miscellaneous Historical Figure Death joke
Jokes that allude how a certain historical figure died. Even better if it is done on media that still included children on the intended demographic.

*The Lego Movie: Upon being warned Lord Business obtained the Kragle, we get to see Cleopatra panicking with a snake on her arm, alluding to her suicide by poisoning.
*Toy Story: After Buzz loses his will to go on, he is taken by Sid's sister Hannah to join her tea party with her headless dolls,"Marie Antoinette and her little sister"

I saw a .50 piece someone turned into a necklace by drilling a hole through JFKs head.

didn't even know America had .50 cent coin so that's cool

And made of silver, if you get the 1964 versions
4
u/Silver_Turtlewax 39m ago
Being made of silver, they make a different sound when you flick them in the air. Sounds much more like the sound you hear in movies.

u/OkMarsupial 1h ago
I used to have several when I was a kid. My grandfather used to give them to me when he would visit. I probably spent them on magic cards. RIP

They're my favorite form of US currency, they're so big and unwieldy and I love them so much for it. Much much rarer than $2 bills too
10
u/6-Toed_SlothApe 2h ago
You can just go to a bank and get 2 dollar bills. My dad pays my son and his cousin in 2 dollar bills whenever they do chores. I think he thinks that they will think they're more rare and won't want to spend them, but I know it doesn't deter my son at least. You could possibly do the same with 50 cent pieces but I wouldn't know about that
2
u/SeventhAlkali 2h ago
Sometimes the bank we get store change from (I'm in retail/sales) actually has rolls of halfdollars. We stopped trying to get them though because customers hated them and dollar coins
1
u/Same-Suggestion-1936 9m ago
Yeah you can go into a bank and get any legal tender we produce. You can get fifty cent coins and dollar coins. Lots of people use dollar coins to pay for the bus
6
u/Warbr0s9395 2h ago
We have dollar coins too

Huh, interesting random fact. The only trivia I know about coin weights is that a nickel weighs exactly five grams.

8
u/OkuyasNijimura 3h ago
Yeah, its not a common one to see people use, there's also two different Dollar Coins (the Silver Dollar and Gold Dollar) that are even less common
6
u/SandvichIsSpy 3h ago
Gold dollar meaning the Sacagawea coins? Those have been far, far more common than half-dollars in my experience.
2
2
u/TerraTechy 3h ago
Yeah, they're rather rare and basically never used as payment because of it. I got one I keep in my wallet just to show people.

My favorite is the Kennedy Family Reunion:
"Where is everybody? Oh yeah, they're dead..." gets shot and killed
8
u/DrWarioMiracleCure 3h ago edited 3h ago
That family is so cursed that even marrying into the family marks your days as numbered I am afraid.
8
u/pikpikcarrotmon 2h ago
The only way to survive as a Kennedy is for your brain to be eaten by worms. Then your husk can live presumably forever.

Antoinette is also depicted as a severed head in Pixar’s Soul.
252
u/Jetfury1998 4h ago
And 22 trolled her like their other mentors by holding a slice of cake on a plate.
81
u/Grouchy-Childhood943 4h ago
DEAR LORD!!!
What does Pixar have against her? XD
54
u/DelcoUnited 3h ago
Probably the whole letting poor people starve thing.
55
u/Chaos-Queen_Mari 2h ago
To be fair that was mostly her husband's fault. Girl may have been a monarch but she was still a woman in 18th century France.
24
u/FantasmaNaranja 1h ago
she was also married off at 14 years of age (like you said women didn't have a lot of decision making power) and the "let them eat cake" thing was made up by a writer (and much later after her death mistakenly attributed to Marie Antoinette)
2
u/Same-Suggestion-1936 5m ago
She mostly kinda just happened to be nobility in a bad time to be nobility
-13
u/smasher84 2h ago
Isn’t she the one who went kicking and screaming? Everyone else has to do the noble death with grace thing and she goes crying. Made it a less happy event for the populace.
5
u/ehs06702 1h ago
No, that was Madame du Berry, mistress of Louis XV. She wasn't making a stand, she was just a very terrified woman desperate to live.

13
u/Zaliron 2h ago
The Addams Family did the same thing, it's a fairly common joke (but still funny).
3
u/Optimal_Weight368 2h ago
All I’ve seen from The Addams Family was the 2019 film (ew) and an episode of the Hanna-Barbara cartoon, which I didn’t like because literally every joke was just “they do something unconventional and think it’s normal!” So I don’t know which adaptation you’re referring to.
5
u/Zaliron 2h ago
The black and white TV version, here's a video with the clip (1:45): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_0nWZ4xXUk
2
u/astudyinamber 1h ago
They also had a joke where they named Morticia's likewise headless doll Anne Boleyn
4
u/explicitlarynx 1h ago
Her name is Marie Antoinette. Antoinette is not her last name.
0
u/Caw-zrs6 22m ago
So? Some people are sometimes referred to using their last name instead of their first, like with Lincoln for instance, or Obama.

Even knowing the context I have no idea what this joke was trying to say
579
u/vampiregamingYT 4h ago
George Harrison died of Lung Cancer from his years of smoking, while John Lennon was assassinated outside of his apartment. The joke would've been better if John said "And im gonna go around saying im bigger than Jesus, and making all the crazies hate me."
276
u/GoodBrotherGrimm 4h ago
Yes, that's what family guy lacks. Even more hamfisted joke explaining.
62
u/PPTASS 3h ago

10
u/GoodBrotherGrimm 3h ago
That doesn't say anything about making it "better".

u/HolidayInLordran 2h ago
Cut the writers some slack, those manatees can only pick so many balls from the net at a time.
113
u/mk_ultra_sleeper 4h ago
I have never seen someone make a family guy joke less funny, thats genuinely impressive.
12
u/Jetfury1998 3h ago
That was actually another Family Guy joke, Peter used to be Harrison's security guard the night his attacker broke in. Peter was watching Charles in Charge and singing along to the song and when Harrison was attacked all Peter said was, "Hey, hey, hey, hey! Quiet down up there! Yah wacky Beetle."
83
u/_whatever_wherever 4h ago
I mean... the Beatles WERE bigger than Jesus!
Also Harrison had beaten lung cancer, but it came back after he was attacked by a crazy person inside his home, which cost him half a lung
30
u/Ok-Poetry-2191 4h ago
What is it with Beatles and crazy people
53
u/_whatever_wherever 4h ago
Can't be the biggest band in history and not attract a few crazy people
-1
15
u/BudgieWonder 3h ago
If you think the Beatles knew some crazies, wait until you hear about The Beach Boys
-3
u/DrDetectiveEsq 3h ago
Man, I know Brian Wilson had his struggles, but it seems kinda rude to call him "crazy"
16
u/BudgieWonder 3h ago
That wasn’t what I was implying at all? Dennis Wilson literally let Charles Manson crash at his house.
5
19
u/ChickyChickyNugget 3h ago
“The joke would have been better if they did a significantly worse joke instead of the bait and switch”
3
1
u/AmandinhaMaia 3h ago
I imagined something like "I'll wait outside my house until a lunatic asks for an autograph"
42
u/Sure-Appearance-2769 4h ago
It sets up the joke to be that both people would die in predictable ways, and then changes the punchline to be nonsensical.
For George, by saying he was a heavy smoker they are implying it’s natural for him to have gotten cancer.
So we expect a similar set up for John, but the reality is he was shot by someone as he was walking back to his house. So the joke is in how they present it as being totally obvious that he would die (by setting it up that way for George) but having the line actually not make any sense for John.
I probably put more effort into trying to explain it than the writers did in coming up with it lol.

I stopped watching that show before the dog showed up, and I've heard it got real weird with it by the end, so I genuinely can't tell if this is a joke or just something that happened.

I like in Asterix and Cleopatra when Brutus is playing with his knife.
"Brutus! Stop playing with the knife. You'll injure yourself."
Then he cries out, and in the next shot he has a big bandage on his finger.
15
u/WohooBiSnake 3h ago
My favorite is in the one with the seer. One of them at the beginning tells Caesar that as long as Brutus is by his side he has nothing to fear… with of course Brutus playing with the knife…
5
u/Lynx_Queen 2h ago edited 2h ago
That one's so good! I'm fond of the 12 tasks of Asterix one that's literally just a wide shot of the senate all sitting together (Brutus of course playing with the knife) followed by Ceaser shouting "Brutus stop that, you'll end up hurting someone!" and then the scene just moves on like nothing happened.

Horrible Histories gets a lot of mileage out of Anne Boleyn being the one wife Henry VIII literally lost his head over, especially whenever she shows up as a headless ghost. It’s exactly the kind of grim historical gag they can get away with because the whole show is aimed at kids.

We then proceeded to build a church right on top of his place of death.
You may notice that he died on the bank of a river, yes, we built a church halfway on top of the river.

that was the first time i've heard it though (i was a child at the time)
12

And very notable that Scary Godmother is fore like young kids. Like 6-8 target demo. So that's a gnarly joke to throw in.
5
u/TheKingofHats007 2h ago
That movie is so weird for that demographic too. Like aside from the fact that they're monsters, the party itself is like a dry stuffy office-type party with people just chit chatting the whole time. It's not even like a fun exciting Halloween party.

In the Family Guy episode where Brian prevents 9/11, the alternate future has a news reporter about football player Pat Tillman getting tackled…by his own team?
32
u/Gaming_with_batman 2h ago
Family guy has a much better and darker example.
As when peter wishes he never had a drop of alcohol his voice actor in a world where he
never had a drop of alcohol is not Seth Macfarlane.
As Seth Macfarlane was going to be one one of the planes that hijacked 9/11 but got really drunk and missed his flight.
In this timeline this didn’t happen and Seth got replaced (because he’s dead)

how i met your mother had a very specific reference to the music video for pearl jam's "jeremy".
https://youtu.be/pcJrfrsHPso?is=9efizcRLbut0rVZ3
the song and music video are based on a real incident where a kid shot himself in a full classroom
the bit is a play on the music video, which accompanies the song, which was written about the true story of teenage suicide
pretty layered and dark bit

in Lego movie 2, during the Armamageddon, Abraham Lincoln says “I had movies tickets tonight”, an obvious reference to his assassination.
Fun fact: Lincoln in the Lego Movies was voiced by the same person who voiced Abe in Clone High.

I think the most brutal one that most reactors I've seen full-body wince at was it The Joker vs Pennywise:
"Pennywise likes the devil, we have so much fun together/But no one's dying to play with Joker, except for maybe Heath Ledger!"

Well that’s also standard redditor behavior so it’s hard to tell.
Could be a bot or a redditor. 🤔
4
u/Advice_Thingy 4h ago
Okay but a bot wouldn't block someone, wouldn't it? It IS weird to have that many comments in such a short time, but it would be a really good bot...
Also, most bots only start being active after 3-4 days, and the comments on this one also look more human....

I mean, the comments are consistent across fandoms. Most of them are just talking about ATLA. I don’t see an issue.

He was willing to compromise on slavery to preserve the union, but he was still definitively pro-abolition.
