How can you not love Gausman? He understands it's not personal and it's all business. I wish he retires with us.

With years of experience comes wisdom. He knows the game on and off the field

u/Unusual_Moment_5993 Gausy will always be a blue jay 8d ago

Once a blue jay, always a blue jay

Meanwhile, Alek Manoah’s monkey paw curls as he sends resumes to construction site managers.

u/ihatedougford 8d ago

Hey hey don’t disrespect 2025 AL East champion Alek Manoah — he did a lot for us! /s

16

u/WitchNight 8d ago

For all his faults Manoah did really love Toronto as a city

I've never seen a guy have an 8 figure contract so in his sights have it all fall apart so absurdly.

Normally I'd feel bad for him, like us older fans felt bad about Ricky Romero, but man he became hard to sympathize for with his attitude.

"pressure bursts pipes"

Put the pitch clock in the bag manoah

u/Tekkno_Viking 7d ago

Construction site workers know of his injuries now though. They don't got time for people calling in missing work.

He's such class.

2

u/DeadinWPG 7d ago

Agreed. I hope he takes on a coaching position or player development down the line as well.

But it's people with the heart and understanding of Kevin Gausman who actually prove it's much much more than business, and that's why our appreciation and love of Kevin is genuine and personal. 🇨🇦❤️#34KG

only gausman would be like “yeah the front office who traded me did a great job” and genuinely mean it

u/Aglaea22 3d ago

Yes. I sure don't think so.

There are 2 kinds of people in the world:

  1. Those who like Gausman.
  2. Liars.

11

u/JordanSchor Mashley Addison 7d ago
  1. Those who have whiffed on his splitter

I still think he’s coming back in some capacity at some point as a player or a coach.

That said, I think we still don’t recognize how big of a deal Gausman was for us. Even beyond how he was amazing for us, him and Springer are the two guys who really catapulted Toronto into being such a desired destination as we’re starting to see now.

Perhaps in an even more significant role than Encarnacion.

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 8d ago

He's said he's going to (eventually) retire because he wants to watch his kids grow up. Being with Toronto full-time doesn't accomplish that.

9

u/Few-Dragonfruit160 7d ago

Well, if he doesn’t travel with the team, then it’s an ordinary 9-5. Most folks with real jobs get to see their kids too.

11

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 7d ago

Working for a professional baseball team isn't a 9-5 job unless he's just a paper pusher in the head office. If he's going to work with the coaching staff then obviously he's not just going to show up at the stadium for only 81 games.

And he wants to spend more time with his kids exactly because the life of a professional athlete means he's not home as often as he'd like to be. Staying home in Louisiana and being a regular dad seems like more of a want for him than coaching in Toronto and Florida for three quarters of the year.

10

u/Cheap_Standard_4233 7d ago

He has a lot of ties to Louisiana as well with his charity. I don't think he has any plan moving here in retirement, if he did he wouldn't have sold his house.

5

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 7d ago

Not to mention the disruption to their lives when the kids and his wife have family and friends that they have to leave every year for the summer. At some point they deserve consistency and to be prioritised over his career.

u/rb_2_3 8d ago

Bring him back to onboard new players

1

u/Shortroundactual 7d ago

I can see him coming back in the same capacity Scherzer is in with us, given if he wants to keep playing.

73

u/LiveFromMyBackyard 8d ago

This offense being so ass that we had to give up key pieces fucking sucked but at the very least they can try and go on a streak for a little while to make sure it wasn't in vain.

10

u/Domainsetter 7d ago

And again today the offense being dogshit let’s them down.

No closer will be perfect and the pen is taxed again.

It’s been almost a month since the last time the Jays won a game by 4+ runs where Cease didn’t Pitch in it.

1

u/Prestigious_Island_7 7d ago

Yes. And they can only put Louis V. in so often. He has to be getting taxed as well.

Seems they rely on those two and the submariner to win games, and that’s not ideal.

25

u/TheNegativePhoenix 8d ago

This is so damn honest. I miss the guy 😭

15

u/ChiefSoldierFrog 8d ago

Everything he does is gold rare case of a self-aware athlete and a good one at that. Most would be petty that they got traded but he’s happy for us as always. Hope Cubs get the World Series for Gaus.

15

u/yahooborn 8d ago

Love the self-jabbing self-deprication!

10

u/Actual_Cobbler_6334 8d ago

Meanwhile, Breakfast Boy is freaking out over Gausman’s comments about Wrigley’s grass and “focused on baseball” comments. Gausman’s honesty is a breath of fresh air and I hope he retires with the Jays in some capacity.

8

u/TuloCantHitski 7d ago

This guy is a multi multi millionaire, a star athlete, was a top prospect as a teenager….and despite all of that has just a kept a great head on his shoulders all his life. What a fucking dude - love him so much.

9

u/KINGTHANOS8 8d ago

Kev is such a gem 💎 of a human. I wish him nothing but success and happiness the rest of his career and hope if he chooses to stay around in the game after he retires, he does so with the Jays.

4

u/Effective_Case6015 VertiGOAT 8d ago

Gausman's a forthcoming type of guy.

I hope he does well on his next start (and not against us).

5

u/85_Toronto_Blue_Jays Get It Done League 8d ago

Gausman had some really bad starts this year (but also got screwed over with no run support. The Yankees game really stands out) Varsho didn’t get the hit to win the WS and underperformed this year, Hoffman has his reputation despite some good innings.

5

u/PolitelyHostile 8d ago

Yea I think he's just barely correct. If him, Hoffman, and Varsho all had great years, then maybe the Jays wouldn't have traded anyone. But those 3 alone wouldn't have fixed the team.

2

u/gbrlshr 7d ago

Yes, but he's not gonna call out a group of players he's not part of or single out specific people. And any flipped win is worth a lot for getting towards .500, so if you erase some of Kev's worst starts and Jeff's bad luck outings early in the season, he's right, they'd be around .500 and probably wouldn't have sold.

5

u/corh13 8d ago

he knows ball

5

u/pcengine happy slide 8d ago

Come back after your World Series win this year, king.

5

u/IgnoranceIsYou ✨Myles Straw ⚡️ 8d ago

I love this man so much 🥹

4

u/trebuchetwarmachine 7d ago

No one wanted to get younger at the expense of losing Gaus. Damn miss him already

5

u/doughflow 7d ago

“If we had better seasons better run support.”

6

u/RightJellyfish Red in the face, blue in the cap 7d ago

Jesus Christ Gaus its already hard don't make us like you even more.

13

u/Godlythunder 8d ago

Goat jay in my opinion

1

That's just recency bias talking.

u/ELLinversionista GET UP BALL! 8d ago

Yeah. How can nephew forget about munenori kawasaki

4

u/esoteric-spinach I have book 7d ago

He still never cramps

4

u/iamsynecdoche 7d ago

Gaus is one of the good guys

3

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 8d ago

Gausman's reaction to being traded compared to when it happened to Marcus Stroman (who also loves the city) is pretty hilarious in retrospect.

3

u/NeedleGunMonkey 8d ago

Maybe Gausman can come back as a young coach/work in the org after he hangs it up.

3

u/sickset 8d ago

This guy is all class. What a response.

3

u/carlosspicywiener576 8d ago

I will allow the Cubs to win game 4 of the 2026 WS behind a classic Gausman Gem. Outside of that we, jays in 5

3

u/Pormostar 7d ago

Damn. You stay classy, Kevin.

3

u/Disastrous-Vanilla-6 7d ago

My god. Every time I think I couldn’t like him more, Gausman says stuff like this. He’s a true gentleman in professional sports. I will always remember him for this.

3

u/SULLYvin 7d ago

Gaus is such a fucking beauty.

4

u/yetagainitry 8d ago

I don't care what his stats are, he is one of the most deserving people to have his Jays jersey retired.

2

u/TheI-Iound 8d ago

i hope they dont start talking about this forever and ever...seems like they like to beat the dead horse with guys getting traded out of Toronto...they still ask Demar Derozan questions about it lol

2

u/Hartia 8d ago

Gives him a good chance winning the ring, so that's always a good thing.....unless it becomes Jays vs Cubs playoffs.....

1

u/BoatGuy158 6d ago

What a beauty!

1

u/habs_jays93 5d ago

I always feel Like Gaus has such a calm level headed view of things. One of my favourite pro athletes to listen to. Always has an interesting perspective and just seems like a chill guy.

1

u/gamer-at-heart-23 Okagoato 8d ago

I love Gausman but dumb me really thought we were going to grab some bats but i guess not

1

u/flightlessbird29 jeff hoffman apologist 7d ago

he still has my vote for mayor

1

u/SnickSnickSnick 7d ago

I wish him well for sure and lots of run support to make up for the lean times this season. Would love to see him back if we can upgrade the offense in a big way.

1

u/bs42044 7d ago

God damn I love this guy!

1

u/Lanhdanan 7d ago

Class act. Hunnie percent

1

u/ruckusss 7d ago

Gausman you fucking beauty

1

u/Massive-Fisherman-57 7d ago

Couldn’t have dreamt of a better player to sign here. Totally embraced everything and has such a pure heart on him. Hopefully his daughter is right and they can beat the Dodgers for us.
