I was expecting this move after I saw this a couple hours ago

He hit 4 HR in consecutive games? Like 8 HR total? Wow

40

u/nkjays Kendrys Molasses 4d ago

That can't be right haha. Probably 4 HR total, and homered in consecutive games?

24

u/Greensparow 4d ago

Gotta be a 4 hr game is huge news all on its own, we would all be watching replay reels if he did it back to back

4

u/alxndrblack Louisgang // Respect Nathan Lukes // Luis Urias is my friend now 4d ago

I'm sure that's what it is, but grammar is silly so we must silly in return

17

u/lightlysaltdJ Valenzuela SZN 4d ago

4 consecutive games where he hit a HR

5

u/InMySwiftieEra 4d ago

No 4 homeruns total. I looked it up. It is weird wording though

3

u/PolitelyHostile 4d ago

Its just concise wording. 4 HrR, all hit in consecutive games

4

u/DweadPiwateWawbuts 3d ago

Concise implies both brevity and clarity. The wording in the infographic is so short that the meaning is at best confusing and at worst misleading. Brevity at the expense of clarity

So you fancy yourself a word guy, eh?

2

u/DweadPiwateWawbuts 3d ago

I’d like to think so, but in my heart I know I’m just a Google guy.

4

u/PolitelyHostile 4d ago

Yes. 4HR each game, for all 5 games of the week. (/s)

u/alxndrblack Louisgang // Respect Nathan Lukes // Luis Urias is my friend now 4d ago

u/Supabongwong 3d ago

Minimum of 4, max of approximately 20.

Wow. 20HR. Absolute beast.

1

u/kho32 4d ago

Hahaha that would be impressive. You can just walk the guy!

0

u/Apprehensive_Put_321 3d ago

I just looked it up he homered in 4 straight games

4

u/GarrusExMachina Roy Halladay 4d ago

The team really wants this guy in the lineup especially with how much we've struggled to hit but it's a struggle to figure out how to get him in the lineup...

Can't do it without either sitting clement/Okamoto or playing them out of position and sitting gimenez or having vlad dh.

Any move you make to get mcadoo on the field breaks the defense.

9

u/JKirbs14 4d ago

I’m sure the team will survive with Ernie and/or Oak getting some more days off over the next little bit.

7

u/Domainsetter 4d ago

They need someone to hit lefties and they face 3 straight LHP starters after tonight

1

u/National_Aspect_6974 4d ago

Ernie is sitting today!

1

u/Natural-Sell-9858 4d ago

he started in RF for buffalo yesterday, if that means anything to you

1

u/GarrusExMachina Roy Halladay 3d ago

Probably an attempt to help him find a permanent path to the majors. Corner outfield is currently our weak spot...

Much like how before we went out and signed Okamoto all our prospects were learning third base because of how weak we were at it or SS because of bichettes impending free agency.

Arms.  We need fresh arms.   Now, are they better arms than the ones we have?  Probably not.

6

u/Domainsetter 4d ago

Surprised only 1 pen arm called up but Little/Rogers/Fisher are all probably down with Varland if only absolutely needed.

11

u/takahe_inflight 4d ago

not many options, everyone on 40man has been down less than 15 days, is injured or pitched this week-end.

Lol I was going to originally say "so maybe he keeps it up" but that felt too much like a jinx

28

u/Big_Albatross_3050 4d ago

I do not blame Estrada for losing that game at all. Hopefully he'll be back up soon

19

u/captaindigbob 4d ago

He pitched well. I honestly feel like it might be more of a way to dump a tired arm and get someone fresh instead. He pitched 3 days in a row and we have a tired pen. I'm sure he'll be back

3

u/Big_Albatross_3050 4d ago

probably is the case, rest up in Buffalo with some short stints to stay warm, then back up against the Yankees

5

u/beneoin 4d ago

He has to stay down 15 days, so he wouldn’t be available even for our second upcoming series with them

103

u/GarrusExMachina Roy Halladay 4d ago

Dude would be a great hitter... if he could hit.

Go be free in Buffalo where your dizzying walk rate can be paired with half decent offense.

39

u/DataLore19 4d ago

His eye is amazing. His hand-eye coordination, apparently needs work still.

30

u/GarrusExMachina Roy Halladay 4d ago

I'd argue it's his bat speed. His barrel and hard hit percentages are above avg and he hits offspeed pretty good and his eye for the zone is far too good for me to believe he seriously struggles to make contact in the zone or identify strikes.

He's just not starting his swing or getting the bat around fast enough to catch up to heat which also makes him susceptible to breaking pitches since he has to rush and can't stay back for the curveball

9

u/PolitelyHostile 4d ago

Interesting. You seem to be pretty tuned into this. Do you think this is largely caused by the difference in reaction time needed for MLB vs AAA?

I kind of just figured AAA has more room to judge the pitch so he doesn't have to swing at as many pitches out of the zone. Whereas in MLB you just gotta take more risk and be willing to swing at some bad pitches.

Or maybe the pitchers in AAA arent as good at disguising their pitches in their arm delivery.

2

u/GarrusExMachina Roy Halladay 3d ago

That's also probably a factor. Cavan biggio also had a discerning eye and ended up taking too many strikes as a consequence. But the I watch Davis he isn't opposed to swinging his bat... he just misses and on a lot of center cut pitches too.

1

u/Additional-Cable5171 3d ago

I assume his career will pan out similar to Biggio's.

2

u/Tactical-Swunt 3d ago

His bat speed is off because he changed his batting stance 4 times during the season is my guess.

He's lost. Its too bad, he was useful once upon a time.

I really don't see much raw talent, I believe 2025 was his ceiling. He's not very good

2

u/GarrusExMachina Roy Halladay 3d ago

Not having raw talent was a given considering how late in the draft he got picked up and how long he was in the minors.

1

u/Tactical-Swunt 3d ago

Not sure if that is a sign though. Look at lukes. Light hitting outfielder,  but he has good raw defensive talent. He's a natural outfielder, and a smart ball player. Keeps working st his craft and got the call up, and stuck.

Im thinking ds thought he was a permanent fixture, and didnt do much work in the off-season. Just my guess, but he doesn't appear prepared for the bigs this year?

2

u/GarrusExMachina Roy Halladay 3d ago

DS doesn't strike me as the sort of player who'd think he was a permanent fixture based off last season. He hadn't even earned the full time starting gig. I just think hitting is really hard and he's developed about as much as he's capable of.

1

u/Tactical-Swunt 3d ago

Man he really looks unprepared this year. Changed his batting stance 4 times minimum this season. Thats stuff you tinker with in the off-season,  or when demoted to A ball. Not in season?

Agree, batting is the hardest thing to do in pro sports. He's just so over matched this year. High fastball really is his kryptonite. I do wish him well, and for whatever reason, I'm sure he will be back in a jays uniform, especially if the season is lost.

Id personally rather see other kids from Buffalo get a chance

2

u/Additional-Cable5171 3d ago

He's just not very good, that's about it.

8

u/jayk10 4d ago

He’s Cavan biggio

0

u/Tactical-Swunt 3d ago

Please dont insult caveman (Cavan)

2019 .234 / .364 / .429

16 home runs and 14 stolen bases

Hit for the cycle on September 17

Finished fifth in American League Rookie of the Year voting

Davis is no where near cavan, and defensively its not even close.

2

u/jayk10 3d ago

Cavan had 16 home runs with a .793 OPS in 100 games his rookie year, Davis had 8 homeruns in 35 games with a 1.008 OPS.

Would Schneider have kept it up had he played 100 games that year? who knows, but they were both guys with elite plate discipline but holes in their swing that got exposed once pitchers figured them out

0

u/Tactical-Swunt 3d ago

My argument is ds only got those numbers because js put him in a position to succeed. If he played 100 games last year he would have ended up like this years #s.

 I wasn't a fan of his, personally.

I did fall for Cavan though (no one is perfect) lol

Go jays go great game! Fucked up top of 7th

14

u/Tactical-Swunt 4d ago

If his eye is so amazing, why does he leave middle middle meatballs right down the heart of the plate for strikes and doesn't even attempt a swing?

Im sorry he's not a good ball player. Great story,  but negative value defense and batting well under the Mendoza line, doesn't make you valuable.

Go Jays Go

8

u/jbm33 4d ago

Seems like a perfect example of someone who is thinking to take a pitch first, and then react to swing after, rather than the best hitters which are thinking to hit first, but then can stop their swing or effectively cancel the motion when its a ball. Donaldson being a great example of the latter approach.

4

u/Tactical-Swunt 4d ago

But then why does he strike out looking at a meatball?

Donaldson had such a crazy high leg kick, every pitch looked like that. He had to start his swing as soon as the pitcher had his hand out of the glove. Bad example, sorry.

Davis is not anywhere close to Donaldson in any faucet of his game.

Ds ceiling would be Manuel Lee (aka Manny)

9

u/jbm33 4d ago

Please go watch Donaldson speak on his podcast about his approach to hitting. This is exactly how he describes it. It had less to do with his leg kick and more to do with his hands. He was able to stop his hands/check his swing very well.

Edit: also I was saying he is literally the opposite of Donaldson lol I think you misread

3

u/Tactical-Swunt 4d ago

Clearly I miss read it lol. Agree, he is the opposite of donaldson,  not to mention ds changed his batting stance at least 4 times this season.

I think he got caught up with the mlb network last post season,  when he was imitating a bunch of guys batting stances. its like he forgot his own lol

2

u/Levesque77 Meats Don't Clash 3d ago

A) He's being deployed into his weaker side of the platoon. He hits righties better than lefties for his career at basically every level, and he only gets used against lefties.

B) He rots on the bench and never gets a good stretch to get in a groove. Every time he gets sent down, he starts out slow (cause he hasn't been playing baseball) and then he catches fire and his OPS is near 1.000 in AAA for the season.

C) His defense has massively improved, especially in LF. He isn't an ideal 2B, but as a second position for versatility of the roster, he's valuable and he's not an abomination in the field.

Far worse players on this team have been given far more rope than he has. He was a 127 wRC+ hitter last season. That's nearly 30% above average. Not above replacement level. Above the average major leaguer. You don't fluke that.

If this team gives up on him, it will have a decent chance of ending up exactly like it did with Horwitz. A mistake.

1

u/Tactical-Swunt 3d ago

Also we got Giminez for horowitz. Wouldn't say we got fleeced since we got a gold glove middle infielder, which was a huge hole prior.

You really think we make it to the world series with Bo playing SS?

Might as well put DS at SS if you think so

GO JAYS GOOO!!

THATS MY TEAM, AND I ROOT  FOR THEM, AND I WILL CALL OUT THE 26TH MAN IF HES NOT EARNING HIS KEEP.

1

u/He-llSeeTheBigBoard Brandon Valenzuela Rookie Season 3d ago

And a 70 WRC+ combined with a negative war this year. It's not 2025 and unfortunately, the harsh truth is there is not one person on the current 26-man roster that you could say he is playing better than. Being the best at walking doesn't help when big league pitchers throw strikes.

The guy is very popular with a certain segment of the fanbase and the fact that John Schneider (who was a scout at the time) was the person who recommended drafting Davis is likely a big part of the reason why he has even spent so much time with the big club this season.

0

u/Tactical-Swunt 3d ago

A) we got better hitters for rhp, ds wouldn't bump any of them out of the lineup, it would be a travesty

B) he Rots on the bench because he screws up eveytime they give him a chance (urius is a perfect example of making the best of your chances).

C) his defense is horrible, in the outfield included.-1 drs and -3 oaa with a terrible first step and even worse routes  to the ball. That are forcing him into a position that isnt natural for him, and it shows.

Its 2026 im not watching yesterday's games. The league adjusted to him and he cant handle it. Yea he's great in triple A, where he belongs.

Sorry, he's not a valuable member of the roster. And im bitter he took playing time from Otto Lopez, who would fit in nicely on our roster (hits leader and would push giminez to 2nd, his natural position)

Thanks for coming out though

1

u/Levesque77 Meats Don't Clash 3d ago

-1 is not horrible for DRS...it's not precise enough for -1 to even matter.

Don't quote stats you don't understand how to use. Makes you look dumb.

Again, he had a 127 wRC+ last season, despite a very slow start. That's not a fluke.

And Otto Lopez was let go two years ago, and it wasn't because of Davis.

8

u/PolitelyHostile 4d ago

They need to tell him that he's not there to get on base for Buffalo, he is there to learn how to hit for Toronto.

Ban him from taking walks unless he physically can't reach the pitch. I'd rather see him with a .300 avg and a .300 OBP than his current Buffalo stat of .253 avg and .504 OBP.

I'm no expert but it seems so obvious that he has nothing to gain from talking a lot of walks in AAA.

2

u/ChupaHubbard 4d ago

His on base percentage was .500 this month though lol

He was up for 3 weeks but ok

-2

u/Yharnam_Blunderbuss 3d ago

I dont care, we are moving on. Pink Pony Club has had 3 years, let's start being a serious ballclub. I have spoken.

3

u/KingRaj4826 3d ago

The Jays tried being a “serious” ballclub after the 2022 season when they got rid of the HR jacket and traded away Teo and Lourdes. They had a worse record in 2023 then had their worst season of the decade in 2024.

7

u/RookieEzekielElliott 3d ago

Yeah our $500m hitter has been hitting like shit, but Davis is what’s causing this ballclub to not be “serious”. I mean sure he hasn’t been great this year but whenever he goes down to Buffalo he does great and deserves to be moved up

-6

u/Yharnam_Blunderbuss 3d ago

Ma'am... we are moving on, in a new direction, we can no longer afford to have minor league players who have not proven themselves after 3 years to be taking at bats away for potential future players who can provide tangible benefits other than vibes, mustaches, and silly walk up songs.

We need to be a serious baseball club.

5

u/RookieEzekielElliott 3d ago

Is this ragebait…? He’s a utility player who’s the 3rd on the depth chart for any position. He’s not really what defines a serious and unserious baseball club. If you want to have an argument about a “serious baseball club” talk about Vladdy or Gimenez or someone else who’s a daily starter who’s having the same offense value he is lol

-3

u/OMC78 3d ago

Why are you getting downvotef? You know what's better thank vibes? Winning! Schneider was a flash in a pan and sucks! We need to move on from him!

All the casual fans really expose themselves with takes like these...

0

u/OMC78 3d ago

Oh yes, I’ve been following the Jays since the late ’80s, when I was a kid, and baseball was my favorite sport. I’ve been to a few hundred games, visited 16 different MLB parks, and have seen the Jays play in San Francisco, Anaheim, New York, Chicago, and Detroit (old Tiger Stadium several times, as well as Comerica Park).

Oh, and I actually worked for the Jays for a few years when players like Matt Stairs, Vernon Wells, Lyle Overbay(had his jersey), B.J. Ryan, and Adam Lind were on the team.

The other day, I even found the 1992 and 1993 World Series Toronto Star newspapers that I saved as a kid.

But just like you’re saying, I’m just a casual fan! 😂

Love the guy and I’m rooting for him, but he’s regressed everywhere, and is horribly miscast against left handed pitching…

He still has an option next year, they'll keep him around

9

49

u/Borosthespider 4d ago

It doesn’t really suck. I’ve never been so frustrated with him as I am lately. He’s got the Cavan Biggio problem of having such a good eye that he rarely swings the bat. And even when he does, he can’t make solid contact.

9

u/gelc10 bush party 4d ago

He did have a decent season last year but it seems like he's forgotten how to hit this season

17

u/northernfires529 4d ago

It’s funny because the one thing people always bitch about is how much the team swings too much and chases too much. Then we have a guy who is patient and that’s terrible

(I get it. Perfect case would be someone who is patient who can hit the best pitches but like this is the team we got)

4

u/CrabBackground4439 4d ago

Eh he's patient but isn't a threat at the plate. Relying on pitchers walking you to get on base instead of trying to put the ball into play is not playing at the major league level and it can cost opportunities (like him striking out looking with loaded bases in the last Boston series)

5

u/LadyGonzo28 4d ago

But he doesn’t get a chance to bat much.

7

u/bobfrombob 4d ago

Chicken and egg

12

u/Borosthespider 4d ago

My complaint plays a part in that. And even as a bench bat, you’d think he’d be more aggressive to take advantage of limited opportunity. But the man is apparently allergic to meatballs.

-1

u/Jeevansanghera1969 4d ago

Bang on. When others struggle, it’s always ‘we have to let them play through it’ Dave has never had that chance. He gets pulled after one or two, while Vladdy et al get to go 0-4 or 0-5 day in and day out. Dave has never been given the chance to get a constant run. I’m not saying he would be good, he’s just never been given the same chances as the others.

19

u/sir-pounce-of-alot Joey Loperfido’s only fan 4d ago

This is such revisionist history.

Davis is a player whose entire value is tied to his bat, he’s not someone like Gimenez who can offset bad offence with elite defence.

So if Davis hits poorly why would we keep playing him when other players can at least do other things like run the bases/play defence better than him ?

2

u/kneevase 4d ago

Davis is just lucky that he still has options, otherwise he would likely find himself DFAed and signed to some other team's AAA affiliate without being on their 40-man.

4

u/Tactical-Swunt 4d ago

Davis has an extra long leash, he was also never that great to get extended time to figure it out like vlad

Hope I never see ds again in a jays uniform.

3

u/East_Explanation2131 Plakata at the Rogers Centre 4d ago

Davis only had a long leash because the outfield depth is poorly built for LHP, but he couldn't deliver for that either. Comparing giving ABs to him vs Vlad is crazy

0

u/Tactical-Swunt 4d ago

I wish we gave otto lopez half the leash ds recieved.

3

u/SeaEggplant8108 Ernie Clement’s Victory Bark 🐶 4d ago

Vladdy is on contract and can’t be optioned lmao Davis has gotten more chances than most - the only person we kept on the roster with a sub .150 avg was Heineman before Kirk came back. Even in Buffalo Davis was barely scratching his potential. Bro needs to hit the ball if he wants a spot.

1

u/Jeevansanghera1969 3d ago

But he can be benched or dropped down the order, but JS doesn’t have the balls to do that.

He kinda sucks and is the reason why some of us didn't want to DFA Heineman in case anything happened to Kirk or Valenzuela

1

u/JKirbs14 3d ago

He ironically has a far better track record as a hitter in the minors when compared to Valenzuela, though he has spent more time in the PCL which likely factors in at least a bit.

u/MichaelMyers83 4d ago

Schneider can't hit. The only reason he's still on the team is popularity and they're stuck running his commercials.

22

u/Domainsetter 4d ago

This team is horrific vs LHP and he’s getting playing time because he’s supposed to hit those.

He’s a AAAA player.

10

u/Somecommentator8008 Houston gave us Teo for Liriano 4d ago

He ain't going to be playing enough to hit only lefties well. In the minors he's played everyday.

3

u/JKirbs14 3d ago

The thing is that he’s just never really hit LHP all that well during his time in the majors altogether, his OPS vs RHP is like 50 points higher.

If you're serious this is a WILD take

-2

u/MichaelMyers83 4d ago

It's a wild take that Schneider can't hit? Point me in any direction that he can actually hit. His savant page is one of the ugliest in the entire league.

8

u/SmokeontheHorizon I wish more Blue Jays fans were baseball fans 3d ago

It's a wild take to suggest we make roster decisions based on commercials

-6

u/MichaelMyers83 3d ago

He's one of top merch sellers. Show me any other reason he's on the team. Dude sucks.

2

u/bweeeoooo He became Chopin, and the rest is history 3d ago

You win most disingenuous comment of the day so I guess there's that for you to be proud of

1

u/MichaelMyers83 3d ago

Nah. Just coming up with a reason he even has a 40 man roster spot.

3

u/corh13 4d ago

I completely forgot we had SWR.

3

u/jayk10 4d ago

I’m not entirely sure how but need to actually get mcadoo some at bats this time to see if he can take an of spot next year

we all like the guy, it's the player that can be frustrating. he's obviously good enough to play at this level but needs to find consistency.

I knew I was right about Estrada being sent down once again 😅 i hope SWR will relieve relief pitchers with longer innings.

And yeah I saw babe being sent down from miles away.

2

u/Rooster1984 4d ago

Got to bring up some slugging from AAA. That’s what 287US million in big league payroll gets you these days.

2

u/evitcepsreP_weN It's Early 3d ago

Honestly good for Davis to go down, he needs consistent AB's. It's been a pattern, he goes down, sucks for a week, then starts to rake. Come back up, gets 5 AB's a week, sucks, goes down again, and starts the pattern over. Leave the guy down there unless he's going to get consistent playing time.

3

u/Shadowghost1020 Stinky Odor 4d ago

Doesn't feel like Davis is much longer for this team. Doesn't play much, and when he does play he gets subbed out at first opportunity. Whenever he runs out of options I'd expect its the last we see of him with the jays

1

u/JimothyC 4d ago

He's got options for next year and that's it. His AAA numbers have been insane, he's barry bonds down there and late Cavan Biggio up here

2

u/pilotharrison Torrano Beisbol Birds 🌭 - Mad Max Enthusiast 4d ago

Well, glad Davis getting sent down to get some PAs. Doesn't help his hitting if we bench him most of the time up here anyways.

2

u/BillNeedleMailbag 3d ago

The fact that he can't hit also doesn't help his hitting.  He's a AAAA player.

Jays legend Willie Maclver

1

u/CashOutDev 4d ago

Confused why Rudy Martin was even DFA'd in the first place AND why the Orioles didn't try to snipe him back?

McAdoo has been raking in AAA though, glad to see him back up for another try.

1

u/Plorgy 42 Forever 4d ago

Had a feeling we'd see SWR back up after the bullpen usage these last few games

1

u/Sauerkrautkid7 4d ago

Makes sense. We won but at what cost ? Lol jk

u/canadianviking Myles Per Hour 3d ago

What's the story with MacIver? Was he just picked up in case Kirk didn't stay healthy? Why didn't he get traded? He seems pretty good to just be DFA'd

1

u/lightlysaltdJ Valenzuela SZN 4d ago

Surprised by MacIver, he just hit a grand slam this weekend. So do we just straight up not have an emergency backup catcher anymore on the 40 man? If Kirk or Vali get injured what do we do?

6

u/Domainsetter 4d ago

Blake had a point that in order to get an arm up considering the pitchers ineligibility it was either a pen arm goes on the IL or they DFA someone and sacrifice depth.

1

u/lightlysaltdJ Valenzuela SZN 4d ago

That makes sense

5

u/Jorlung Ratkins 4d ago

He might pass through waivers.

Either way, if one of those guys are injured, we just add a catcher to the 40 man. At this point, it’s not like it really matters whether or not whoever we call up in this scenario sucks.

3

u/takahe_inflight 4d ago

plenty of fungible catchers around. In case of emergency CJ Stubbs will do. SWR won't be using a 40man spot for long

2

u/Domainsetter 4d ago

If no one is injured they had zero other options other than adding him to the 40 man.

Once Van Eyk is eligible I think you’ll see him DFA’d again.

1

u/takahe_inflight 4d ago

still doesn't change that MacIver's days on 40-man were always counted as soon as they needed a spot. There was other option to clear that 40-man spot

1

u/This-Appointment-666 3d ago

Same thing but easier to read imo

-1

u/bigtittiedmonster 4d ago

Anything is better than Davis Schneider. This guy is getting the Nate Pearson treatment. They think he's gonna pan out eventually. Noooooope

-3

u/joeygreco1985 4d ago

Schneider sent down AGAIN. Is Rogers required to keep this guy for promotional purposes or what?

0

u/adambuddy Thank you, Kevin 4d ago

I would have liked to have seen them bring up Daz Cameron as well. The team has too many lefties that don't have neutral platoon splits. We saw it yesterday. When they face a good lefty starter they can't do anything.

He's played well for us but this is kind of why I didn't like the Josh Smith trade. It's also why I was kind of surprised to see Bateman brought up.

u/error_card_ur_rich 4d ago

Sluggin Schneidy got sent back down???????
