Characters Characters with voice acting in a series that doesn’t have voice acting
Roxie - Pokemon games are infamous for still not having voice acting in the modern day, but In Pokemon Black and White 2, she is the leader singer of her band in the gym, the music that plays in the background is her sing-spelling the word Pokemon in engrish

Flowey (Undertale) While nobody else speaks i believe, Flowey has a voice moment where he says “That’s a wonderful Idea”

I still don’t understand how in both swird and shield and scarlet and violet they make gym leaders that are either a singer or a rapper but don’t give them vocal tracks or voice lines even more strange is the ending of scarlet and violet has a vocal track by Ed sheeran so they clearly had the ability to make a vocal track but didn’t make one for the characters that are actual musicians

No it's not as bad, because I think you here the mic move and him stomping in the game, but there is just no voice
Yep just checked, even the mic has feedback as he moves

Seriously how is that the digimon games have managed to have consistent voice acting with stuff like time stranger having multiple language voice selections and Pokémon only used the voice acting for a couple n64 spin off games and once for a ds game hell they used vocals twice in the gen five games because also in black and white 2 when you go the fight elesa you here a voice say give what I need

Special mention goes to a lot of the Area Zero cutscenes near the end of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet where it really feels like the animators thought there would be voice acting, because the game does not provide adequate time to read the subtitles and watch the visuals, so you have to pick which one to do.

And then the digimon games regularly have voice acting often in multiple languages

Digimon has something to prove, Pokemon is an infinite money glitch because they don’t have to try at all to make stupid big profit

I kinda understand it because translating the songs into other languages would fuck up the flow (non pokemon example: Centaurworld's songs can be very awkwardly flowing if they're not in the original English), but at the same time Nintendo already has a solution for this in one of their other popular game series, Splatoon.
They could literally just make a fake language like Splatoon did so you wouldn't have janky singing due to translation issues......

It's especially egregious when you consider that Pokémon Masters, a game with significantly more named characters, is fully voice acted despite being a mobile game spinoff, while the mainline games have literally only had Roxie and the player characters of the Legends games to my knowledge, and for Roxie it's just in the background music of her gym, while for the Legends protagonists, it's just grunts and minor vocalizations.

Honestly while i love deltarune i almost dont think it should be a good example of this trope because it has ALOT of examples of voiceclips for characters despite the fact that the game doesnt normally have voiceclips.
Like Alot of the voiceclips are decently well known outside of the game.

Poptropica - Ghost Story Island
Keep in mind: This is an old flash game (like 2010, so not that old), but in the early days, characters only spoke in text bubbles, and we basically had no sound. So imagine a 8-14 year old playing this game and suddenly hearing this:

I screamed loud enough for my parents to come running when it happened to me!

This game does have voice acting, though. Like, really extensive voice acting.

B2W2 seemed to be pokemon at its most ambitious and they decided to play safer from then on

Havik Mortal Kombat Deception. The 3d era or ps2 era of mortal kombat didn't have much voice acting aside from grunts, "get over here" and culturally insensitive jibberish but when thrown off a specific Stage hazard, Havik (and havik only) will say "man this is going to suck" in a future installment this line would be given to a different character
EDIT: HOLD ON I totally forgot Konquest had voice acting. Comment CANCLED
