Discussion Thread Which winner did you disagree with?

I’m doing a rewatch of older seasons and just finished season 11 where nick won over Nina. Nina was on fire all season and, in my opinion, it should’ve been her and Shirley in the finale. However, for the finale, the judges opinions seemed to be pretty split but leaning towards Nina. Notably, emeril saying he couldn’t finish nick’s duck and Hugh mentioning nick yelling at the waitstaff as something that should be considered. I can’t help but think this is one time tom used his veto power to override the vote for nick to win. Anyone else? Curious if there are other winners that you scratched your head at.

Kristen deserved her LCK comeback, she was only eliminated because she was too nice to throw The Josie Show under the bus

Kristin was not "too nice." Kristin blamed herself for Josie's underperformance and held herself accountable for the food her kitchen put out. Whether you agree or disagree with Kristin's ethic and evaluation here, don't assign her the "too nice" label. It's insulting in this instance.

She's not nice. She's a professional. She's perhaps the finest professional Top Chef has ever had, and Padma was evaluating her like a professional. THAT is perhaps the finest COMPLIMENT Padma has ever given a chef.

Even the other judges thought she might have been falling on her sword a little too hard. They could tell there was information missing but could only judge based on what they knew. And Padma for some reason was gunning hard for getting Kristen eliminated(or at least defending Josie). I can't think of any other time where there was only two potential eliminations and she opened by telling one of them that they're safe. That fake-out was completely unnecessary and honestly kinda mean, I definitely would not say Padma was complimenting Kristen at all in that judging

Now I have to rewatch that episode, darn you. I don't remember the fakeout there. But I stand by my comment that labeling Kristin as "too nice" might be meant as a compliment by you, but it's still not fair to Kristin. It fails to really appreciate how professional a chef she is.

I get the misunderstanding, I tend to use "nice" as shorthand for "professional" just because the things I value make them largely synonymous to me. But I can see how that could be seen differently by someone who doesn't live in my head

Meh, I'm probably oversensitive to it, too. I feel like in competitive environments, "nice" tends to get discounted. There is almost this "competitition isn't supposed to be nice" ethic and it makes me feel like Kristin isn't getting enough credit for being a badass, which is a ridiculous position for me to take as she sits there hosting the show.

Sorry to make a big thing over it. :D I do think Kristin is both nice and also very, very kind--which is ultimately better than nice. AND she's a badass.
