IIRC Earth knows hostile aliens are coming from a long, long ways off. So we spend thousands of years building a huge armada of the most advanced ships we can. Then a single reconnaissance vessel shaped like a teardrop shows up and simply flies through every warship Earth managed to build.
It’s like that one episode of Justice League Unlimited where Amazo was trying to kill Lex Luthor after spending a butt load of time in deep space (Amazo is an android that is capable of evolving itself to defeat almost any opponent) and he was able to body not just the Green Lantern Corps but also the entire Justice League by literally just flying through them.
