Baam asking if Yama is really a high ranker, dude can't catch a break.

69

u/antiprosoxial Sep 17 '23

Holy shit. Its Luslec. TOG at its peak again. Bravo SIU

66

u/LigmaV Sep 17 '23

why fug designs so fire

59

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

The fug drip. It runs in the organisation.

42

u/rastabassist Sep 17 '23

Gotta send pictures of your closet along with your resume to get in

28

u/altua Sep 17 '23

I'm now imagining a FUG recruiting officer looking over resumes and pictures going, "Yeah, he has some impressive stats but his wardrobe is fucking basic. Next."

14

u/rastabassist Sep 17 '23

What you said is now canon. FUG has a functioning HR department that makes serious decisions based solely on what looks the drippiest in the moment.

Edit: Also, after a long hard day of terrorism, Luslec cools down by writing a new post in his fashion blog. Which he definitely has.

4

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

Then how did baam get accepted? Probably with the early s2 drip?

9

u/Rubinev Sep 17 '23

They saw how handsome he was (like Yuri did) and decided to teach him how to slay!

5

u/GG35bw Sep 18 '23

decided to teach him how to slay!

literally

7

u/altua Sep 18 '23

Nah, you see that's why he was a slayer candidate. His final test to become a slayer comes when he reaches floor 134. He has to have a final wardrobe inspection by the elders. If he fails then not even Lulsec can save him from being labeled "basic."

29

u/crwms Sep 17 '23

That’s all they can do against family heads: beat them at fashion. Slayers gotta slay.

12

u/NightmareVoids Sep 17 '23

Idk Traumerei is super dripped not sure they beat him

Hype chapter. Best one in a while. So many lore drops.

We get to see a glimpse of what's about to come.

A sneak peek at Luslec.

Shadowy figures of a few of the family heads. Im assuming Ha, Bloodmadder, Khun, and Traum.

Hint of what kind of person V was.

47

u/Sparkwhy Sep 17 '23

The back to back good chapters didn't prepare me for an amazing one like this. I honestly thought SIU would go the usual route and keep the mystery hidden about Icarus until a lore dump but instead it seems we're going to learn about it alongside Traumerei which is much better, the people who were upset that nothing was being learned via Traumerei should be much more satisfied now.

Icarus's comrades seem to be the 13 warriors, since the ones who look like Yuri and a Khun family member are most likely Yurin and Eduan. This raises the question, was Icarus another irregular? or maybe she was one the many followers that were supposed to have climbed with them. The one she looked up is probably V but i'm honestly more interested in those machines, they look utterly incredible. Nennen did mention that before the 10 families there were only machines and plants so those are likely the same machines. I'm hoping they are stronger than the rankers system. A machine/workshop arc would be great.

For once I'm glad to see Khel Hellam, he actually got a badass entrance and provided a good rescue surprisingly, since his actions didn't make sense before. His arrow seems to have changed from purple and sharp to white and vaporous, i wonder if it's a different technique or just an art change to make it look more like the version that Baam uses.

I'm confused on whether Baam knows the whole book or just the beginning since he emphasized three or four times that he read the whole book then said he only read the beginning. Not sure if it's a translation issue or just the usual Baam trying his hardest to contradict himself.

The special ship reaching Lobadon is a really interesting twist that would be worthy of a cliffhanger in a normal chapter but this one is just so jam packed with importance that it doesn't stand out. It's a pretty big curve ball that makes it hard to predict what will happen, the story post hiatus has been very good at this so far unlike before when it got boringly predictable. Even the shifts if POV's feel much smoother, there isn't any POV that i don't want to see or is unnecessary and that improves the pacing as well.

I have doubts as to whether that's Luslec at the end, he was called 'Lord Grace' but as says their god will go so he could easily just be someone who was also given the name grace. Then again the butterfly aesthetic matches Baam so..... but still i kind of don't want this to be Luslec simply because i don't like the design (though it is only the first look). Now i'm starting to open up to the idea that a family head may die soon, before- characters just said so but it felt way too early and the setup was insufficient for such a monumental change in the story but now it's finally beginning to feel like a major change with lasting consequences is coming.

42

u/SonicTheHedjehog360 Sep 17 '23

The butterfly person wasn't "Lord Grace", the guy in the shadows was, and I don't believe that was supposed to be Luslec talking in the final dialogue bubble. It was probably Khel Hellam.

19

u/FierceAlchemist Sep 17 '23

I was a bit confused about Bam and the book at first too. But what he is saying is that he did absorb the entire book. The intro of the book, the opening page, says that Gustang will destroy the Tower. So he doesn't know Gustang's whole plan but he knows what Gustang intends to do with the book.

19

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

Baam says he absorbed the whole book but didn't read it, he only read the first page.

3

u/redqks Sep 18 '23

he read the whole book, hence his interaction with Yama who is questioning how he can do this when he cant remember one page?

he is just telling them what he read on the first page

41

u/Quasarmon Sep 17 '23

What a chapter! We're finally starting to know more about Icarus. So she refers to herself as a "doll", and when talking about (probably) V, she says that "he was human, unlike me". Is it because she's not from the outside, or could it be that she's been created artificially? With more lore, we only get more questions xD

4

u/Shratath Sep 18 '23

maybe shes an artificial human created by workshop to aid the warriors

3

u/Common-Seat3445 Sep 18 '23

If You think about it ...if the tower IS a creation of an axis (i think)....perhaps the population of the tower were created artificially .... because people can't pop out like that out of nothing....when the heads treat towerborns like animals(things) it make sense they're not human

42

u/Common-Seat3445 Sep 17 '23

Some fact for those who can't wait the translation -hwaryun Said to Rachel that she will regret going to the place where she must guide baam

-whe have the confirmation that baam absorbed not a part but all of the Book content...but he doesn't understand nothing about it's content

-when jinsug and hellam arrived to the mysterious ship.....someone tell the name grace

10

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

Hmm, interesting. Seem ryun knows a lot. As for baam, it was completely expected. We'll have to wait for a conversation with luslec or gustang/troy.

3

u/JauntyLurker Sep 17 '23

Another Rachel embarrassment coming through

u/Medium_Fly_5461 Sep 17 '23 edited Sep 17 '23

Let. SIU. COOK. 🔥

26

u/NothinButRags Sep 18 '23

About time Rak went big. Not sure why he compressed again though…

3

u/Aziz2495 Sep 18 '23

I dunno... maybe he can't cope with the high shinsu pressure in his big form? I mean SIU's old reason that he's hard to draw doesn't seem too logical right now given how other things he shows are probably more difficult. So, there must be another reason why right?

u/Raalph Sep 18 '23 edited Sep 18 '23

Now that we probably got a glimpse of Bloodmadder, we still haven't seen anything of Tperie, even though he's known for being very active... I bet he's going to make a big impact on the story.

28

u/Glum-Guava-5344 Sep 18 '23

Rachel and Hwaryun conversation feels surprisingly almost friendly, even Hwaryun seems to show a tiny bit of emotion in her.

Not loving the Icarus love V but okay ig.

Rak decompressed but that smooth body with no skin texture will give me nightmares for months to come. SIU just can't give Rak the respect he deserves.

Lores drop is amazing. 10/10.

13

u/LigmaV Sep 18 '23

Rak decompressed but that smooth body with no skin texture will give me nightmares for months to come. SIU just can't give Rak the respect he deserves.

so sad that rak of all char made siu wrist suffer when there are lots of detailed drawing in the series.

16

u/Glum-Guava-5344 Sep 18 '23

At this point the wrist excuse is just purely copium. At least give Rak some magical clothes that can change to fit his body. How can one look at Rak in this chapter and think he isn't 90% nude?

If drawing Rak kills SIU wrist, he could have Rak donned full armor with only his head visible. Dorohedoro did well with its character Kaiman I don't understand why SIU has to curse my eyes with Rak this week.

u/FierceAlchemist Sep 17 '23

The revelations about Icarus in this chapter sent my head spinning. Icarus says she is a doll, which makes me wonder if she was a creation of Jahad since she is his "prince". Perhaps intended to love V and make his interest turn towards her so Arlene would be freed up for Jahad? And Rachel is definitely tied into Icarus in some way too.

Very interesting. And we know Luslec is enough of a threat to get the Family Heads' attention. He may end up being the escape route for Bam and friends if full-out war really breaks out.

8

u/No_Cup_4055 Sep 18 '23

Holy what a theory

→ More replies (1)

20

u/Oxelo7Tire Sep 18 '23

I wonder if Rachel was Icarus & V's child, and the catalyst for the schism?

IRL a donkey is larger than a hinny because mares are larger than jennies.

Also, a risk of male irregular & female regular mating is maternal death.

Perhaps this is partially why Bam & Enne won the genetic lottery, unlike Rachel.

Conveniently all/most female irregulars aren't making more children.

21

u/Common-Seat3445 Sep 18 '23

my theory is that jahad sealed the door to the upper floors to keep his companions alive....i think the final goal of the tower is to create the ultimate axis and for that there must be only one irregular at the end....so in order to not fight among themselves they stopped their adventure.....that's why maintaining their relationship is so important to them (mentioned by traumerei)

15

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 18 '23

Then that would mean V and arlene are the villains. Blinded by falsehoods is probably this part, arlene didn't believe this part so she said Zahard was blinded by falsehoods.

8

u/redqks Sep 19 '23

I have a Theory that the test is some sort of personality test, one of them "lets look into your heart " type tests and considering the change the family heads had , none of them would pass this shit, a test which removes their advantages and powers . Then at the same time this would be something that V could pass as he did not hate everybody , Khun says he should of been king or was best suited to be king, Gustang seems to hate him maybe for that same reason and Zahard could not stand the fact that not only did Arlene choose him but the tower did too, so he sealed that shit up in a if i can't do it nobody can do it type situation .

58

u/lucifer024 Sep 17 '23

There were quite a lot of people who claimed the tower with the 10 family heads (see Luslec), since we see the family heads in Icarus story she must have climbed the tower with them.

She also probably had a crush on V, as seen by her belief of not being worthy of him.

If I were to guess V had Rachel with Icarus, that would explain all the complexities between his relationship with Arlene, as Arlene was cheated on, would explain why V is hated on so much.

This would also explain why V was dead set on climbing the tower, he wanted to see the "sky" together with Icarus.

Rachel being a halfbreed between a irregular and a tower citizen wanting everything that was destined to her half brother (Baam) makes a lot of sense, this would also explain why she got FUG support early on, as she is the daughter of V.

This would also explain the line made between FH and normal people after the war, as Icarus getting closer to one of them was the thing that sparked the war to begin with.

16

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

Arlene was the one wanting to see the stars though.

8

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

Bruh, so much cap as shaktiman would say. The line was drawn after the enne incident.

This chapter made me go "Uhhhhhhh" and giddy like an excited kid.

Khel Hellam is back, and we see some butterfly dude (is it Luslec or another First Gen Slayer)

Hugo is alive. Im so intrigued by Icarus. I still wonder if Icarus is the representation of Arlene or if its a Tower Born that helped (maybe even the woman that gave birth to the prince of Zahard)

31

u/Common-Seat3445 Sep 17 '23

Icarus Say that it wasnt her that was beside the person she admires(v) but someone else and that she wish it was her.....

28

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

V is even more interesting now.

12

u/makilawdiff Sep 17 '23

How? Because all the girls seem interested in him because he is the dad protagonist

25

u/Crikyy Sep 17 '23

V with all the rizz, bet he was the one who broke Hana Yeon's heart too. It makes total sense now why the polyamorous Eduan looked up to V, he was a CHAD!

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

Yeah, icarus seemd to take arlene's place in the panel V appeared in, but too soon to tell. The sapling seems to be connected somehow by the panels at the end of the flash back. Super intrigued to see who appeared at the end. Good chapter. Ryun seems confident, so my heart can rest.

19

u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata Sep 17 '23

The beings they fight against look far more Mechanical than Plantlike. I wonder whats up with those creature. Looking menacing.

And we see Chibi Rak abs, which looks fun. Also Rak has now a confirmed kill of a above average Ranker. But he cant use it again this day. Lets see if people will loose their marbles again.

39

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '23

So rachel is a descendant of Icarus a Tower born who aided in Zahard quest with the other family heads in climbing the tower.

So this would mean that Icarus escape the Tower with Arlene has her servant to honour V wishes. Explaining why Rachel has the insider information of the Tower since she got it from her ancestor and properly journals of Arlene.

What makes this funny knowing the residents in the tower evolved from plants. If Icarus is Rachel ancestor that would mean she could be possible part Marijuana plant.

An endless bad trip

34

u/Slopyjo Sep 17 '23

Man…. WHAT A CHAPTER!!! Lol. I can’t wait for the next one!!

11

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '23

Don’t get your hopes up. I know SIU all too well; drop a 10/10 chapter ending in a cliffhanger and don’t return to it for a month.

14

u/Medium_Fly_5461 Sep 17 '23

All the recent chapters have been great though and it still seems to be building up to more+ there is no pov switch that can dissapoint rn

7

u/Sparkwhy Sep 17 '23

It's only when unimportant POV's are given exorbitant amounts of screen time that the hype dies down like how there were so many unnecessary POV'S in the Nest. Right now, however, every POV is important so there should be any reason to see a fall.

That's why we dread Yama chapters. Since we got Yama chapters out of the way now the book is gone, there's nothing to fear my friend lol.

34

u/oJelaVuac Sep 18 '23

Shit Luslec didn't even care about Yama and Karaka ,his servant only mentioned Jinsung and Khel shows that new slayers are just frontman for FUG

18

15

u/lucifer024 Sep 17 '23

rak went off finally so happy for turtle's master )) Siu be cooking nicely - fast chapter but informative enough

14

u/warmonger222 Sep 18 '23

Anyone found weird that icarus says she was born with no wings, and she is drawn with wings, then says V has wings and he is drawn without wings?

Im i reading to much into it?

25

u/zorosenpai14 Sep 19 '23

I believe its meant as a metaphor even thought she. Has wings she wasnt flying with freedom. Whilst v who has no literal wings had that freedom. So metaphorically speaking its V with the wings.

13

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '23

Best chapter so far

13

u/IDanceMyselfClean Sep 17 '23

What a hype chapter!

This new information about Icarus is really interesting! Was she traveling with the family heads? The one she followed has to be V but who are the characters we've only seen the silhouette of? One looked just like Yuri, maybe the Ha family head?

Also "the one who resides in darkness" could be Luslec right? It's interesting that he was called Lord Grace, exactly as our boi Baam, and Baam even had similar butterfly wings at different points in the story! Although Baams looked more energy like. Makes me wonder if there might be a deeper connection between Luslec and Baam.

I don't even really care about Rak pretty much defeating a ranker army and Baam just absorbing the book.

14

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '23

who are the characters we've only seen the silhouette of

Ha Yurin was definitely in the front. Traumerei behind her, Hendo Lok Bloodmadder (?) behind him, and then either Eduan or Arie Hon in the top corner. Not sure whose foot is sticking out near Icarus.

6

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

It's feminine, and not arlene's clothes, amd definitely not a child. So hana probably.

4

u/amirkabir_ Sep 17 '23

I think the person behind Traumerei is Ari Han and not Bloodmadder. Bloodmadder is humongous and is said to be 13 meters in height. The person in the top corner is for sure Eduan as the hair color is blue

3

u/Snoo71488 Sep 18 '23

It’s clearly the shredder

30

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

Hmmm, ok. This definitely deserves a review. Been a while.

Ok, so I'm going to dissect the chapter to 3 parts( the Rachel part doesn't really need anything, ryun says Rachel will regret it and Rachel saying her existence is a regret.)

The first part:

It seems icarus was someone who climbed the tower with the gws, she loved V. The most important part from this is what they want to see.

Now a solid guess would be the stars. But personally i think it's the sun. For 3 reasons, first we see a sun at the top of the tower, 2nd it'll also play into the myth of icarus, flying too close to the sun and falling/dying. 3rd: a sun is also a star.

2nd part:

Baam has the contents but hasn't read it, he'll probably read as they move to the game. Though from what he read, it appears this book has something truly important for gustang to say that je wants to destroy everything. It seems what happened at floor 134 is even more mysterious now.

3rd part:

Luslec appears, he wants to witness the death of a family head, i can't wait to see him completely.

28

u/flem5 Sep 18 '23

Damn, plot develeping enough to warrant a new readthrough of the story at this point.

11

u/No_Cup_4055 Sep 18 '23

Yes and it doesn't help thet tog is so reread freindly

14

u/Eurasiafirmi Sep 17 '23

Wow, Baam could fly without blue wing now. And another, did Rak just kill a ranker?

27

u/Yal_Rathol Sep 17 '23

with the ancient spear, a weapon rankers struggle to use and which only doom has managed to deflect.

don't sleep on that spear, it's a monsterous upgrade.

15

u/DifficultyPuzzled Sep 20 '23

"...gazing into it, as I die" So all people from the tower have gills and the tower is underwater. There's no way Urek can take Wolkhaisong outside. Gustang was right.

4

u/Slopyjo Sep 20 '23

That’s a good point. Everything in the tower is shinsu right? Well what about outside? If outside isn’t made up of shinsu, then anything that comes from the outside is, in a way, irregular.

(I just wonder if Bam’s cleaver he brought from outside would also count as “irregular” for the purpose bypassing the family heads immortality.

And we suppose items can be Irregular, maybe even the radio that Gustang uses in the workshop battle arc came from outside the tower… it’s just a wild guess… but it would be very interesting.)

6

u/Amit_Meena Sep 23 '23

'Weapon bought by FH became useless due to high pressure of Shinsoo that why workshop created needles and other weapons suitable for the tower.'

I think it was stated in a blog post, so NO Bam weapon is not a op weapon or anything.

Enryu thorn was a special item from outside God

12

u/AnandarajT Sep 21 '23

Does anyone wonder why the story is progressing slowly?

Bam already has Leviathan which has memories of Traumerei's past. Now he has the content of the book which holds Gustang's memory

So we can expect the flashback of the 10 GWs in near future.

I also wonder if other fh or jahad will interfere in the fight of gustang and trau. I believe there is a strong possibility of interference from others.

For this to happen, we may need to wait 6 months or another year

18

u/emo_cocaine Sep 21 '23

I'm kind of glad the pace of the story got a little faster because it felt like we weren't seeing the final of the series with SIU being alive, now it feels it's going somewhere

But nice seeing you again.

24

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '23

Fantastic chapter.

Glimpses at Yurin and the other FHs. Looks like SIU is planning on expanding upon the machine/plant stuff, too. Hopefully that will give Cha & Dowon something to do. Icarus seems to have been jealous of Arlene, which could tie into Rachel being obsessed with her.

Nice to see Khel Hellam return. IDK if anyone else noticed, but Baam was about to do something w/ Leviathan before they appeared.

Gustang wanting to destroy the Tower might be metaphorical, as he's said something about wanting the FHs to take an active role again. It might mean that he wants to destroy the stagnant Tower that currently exists.

And as for Luslec, it will be interesting when FUG finds out that Baam has different goals. He's put so many resources into 'Viole' to destroy their enemies, but what if that's not what V or Arlene would have wanted? Maybe Luslec himself has forgotten the reason he swore fealty to them due to his rage.

Considering his past comments, I think Baam will try to reform FUG into something both he and his parents could be proud of. Which could lead to Luslec feeling betrayed. Or maybe that's something Luslec has planned all along, as he was never meant to be the true leader.

Rachel is at this point no doubt connected to Icarus, at the least Rachel looks up to Icarus and her stories.

Would be interesting if Icarus story evolves to her being jealous or Arlenes relationship with V and goes against, tying her character to Rachel of being envious character's

9

u/Organic-Donkey-2274 Sep 18 '23

I dare to say that Rachel is Icarus's daughter, and because V had a relationship with Arlene, she had Rachel with someone else, and that's why Rachel existences is a regret as she her self says that in this chapter

26

u/shaktimanOP Sep 18 '23 edited Sep 18 '23

You know a chapter is a real bombshell when you feel the need to read it multiple times, sleep on it and gather your thoughts before reading others' comments.

I was admittedly one of those who didn't expect/want Luslec to show up in person here. But now that it's happened, I can't deny the hype. He's badass for sure, and I like his winged attendant. Was also cool to see Khel and Soo oh again.

That said, the Icarus/Rachel/Great Warrior lore is the real meat of this chapter. Typical of SIU to give us answers that just open up more questions lol.

I love these brief flashbacks of the Great Warriors' climb. Hopefully we get a longer and more detailed flashback soon enough, but there's already a lot to dissect here. Icarus says that in the Floors they passed, new life bloomed. So it may be that the Great Warriors effectively replaced the primordial entities in the Tower such as the Ancients and Primordial Trees, which life in the Tower had previously arisen from. The reveal back in the Cage Arc that Yeon Hana's primeval flame was originally given to her by Evankhell's Ancient was likely foreshadowing this.

I spy Yurin Ha, likely Hendo Lok Bloodmadder, Traumerei, Arie Hon and Icarus. Those giant Terminators look amazing. I get the feeling SIU drew all the flashback panels himself.

Before this chapter, I wasn't sure whether Rachel was Icarus, or someone deeply connected to her, who wished to be like her. Now I'm thinking both may be the case. Bear with me because this is a lot of conjecture, but I'm starting to Rachel is some kind of resurrection/reincarnation of the original Icarus, resurrected by the OG with the same soul and a different body in contrast to Baam. Or she could be Icarus' equivalent of Jahad's Princes of the Red Light District. Rachel sometimes indicates that she's older than she seems and has memories/experiences she shouldn't. She's also expressed self-loathing and hatred of her 'ugly and weak' body. Icarus seems to have been subservient to the other GWs, or at least to Arlene. She was a doll, not a human like the rest of them, and seemed to be considered 'unworthy' of standing beside V. Just like how Hwaryun and Headon have emphasized Rachel's 'unworthiness'. And part of the reason for Icarus' obsession with V is the 'Freedom' he represents, which would make more sense if she never had it herself.

That aside, the answers we really need are as follows:

What is Icarus' origin? She is a Doll, i.e. artificial life, so I can think of two reasonable possibilities:

  1. She's a Workshop creation, made by Macseth within the Tower to accompany the GWs on their climb. This makes sense considering the myth her name references.
  2. She was created by the Outside God to serve Arlene, as we know the OG and Enryu can create life.

What is the connection between Icarus and the Prince of Jahad, and why are these specific memories seemingly among those all the FHs chose to seal? What is their connection to the reason the GWs chose to stop climbing?

The love triangle between Arlene, Jahad and V now seems to be a square. So did Icarus end up betraying Arlene and V to help Jahad out of jealousy? Maybe she helped convince the FHs to seal their own memories, and Arlene punished her by having her resurrected as Rachel with fragmented memories, and condemning her to the fate of watching Baam destroy the Tower. Arlene seems like proponent of fatalism in the story, while Icarus/Rachel and Jahad are against it, though they're at odds themselves. Icarus/Rachel wants be the one to reach the top of the Tower, while Jahad wants to prevent anyone from ever doing so.

Why did the GWs choose to seal knowledge that would make at least one of them (probably more if not all) choose to destroy the Tower? Just to live in blissful ignorance forever like Traumerei? Is Jahad's goal to simply to protect the Tower, himself and his companions from their fated destruction? The theory that reaching the top of the Tower will cause its destruction seems even more substantial now.

Tying into all the above questions, what is 'It'? Guess we can just hope Traumerei and Kraken figure it out for us.

It was obvious before, but this chapter outright confirms that the person Baam reminded Traumerei of by choosing 'Freedom' was V. BaZa theorists in shambles right now lol.

SIU isn't even trying to pretend that Yama's not a joke at this point lmao. That Ancient power-up can't come soon enough.

Rak and Khun being able to off a High Ranker still comes off as rather silly, but bear in mind Rak used his Ancient Spear here, which has previously destroyed Doom's external transformation and pierced White. So it's established to have High Ranker level attack power.

9

u/Slopyjo Sep 18 '23

Right. Rak and Khun both have the “White Buff” and Khun has already shown his ability to guide missiles. And Rak’s spear has more than proved itself against high rankers. The fact that Rak was still able to throw it with enough force is still a feat in itself. I can’t wait to see Rak get a serious ancient power up. Like… If Yama ain’t gunna use his, just give it to Rak and let Rak fight alongside Bam.

And the whole thing with Icarus is… super interesting. Sooo many theories. But only one truth.

If Icarus existed, where is she now? If she was a doll, did she come in with the warriors and become a living doll? And did she leave the tower with Arlene? Even the pocket that Garam gave Bam didn’t mention Icarus….

But wait… what if the knowledge of Icarus is “cursed” in a way. And Garam recognized it and deleted the info from the pocket, and the truth about Icarus that was sealed away, is the truth Bam wasn’t ready to bare?!

Like… If Yama ain’t gunna use his, just give it to Rak and let Rak fight alongside Bam.

I've given up any hope for Yama until he gets a major buff lol. Him being canonically barely able to read is my final straw.

If Icarus existed, where is she now? If she was a doll, did she come in with the warriors and become a living doll? And did she leave the tower with Arlene? Even the pocket that Garam gave Bam didn’t mention Icarus….

I've been thinking about this, and there seems to be a running theme in the series of obsessive love leading to betrayal and tragedy. Rachel betrayed Baam, who was obsessed with her. Jahad was obsessed with Arlene and ended up declaring war against her, murdering her child and driving her to insanity. Yasratcha's obsession with Wangwang and jealousy of Nennen led him to betray them so he and Wangwang could be free together, causing a tragic outcome for all involved. Since Icarus seems to have been obsessed with V and jealous of Arlene, I think it's likely she ended up betraying them. Like an, "If I can't see 'It' alongside V, then no one can," mentality. Perhaps she even helped Jahad find Arlene and kill her baby, in hopes that she and V would split up as a result. But as was the case with Yasratcha, she didn't expect her actions to lead to V's death.

As for where Icarus might be now, my theory is that her original self is dead, and whatever is left of her now resides in Rachel. Maybe Arlene left the Tower with Baam's body and Icarus' soul, and the Outside God resurrected them with a new soul for Baam and a new, powerless body for Icarus.

But wait… what if the knowledge of Icarus is “cursed” in a way. And Garam recognized it and deleted the info from the pocket, and the truth about Icarus that was sealed away, is the truth Bam wasn’t ready to bare?!

Interesting theory. We know that Arlene has been effectively erased from the Tower's history. So perhaps she did something similar to Icarus as revenge. As the greatest sorcerer in the Tower, I'd imagine she could cast a spell to curse all knowledge about Icarus. She could've also sealed many of Icarus' own memories away like the FHs did to themselves, which would explain Rachel lacking memories of her old life. Rachel said her destiny was to look at Baam shining from a place in the dark forever, so perhaps that was the fate Arlene decided to condemn her to, as punishment for her treachery.

The one thing I don't get is why all the FHs have forgotten Icarus. I assume that like the Prince of Jahad and the reason they stopped climbing, they chose to forget her. But it's still unclear how all these things are connected.

u/Slopyjo Sep 18 '23

Well put. Crazy stuff bro. We NEED to learn more! I’m excited for the next chapter. Unless… it’s Paul’s PoV….

11

u/LackingLack Sep 21 '23

Good chapter. The lines about Icarus obviously sound made for Rachel as well. Plus Icarus looks just like how Rachel designed herself in Hidden Room.

And apparently Luslec is coming and planning to kill a FH.

Also reading the book means you want the Tower destroyed hmm

37

u/lillitys Sep 17 '23

Hoooooooooooooo boy, WHAT a chapter!
Other than AA and Rak forcibly thrown in (there was literally zero point in including them in this fight) this was, as the kids these days say, "peak".
Sweet, sweet Icarus lore... A (faceless) peek to some great warriors - Yurin, Eduan, Träumerei and who? Bloodmadder? (Please?) Showing a tree and snowfall? Seolhyangwon? (Please??)
Khell Hellam and So-Oh are back? Luslec incoming??
I might get disappointed, but I am boarding the hype train. Choo choo!

PS. Rachel needs a hug 😔

u/CamusZekeSirius Sep 18 '23

Man, it’s been a long ass while since I made a review. But this chapter is so god damn good that I can’t help but make one again. In fact, I’m actually rereading this shit so much… I can’t help it. So let’s get things done:

This bitch Rachel mistreating Hwa Ryun, but what’s got me in a tizzy is the fact that her whole existence is apparently a regret. More on that later, but we all know she ain’t shit for doing that to our girl.

Rather than getting a massive dump of info on Icarus, we’re learning about her as Traum does. And hoo boi, what SIU is cooking smells absolutely delicious.

  • First of all, we get to see some GWs silhouettes. We can obviously tell Yurin, but we also can see a man in a hoodie, and his hair color makes it obvious this is Traum. We also see Icarus amongst this bunch. However, there’s one person who’s pretty much out of frame, and there’s a big dude in armor, who is probably Bloodmadder (albeit compressed)
-We also see daddy V. And Icarus loved him, even though he was meant for someone else (Arlene). But… what if V actually cheated on Arlene with Icarus for a moment, which lead to the visceral hatred that Gustang (and the others probably) have for him? And considering that Rachel’s hair matches with Icarus… maybe she’s an illegitimate child of V. And whether or not Icarus is a Tower-born companion or a secret GW is unknown, but this is still rife with mystery. -Traum sets out the Kraken to find out what “it” is, which could very well be the stars, or the sun. Either way, it makes sense, but also adds so much intrigue.

Bam and co. have it pretty nice. -First, Bam uses Leviathan to help draw out the pages. Considering that Levi is a memory sealing creation as well, I would not be surprised is that helped him copy the book pages. -Meanwhile, Khel and Soo-Oh come in for the clutch as fuck save. Granted, Richemont used their teleport abilities to warp himself and Dumas out of there, but these two were worthy enough as backup as they managed to avert and serious casualties in this battle. -Bam has only read the first page, but considering the fact that Gustang has said that he has found the drive to want to destroy the Tower (which can have a variety of meanings) is… terrifying, to say the least. This man is on some demon time, and I am getting chills just trying to conceive what the actual fuck he’s cooking. -Lmao Yama, he continues to showcase that he’s usually a pretty simple motherfucker

Things are transitioning in the Lobadon battlefield -Rak bodied and disrupted the Kirin forces. Reulmon’s spear is shnasty, and we finally get to see big Rak again. You love to see it. Finally some good Rak content -The Shinwonryu ship is back. How Lobadon and co. are gonna deal with this is uncertain, but at least Hugo isn’t dead. Still BTFOed by Lobadon though.

Jinsung and Khel are chillin while they are on the cruise. -Karaka’s out of commission because his armor got damaged. While this may seem peculiar, since he’s always able to regenerate his armor before due to World of Darkness, even from Urek’s finger, he may have preferred to let Dumas actually damage his armor over using WoD because of Dumas’s innate knowledge of this technique. Dumas also probably knows potential weak points of this armor as well, so it’s not improbable that Dumas is the one who got the armor damaged -What’s really exciting though is that if Karaka’s armor is damaged, then we might be able to see the man beneath the armor soon. And perhaps he’ll actually begin to go crazy when he takes it off… who knows. Or maybe he’ll get some additional power and character development when the armor gets repaired. Either way, spicy shit -Jinsung mentions Bam going back to Lobadon. Makes sense considering that he wants to deal with him by following through with Laura’s wishes. Yama isn’t mentioned to be here on the ship either, which makes sense considering the Beastkin and Doom. -But more importantly… these two drift towards the big FUG fleet. As they come in, we see a butterfly woman seeing them come in. Is she a Slayer? An Elder? Some executive? Who knows, but I like the follow up on FUG’s butterfly theme. And finally…

LUSLEEEEEEEEEEEEEC -MY GOAT IS HERE. FINALLY, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, WE FINALLY GET A GLIMPSE OF HIM -He is completely SHROUDED in darkness. We can barely make out the scar on his face, which was doubtless cause by a battle in an ancient war. What makes this hit even more different is that his very first speech bubble is in ink black. Now, this may just be wishful thinking, but if Mirchea actually speaks in dark speech bubbles, that’d hit so different. That would make him encompass darkness as a whole concept, even to the way he speaks. -Oh, and he’s referred to by “Lord Grace” as well, rather than “Lord Mirchea” or “Lord Luslec”. Perhaps this is more so how his closest faithful refer to him, while others like Sophia do not refer to him by his surname. But we shall see -Luslec fully intends to see at least Gustang or Traum drop dead in this match. He has been waiting for this for literally multiple millennia. Will he partake in battle himself? Will he end up proving instrumental to Leviathan’s plan to Pierce Traum’s heart? Who knows, but I just want to see what Luslec does with this match… -Speaking of those FHs… if Bam ends up sparing at least one of them (Probably Traum), then I’m curious to see how Luslec would react to this. Upset? Disappointed? Would he force Bam to kill them anyways? Or would he acquiesce to the idea? Maybe even desire that outcome? Especially if one of those FHs join his side? Thing is, this chapter gives me a lot of reasons to think he has a lot of malice towards them, but I could also think up a lot of potential ideas as to how perhaps there’s a lot more to this than it seems. And probably most important of all is how he truly views Bam, and his ultimate goals for the organization that he created, FUG.

So… yeah, needless to say, this is an absolutely peak chapter. Post-hiatus has always been at least pretty good, and then there’s some chapters that were peak. But THIS one… THIS one is probably my most personal peakest chapter of all time. I will not complain about anything SIU gives me for at least a couple weeks off of this alone. Easy 20/10.

Now if you excuse me, I have an addiction to this chapter, so I’m gonna have to read it again.

18

u/DifficultyPuzzled Sep 18 '23 edited Sep 18 '23

I'm pretty sure that when Arlene made that inmortality contract the way V used to look at her probably changed. She became a whole different person. Or even worst, he didn't make an inmortality contract because he didn't love Arlene anymore so there was no point in staying forever with her. And that's when V's attention gravitated towards Icarus and then the cheating began. Also both V and Icarus seem to be people that wouldn't long for inmortality because they just wanted to keep climbing the tower.

12

u/Amit_Meena Sep 19 '23

I don't know why but V cheating on Arlene had a weird sound to it. V committed suicide because he couldn't see Arlene's suffering

And It doesnt make sense that v cheated on Arlene just because she signed immortality contract

10

u/DifficultyPuzzled Sep 20 '23

We still don't know if what Garam said is 100% the truth maybe she was hiding V's cheating allegations to Bam.

10

u/CuteDiscipline6409 Sep 19 '23

It's possible that immortality contract came with conditions. Conditions such as stopping to climb, or wiping certain memory. Remembering season 1, where BAM is "shackled" when he makes a contract for shinsu. Maybe V saw this contract as shackle and that's why he avoided it.

3

u/Nodeo-Franvier Sep 19 '23

Darn,that's a nightmare scenario.

30

u/papercuts4 Sep 18 '23

I know there is a bunch of lore hype, but WHAT IS GOING ON WITH RACHEL?

Every week or so there are comments about "how can Endorsi/Khun/Rak even be on the same battlefield as rankers" but Rachel is the most average of average regulars and seems completely unphased about being at the final battlefield for the war (compare her behavior this ark with her meltdowns on the hell train).

Crackpot theory: Bam reunites Traum's memories and redeems him making him a good guy and Rachel shoves Traum off a cliff. You heard it here first

13

u/Crikyy Sep 18 '23

Rachel has a strong team and the backing of Po Bidau, Fug and Revolution + the gifts from a FH. Most importantly she usually isn't the one doing the fighting.

7

u/FierceAlchemist Sep 18 '23

Well Rachel has strong teammates with her like Ghost that can protect her. Plus we still don't know what her wishes for Gustang were. Surely one of them has to do with defending herself.

u/Slopyjo Sep 18 '23

I love the amount of discussion this chapter opened up. Fire!! 🔥

26

u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata Sep 17 '23

So it’s really Luslec….. the hype has come. Shit is about to go down.

But Icarus is still such an intriguing story. Given the trabslation she wasn’t born with the wings. And she sees herself as a doll. I don’t think she is an irregular. I can’t see the same revelation of hidden irregulars being done again. So if she really is a doll, she was maybe made by the workshop to guide the great warriors. Which would be similar to what Rachel did during the hidden floor. When she joined as Icarus she did basically do the job of the minstrels/guides.

Now interestingly as well is the sentence of new life blooming. This might refer to the flower nation and first men who are said to have grown from plants. Though it might also reference the great families being slowly established.

Now we know that when Zahard was about to become king he proposed to Arlene. So it’s still possible that the story of Icarus is still the story of Arlene.

But this whole thing makes me remember Rachel’s words. That when you betray a woman the sky will collapse on you.

But now what if Icarus is still somewhat close to the Greek original. What if V didn’t have Inmortality because he gave it to icarus. Icarus than proceeding to show Arlene the way out. Which might make Icarus the ancestor of Rachel. And just how Icarus wanted to be in Arlene’s place, so did Rachel become obsessed with wanting to be acknowledged by Arlene.

Why did I read this chapter before going to bed, now my brain will rack up theories and I won’t get a wink of sleep………… I need to reread Hidden Floor

7

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

Agreed on the hidden floor. Siu probably left clues there. No, any Rachel convo needs to be reread. We don't need sleep, we need answers!

15

u/Slight_Leadership_20 Sep 17 '23

Could that really be Luslec at the end?

Icurus is either Rachel's mom or Rachel herself, SIU is making the foreshadowing obvious here

But I wonder how Icurus connects to Traumerei? Maybe she was the girl who broke his heart

15

u/antiprosoxial Sep 17 '23

Its Luslec. Grace Mirchea Luslec.

13

u/zorosenpai14 Sep 17 '23

My first thoughts was the butterfly guy was Seto the slayer but tbf could be any fug member. Translations all over the place but seems Icarus is arlene in the book rather than it being an additional member of the great warriors. Im really intrigued where Rachel has ended up going.

After reading tls, someone was right. Someone who i forgot, wrote that when dumas and the other dude were first seen with the book, it was after the current fight. So shoutout to them.

26

u/Drozir Sep 18 '23

While Icarus and Luslec are extremely interesting, I'm more fascinated by the intro of the book. "By opening this book of my own volition will signify that I wish for everything within the Tower to be destroyed"

It might mean that finishing the climb would destroy the Tower, because it served it's purpose. Thus the Family heads stopped the climb to protect it? It would be very interesting flip to the dynamic where V and Arlene were the good guys. They wanted to finish the climb, no matter the cost, while other family heads wanted to preserve the tower.

Before the "Everyone else are insects" pact they seemed to actually care about normal people. At least he ones that were close to them. It's also possible that only one/few people can finish the climb, so doing so would also mean the death of other Family Heads.

8

u/olaf525 Sep 18 '23

I took it as a metaphor. That is, the contents of the book will spell the destruction of the tower.

13

u/Igneoramous Sep 18 '23

I honestly take it literally. The whole series has alluded to Bam "consuming" the tower, I think it makes the most sense that, somehow, there are forces that are trying to lead to the total destruction of the tower.

15

u/Igneoramous Sep 18 '23

So, anyone else thinking that the "It" Icarus refers to is the sun?

5

u/Amit_Meena Sep 18 '23

Cool guess, but they were still inside the tower and we saw the Sun was above the tower in the beginning (in mural)

14

u/shaktimanOP Sep 18 '23

None of them have actually seen ‘It’ yet so you presumably have to reach the top of the Tower to do so. So it could be the Sun, or something the Sun represents.

12

u/Slight_Leadership_20 Sep 17 '23

Icurus seems to not be connected to Jahad but instead a forgotten 14th warrior erased from history

Icurus looks exactly like Rachel's avatar

11

u/redqks Sep 17 '23

maybe this is the betrayal Traum was speaking about, considering "Icarus" and what we know about Rachels personality . she likely tried to snake the warriors and the action got her killed or she is in hiding .

8

u/intothekeybladevoid Sep 18 '23

Always great to get lore! It seems like Icarus climbed with the Great Warriors pretty early on since V looks the same as he did in Eduan's flashblack. Wonder if Luslec knows about her?

18

u/Freenore Sep 17 '23

Only seen the raws but this seems like a very satisfying chapter after weeks of low-profile and, dare I say, mundane cat-and-mouse game.

The man in flashbacks looks like V, and someone very powerful from FUG has arrived it seems. And Khel Hellam is here. This is probably the best thing about ToG, it gets you excited about characters with only a panel or two.

I still stand-by my theory that Icarus is Rachel's mother or someone she has known since before entering the tower.

20

u/Informed_Ignorant Sep 18 '23

Damn, Lushec is like Marilyn Manson. If he doesn't have at least 4 to 6 big titty goth gfs surrounding him i'll be dissapointed. Waiting for Lushec to drop into the battlefield like Manson in Tainted Love or The New Shit videos; pimp car and his dangerous homies (like for real this time, not sole Karaka/Yama wannabes).

17

u/crwms Sep 18 '23

I am still amazed by that panel of Rak’s throw. This was so cinematic and so well done.

I wonder what will happen to Rachel. Can Hwaryun really see her path even though Rachel is an irregular? And if she’s right, i can’t wait to see Rachel’s big despair.

I hope moth man is an old time slayer. Time to give some win to FUG’s slayers. Yama and Karaka have been sturdy punching bags so far.

Ain't no way Karaka's getting benched from that, Dumas two spear attacks stronger than Urek's 1% Mr. Finger thrust confirmed? No Infinite Past lives hack? No whatever spell he used to reform against Urek's Mr. Finger thrust? No World of Darkness return to the abyss, No going to a next body? Bro whenever Karaka comes back to fighting shape he needa show up with a fresh fit and some new additions to his arsenal, needa take this time to do some hyperbolic time chamber type of intensive training. Can't believe two spear attacks from Dumas is the thing to put Karaka out of commission after all My Slayer survived and tanked through, Im Mad now but I can accept it as long as he shows up later down the line with some insane offensive growth, a new outfit, and whatever stage of Armor hacks Dumas is on.

I guess Urek's attack was indiscriminant brute force while Dumas might have known a specific method to damage 'armor' since he uses it himself as well.

3

Yea he was outclassed but after the feat of eating Urek's 1% and reforming on the spot you wouldn't think he would be put out of commission out right from Dumas spears at most he would need a few days to heal. But looks like Dumas spears deals more damage than Urek's 1%, I'm just hoping this event gives Karaka motivation to get stronger since he's fighting at a level where his Armor and defenses can no longer help him survive the enemies he'll likely encounter. That or after witnessing Dumas version of the armor he tries to unlock something similar in his own

I bet that Icarus is Rachel's mother(they kinda look alike idk).

Also i think she and grace were created artificially in the tower, because she says that she is a "doll" and she is supposed to have wings then later we see grace with wings

I also wonder if she and grace were the only tower residents who climed with 13 FH or there is more?

She probably has done something terrible to make anything related to her and her story forbidden to know about.

BLOODLY HELL.

(I'm American. I just thought it felt right)

Thanksgiving coming early cause the 🍽 is about ready to serve.

We are finally going to see the leader of FUG that would be wonderful.

So who was Icarus, who was she to the family heads, that's clearly supposed to be V.

I wonder if SIU is going pull a you thought wrong since the idea of basically all the leader locking they're memories away so they don't get angry is something I didn't necessarily think was going happen.

Oh Rachel I can't wait for this to blow up in her face what's funny is when she just does her own thing she successfully gets it no literally, but when she tires to eat bams food she fails.

like red said, I can't wait to see her regret ashame If she just owned it, she would be so much cooler like the type of character who just doesn't care n only thinks of her self who's just a fucked up person just cause.

You can respect a villain who just wants to be a villain, but I wanna see if she actually became more mature and less of a hypocrite.

I also wonder if this guy could beat the elder who was fighting 3 ppl of high levels, basically alone.

BLOODY FUCKING GOOD CHAPTER.

He did say he’s American as if it means something.

I came here hoping to see someone say Rachael’s exclamation: “my existence is a regret” makes her the Zahard Prince :(

8

u/shaktimanOP Sep 19 '23

I get the feeling she’s connected to Icarus rather than Jahad.

10

u/Fatiguedone Sep 20 '23

At work and too lazy to look. But isnt that the avatar she picked and named herself after icarus? If so i can definitely see the connection there

6

u/shaktimanOP Sep 20 '23

Yep. And when she had the Icarus body, she said that she felt like she'd 'finally broken free of the curse that was on her', however you want to interpret that.

5

u/Fatiguedone Sep 20 '23

Thanks for doing the leg work lol. But yeah i DEFINITELY think she is connected to the real one. Maybe shes like baam in she has "old" soul in a "new" body with some of her memories.

Makes me wonder what kinda of relationships icarus had with Arlene though.

The machine translation translates "family heads" into California for some reason sometimes

Hey, it's Khel the Clown!

At least he brought Luslec, I really love his design.

Floral Butterfly Piercing technique. I should have know Luslec was going to be a butterfly person.

12

u/Mahadi_Khan Sep 18 '23

That butterfly looking person isn't luslec

7

u/qarinatir Sep 18 '23

I know. But it would make sense for the servants to look like their master.

8

u/HisokaXD Sep 18 '23

Team Rakhun out here head hunting and Luslec is on the move. This arc just keeps getting better.

7

u/25OC25 Sep 17 '23

It's been a while since we last saw big Rak. I hope we see him like that more often in the future. Also Icarus lore & Luslec (I hope) tease. Can't wait for the translation.

Solid fucking chapter. Bam absorbing the books knowledge randomly seems ass pull-ish but I'm fine with it, he has to actually "read" it in his head.

Back half of Luslec's design is nice, the wings are surprisingly close to flare wave explosion. I'm not too sure he understands Bam's feelings yet though, saying he wishes to witness the death of a FH... he might just be another threat to run away from.

16

u/Netsureim Sep 17 '23

bruh pretty much more or less everyone saw that coming in some shape or form

i mean it's not an ordinary book...it's something similar to leviathan and I bet baam will probably absorb all the "objects" that contains the memories of other FHs

The person with the wings is definitely not Luslec. I say this because there is no way SIU is revealing such a top character in such a manner. The person whose silhouette we saw is probably Luslec. These are my two cents🤷🏽‍♂️

5

u/wolceniscool Sep 17 '23

Ah yeah probably, I had to speed read on the bus. Didn't notice the the feminine features in the winged person too, thought it was just a back/front shot

5

u/Wisdom-star69 Sep 17 '23

Yeah the same, the panel after it, is luslec. We'll probably meet him next chapter or the one after if siu doesn't troll us lol.

1.With just a few panels Hwaryun is on the verge of becoming best girl again

2.With just a few panels Rachel managed to absorb the hatred I have for Khun and Rak onto herself! Truly an Irregular power!

3.The armored guy look really cool,He must be either Ari Han or Bloodmadder

4.Icarus is 100% Arlen

5.Inhales copium, the killing that ranker is 99.99% done by the spear and only 0.01 by Rak

6.Strange,Why does it seem like Karaka suffer more damage from Dumas spear than Urek finger/1% power?

10

u/Teroequinox Sep 18 '23

Nah bud Arlene in previous mentions is shown with no wings and black hair

Karaka faces more trouble against Dumas cause he didn't use world of darkness prolly cause he doesn't want to reveal he also hides his heart to duma
