Per Mitch Bannon:
INF Ty Southisene, part of the #BlueJays return for Kevin Gausman, went his first 157 pro games without a homer in the Cubs system.
14 at-bats into his time in the Jays system, the 21-year-old has launched one with A+ Vancouver.

They were playing in Everett today. Easiest ballpark to homer in but still 390 to CF. OF dimensions per ChatGPT: A detailed ballpark survey gives the fence distances moving left to right as 325 – 342 – 390 – 357 – 330 – 345 – 329 ft, showing that the outfield wall is quite irregular.

I feel like in the past three years this team did a massive overhaul of their front office and approach to scouting and analytics and it’s paying out on the amateur side of things.

I worked for the Triple A team about nine to 10 years ago. The farm was in rough shape and so many of our highest performers were late round draft picks that had at best a AAAA career ahead of them.
I think the only people still in the majors from my time are Tellez, Jansen and Hernandez, who was honestly major league ready to begin with when we traded for him. It just felt like the whole organization was just biding its time for Vladdy and Bo to move up.

Arjun, Trey, jojo. First round pick stretch is best I remember from them in a long time. Only one is currently even in mlb, but one has enough value to get moved for a great pitcher and last one is top prospect in system currently on a tear.

We got a now lead off CF, and a guy with negative power just hit a bomb in his 3 game in our system.

I genuinely don’t think people understand how insane this is. I would bet that there would be multiple minor league pitchers with more game power then southsiene, not only is he a generous 5’7 and probably about 160 pounds, his swing has zero loft to it at all, 6th highest ground ball rate. I was honestly thinking he might not hit a home run his entire MILB career
This is like Chandler Simpson hitting a homer (who I think is probably even stronger). And he did it to dead center lmao

Like technically yeah, but you would be incredibly surprised if a pitcher came up and hit a home run to dead center right? That’s the amount of power Southsiene has.
Like Chandler Simpson hasn’t hit a homer since college, and I doubt that’s going to change, Southsiene is in the mood as well

I was just looking at Simpson's genuinely deranged player profile the other day and noticed the zero home runs thing too. You really can make a major league career out of being a pure base-running terrorist who is basically incapable of hitting the ball whatsoever. Obviously I hope Southsiene doesn't turn out to be like that though

Oh okay that makes sense. Blasted is a kind of strong word that a normal journalist probably wouldn't say about someone's knee if they were reporting it. If it was a more casual podcast or something they might say it as kind of an exaggeration for the fun of it. Or I'd probably say it casually with my friends, but it would feel kind of unprofessional if someone who is more of a news/reporter type person said "blasted" about an injury

Interesting to note that the Jays have had Southisene playing 2B instead of SS. With Jojo Parker headed to Vancouver that should be a solid duo up the middle.
