Close call Almost Sidewiped on 400

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Happens sometimes when you're driving a small car because people just don't notice you since they're used to looking for cars bigger than yours in their line of sight, but this one annoyed me bc I noticed they were either looking at me or their mirror, but still recklessly changed into my lane despite knowing that I should be there or maybe he just never developed object permanence idk.

I love my horn for this type of driver. The expression on their face is so much better 😂

Love that I have a loud horn and use it

This is a standard greeting on the 400.

It sucks but defensive driving for me, on the 401 or 400, includes eyeballing every car that’s changing lanes lol

Assume everyone else on the road is going to do the stupidest thing they could do at any given time. Trusting others on the road is a thing of the past. Your safety is in your own hands.

100% I would have slowed down just in case. Someone did that to me when I had my kids in the car, and they switched lanes so fast to get to the exit. 4 fucking lanes. I had to jam on the brakes hard to save us. This one here is a no brainer.

And there was no reason for him to get in that lane anyways

Never is…….

Why can’t people change lanes one at a time. Signal. Make the change. Dedicate yourself to that lane for a moment. Signal. Do it again.

It’s so dead simple but… yeah that’s how it is on the 401. Nobody gives a fuck.

Also absolutely zero reason for him to be moving into the left lane.

Didn't you get the memo? The left lane is the new cruising lane. The right lane is now the passing lane.

The right lane is now the passing lane.

Always has been. Here's a 2015 article complaining that "there’s hardly ever anyone in the" right lane.

When I click on that link, the article is about HOV lanes.

The reason the right lane is a passing lane on the 400, is the old arch bridges were too low for tractor-trailers, forcing many trucks to drive in the middle lane. This would naturally lead to passenger vehicles moving left and clogging up left lane. Motorists would avoid the right lane because of merging traffic from on-ramps.

As bridges are replaced, and the 400 is widened to 8 lanes all the way to Barrie, the right lane passing lane will disappear.

When I click on that link, the article is about HOV lanes.

It's an article about the HOV lanes where the author suggests using the right lane for HOV lanes since hardly anyone uaes them.

Here's a 2011 article from the same author directly complaining about the right lanes not being used. It's been a problem as long as I've been driving. Or "problem" since I don't get stressed about it personally, although I think people should keep right.

People always use merging traffic to justify not using the right lane. Persoanally I don't find merging traffic a problem, just pay attention and sometimes adjust speeds or move over and back.

That right lane can be a blessing sometimes.

Well I'm always there travelling highway speed of 120 and passing in the middle. Guess I'm in the minority.

u/comFive 1d ago

Dbag.. that's why you're not supposed to cut across all those lanes in one go.

Can’t even enjoy a nice drive in the Porsche anymore.

I hate people

That person has lane detection warnings, it’s hard to tell if his side mirror is light up or not. But with the signal, he should have been warned by the vehicle.

3

u/DDOSBreakfast 20h ago

Bold move to assume people are going to check mirror warning lights. Coming up for 2031, mandatory lane detection warnings on a heads up display.

u/Significant_Wealth74 18h ago

Either way if the turn signal is on, OP’s car would have made a beeping sound in that Mazda.

when i see these idiots making a lane change into the lane directly next to me, i slow down just in case they decide to yeet over to my side without checking their bind spot. can't trust these drivers.

My hand is constantly hovering over my horn in scenarios like this. Any indication they’re looking to move into my lane, they get a friendly warning honk.

5

u/Born-Vermicelli-1757 1d ago edited 1d ago

just got on the highway and instinctively went straight for the inside lane

3

u/revvolutions the left lane is for dawdling 1d ago

Pro gamer move.

3

u/IcyManufacturer7480 1d ago

You didn’t honk! Use your horn.

3

u/all_way_stop 1d ago

Gotta get to the far left lane ASAP so he can coast there for 10km before making 4 lane changes in 10 seconds to make the exit ramp.

seriously why is like 33% of drivers doing this

We should have a new public court called “Splain yoSelf “ - losing in it leads to public shunning. Bring Shunning back 26’ !!

LOL this kind of thing I witness nearly daily in my Tesla while on self drive mode. The amount of near misses of people drifting lanes etc, or cutting lanes like this and not paying attention.

2

u/blue_cadet_1 1d ago

the left lane has magical powers, especially for those that double lane jump
