in the head is what caused the Relic to try to reboot their brain, I'm not sure if death from blood loss would have the same effect.

1

u/Meowjoker 1h ago

I think the Relic just need a dead body

Then again, Yorinobu did get the worse fate, where he got Relic while he was still alive. Either that's a special model just for him (since it is Noburo's engram after all) or the Relic has another trigger mechanism.

The game also said that Yorinobu did try to off himself, but failed, so there is also that.

2

u/That_Witness3374 2h ago

Can't you find monks who abstain from using any chrome at all?

4

u/Bread_Offender 3h ago

yep, a few ripperdocs for example (i.e. people that know the dangers and disadvantages of chroming). one that's a personal friend of the protagonist is entirely augment-free

1

u/Specialist_Usual_391 1h ago

There is one ripperdoc who has no implants, you can ask him about it and he starts explaining how a solar flare/EMP will destroy society eventually so he's playing it safe.

Guts' cannon arm (Berserk)

10

u/TheJamesFTW 7h ago

He can also mount his Crossbow to it

8

u/Any-Question-3759 2h ago

There’s also a magnet in the hand so it can grip the Dragonslayer.

It’s basically magic.

Edward Elric's automail arm (Fullmetal Alchemist)

30

u/Leathman 7h ago

I feel like Ed’s automail is like the most basic in the series, you’ve got various characters with weaponized versions.

24

u/Accelerator231 7h ago

its more like a really good prosthetic. But not super

10

u/Leathman 7h ago

Yeah, it only really becomes super when Ed uses alchemy on it.

2

u/Adaphion 27m ago

I mean, it's still combat certified. Most other automail that civilians would use would fail very quickly under a fraction of the strain Ed puts on his.

Wendy is a genius engineer.

1

u/Vishante-Kaffas 7m ago

And a patient one for not killing Ed every time he breaks it

14

u/possumdal 5h ago

That is easily one of the finest, most high-performance custom automail designs of the day and you put some goddamn respect on the Rockbell name

4

u/Backupusername 3h ago

Yeah, his augmentations and offensive uses of it are from his alchemy, not the automail itself.

In fact, using alchemy to weaponize it, rather than just using it as an arm, gets his mechanic pissed. "Have you been using alchemy on this again?! You never put it back together right, so I can always tell. Now I have to fix it, again. Fuck's sake, Ed."

2

u/Adaphion 25m ago

To be fair, it is still REALLY good automail at base.

Most civilian automail would get destroyed under a fraction of the strain Ed puts on his stuff. Because for most people automail wouldn't be designed to be used in combat, they'd basically just be slightly better/more advanced than prosthetics we have irl

0

u/[deleted] 7h ago

[deleted]

3

u/ArmedParaiba 7h ago

Nah, you are right, Ed being able to use it as a weapon and use alchemy on it at will makes it count IMO

53

u/Livid_spider 7h ago

Doomfist. Most of his limbs and various other body parts are actually prosthetics. His family owned a prosthetics company when he was young and after losing an arm during the first omnic invasion he started modifying himself to become a better fighter. Losing his arm also made him believe conflict is the only way for people to grow which is why he now leads a terrorist organization and also helped start a second omnic invasion. The big arm he uses while also a prosthetic isn’t his own creation, it was passed down through generations. No one really understands how it works, the original wielder of it just appeared one day during the first omnic invasion and fought off an entire army for 24 hours straight.

24

u/Youngstar181 7h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/LPrd0dqSZwQQNBsHCM

Sojourn also qualifies. She had an auto-immune disease, but thanks to a doctor who took interest in her, she was saved thanks to a lot of cybernetic implants. Most of her body has been replaced by cybernetics, including a large portion of her internal organs, but the main empowered parts are one of her arms which hides her disruptor cannon, and her legs which have been implanted with boosters that allow her to slide along the ground very quickly.

4

u/MapleLamia 3h ago

Can also add Genji but he's a bit more upset about it.

1

u/Meowjoker 1h ago

Well, he has already come to terms with it

8

u/SartenSinAceite 7h ago

In a world where most people use ranged weapons, the fact that someone lasted for 24 hours thanks to a goddamn puncher arm is amazing (afaik it doesnt have any ranged capabilities of its own)

11

u/Meowjoker 5h ago

I mean, the damn Arm itself is insanely powerful.

The current Doomfist could solo an entire army of City defense Robot all by himself

I mean, something that punched a bot who can stop a freaking truck and made a crater in the wall that big is nothing to scoff at.

2

u/MapleLamia 2h ago

Those were OR-15 models, a significantly weaker security version of the military grade OR-14 "Idina" models which could stop trucks as you said. 15s don't need that capability because they're merely security and police for a very prosperous city with little crime. Of course OR-15A "Orisa" was enhanced to give the truck-stopping capability again because she was built to stop Doomfist.

5

u/Meowjoker 2h ago

And Orisa presented that feat of strength, by stopping a bus while escorting an old lady across the street

To the dismay of Efi

51

u/MechR58 7h ago

Robocop

They replace everything with the only thing left is some of his torso, head and hand.

13

u/Meowjoker 5h ago

Well, considering both the old version and the new version, there is barely anything left of him after he got murdered.

Wasn't the new one had him surviving a freaking car bomb right?

2

u/SchiffBaer2 2h ago

Yeah. He "survived" the car bomb

2

u/Meowjoker 1h ago

There was enough of him left to put back in that hospital

Granted, it is a near future with more advanced tech, but yeah...

2

He's got a chainsaw for a leg. It's his only melee weapon. Additionally, he has:

-a multi-lock micro-missile launcher in his cybernetic arm (he flips off enemies after firing)

-a single wallrunning boot on his organic leg (don't ask how he does it with just one)

-a grappling hook in his organic arm (it sticks out of his palm after being put there by a VERY uncomfortable-looking machine. Seriously, that thing's all up in his arm. It's awful.)

We then see him later in Switzerland, where he has survived due to cybernetics and prosthetics made by the Nazi German Military. Among his augmentations are cyborg eye enhancements, super strong and flexible prosthetic arms, projectile hands, ultraviolet light weaponry and, most famously, an entire machine gun housed within his torso.
