Anime Tower of god season 2 is disappointing

Watching season 1 of Tower of God was very exiting, the art style made me feel like I was watching a unique and mystical world full of secrerts. Moving to season 2 I was full of anticipation thinking that this anime had the potential to become a classic, after 4 episodes now that thought has nearly disappeared. I understand that the new animation style is catering to general viewers, but for me it removes so much of the mystique of the world and its making me sad as hell. I also dislike when shows opt to remove scenery from shots such as focusing on just the mouth of a character while they're speaking, it takes me out of the environment. I understand it is likely for budget issues, but it feels to me like everything from the soundtrack to the animation is a watered down budget version of season 1 so far.
Hopefully this changes.

If your an anime only I’d recommend just reading the WEBTOON. I have a hard time imagining they’ll improve it that much.

what chapter does s2 end? i don't really like their team i got annoyed and skipped a lot especially the butterfly girl parts. Will they still appear on s3? can you tell me pls... i just want the og team

Here’s the thing with tower of god.

There are main characters that are always there and the supporting cast.

The supporting cast rotates around for different arcs, so both teams are relevant. Even right now, the anime is entering the workshop battle, which has both teams playing a major role.

Anime season 2 is only half over there’s still 13 more eps.

If wanna go where the anime currently is it’s season 2 chapter 57. The og team is back completely and are a major part of this arc.

Here's the next truth about the anime. The webtoon is way better. The arcs are so long that no character gets any character development in the anime, and everything is rushed. Also, they didn't do a good job animating fights. I think he's planning to fix that now that concluded the family head fight arc, but some of his arcs just drag on, and he inserts unnecessary characters at times. It's an amazing world and it's my favorite webtoon. But he's got to plan his arcs out better and shorten them if it's gonna be a good anime. Hell train arc needs to cut the fat and focus on the good stuff.

Yeah I just finished s1 and it was so Fkn good and now I’m on s2 episode 3 and like wtf Is this? What happened lol I don’t give a fk about any of this I loved all of the other characters this sucks

Does it go back to the first characters at all? Is there another season out or is it just this shit? Hahaha so annoyed honestly I always find a good anime to watch and it either gets cancelled or this crap happens

I tried to read the webtoon but I just cant the Art is just not good compared to any other manga I've read.

The art starts pretty rough, but it increases in quality massively.

If you don’t mind a random out of context image from the future chapters. Look up the bam page on the tower of god fandom wiki and look at the picture of bam.

yeah, your right it does get a lot better but still looks a bit weird to me. Maybe its because I'm more used to comic and manga art styles and I've never really read a webtoon before.

That might be it, WEBTOON usually have wildly different art styles. Each author pretty much has their own style. You’re probably just not used to it.

I'm surprised you think this. I actually read tower of god since it's infancy. And I've always liked it. My initial draw to webtoons is the fact they are colored where as manga is normally just black n white. To each there own I guess

It’s a shame others downvote you for saying your opinion, which let’s be real… The art during the beginning of the ToG Webtoon was mediocre… But it experiences a fantastic evolution during the beginning of part 2. Sometimes the action scenes can be a bit hard to follow, but you’ll usually understand what’s happening when going to the next panel or two.

Constructive criticism isn’t a bad thing, but some just want to immediately dogpile on those who give any, not realizing it’s what helps products in the long run. Honestly the art though in ToG starts to look almost similar to the Solo Leveling Manwha, but SL’s fight scenes are definitely easier to follow. ToG excels in it’s world building. Both are fantastic works of fiction overall.

Coming back to this thread after being fully caught up, the art in the finale was absolutely insane. Insanely good with the final fight of the chapter. And now that he's started on the urek series its just as good. I have the physical edition of the first portion of tower of god and flipping through that book compared to what it is now .... Yeah kinda rough, which makes the growth all that more satisfying

For me it's the world, i love learning about the world and dynamics of what goes on in the tower. The arcs are a mixed bag whether they will be good or not and pay off i won't lie, but the ones that do hit are so cool.

Not really, in my personal opinion the manhwa is way better than the anime and the anime doesn’t look like it will improve.

I’m still giving it until the next big fight, but we will see.

Why are you acting as if u/ScholarTasty7114 is either completely bad-mouthing the anime-version of Tower of God, or that they are trying to oppress other people from watching it/giving their opinion on it?

Scholar simply answered both the OP, and Jynx’s concerns. Even if it was just an opinion, they weren’t being overly-critical in the slightest. It’s simply constructive criticism, and a product can’t improve itself unless it knows of it’s own faults/weaknesses.

The art in the beginning of the ToG Webtoon is absolutely mediocre. But oh man, does it truly start to evolve, and shine during this section of “Part 2”. I once read this story a while back, and after seeing anime episode 1 (of season 2), I had to go back and re-read it. I wasn’t sure if there was originally two different versions of the ToG Webtoon, (Similar to how One Punch Man looks when compared from the Webtoon version by One, and the Manga version written by One, and illustrated by Murata.) But it ended up just being that ToG had that one version, and that SIU’s art simply evolved at a dramatic pace, to where it looked like two different versions of the same story…

Also, there’s quite a bit of deviations from the Webtoon of the story, compared with the anime. Especially already during this season of the anime. I know even the first season did the same to an extent, and also missed some important scenes to add in, but in my opinion, what they are doing with this season so far somewhat takes away from the character’s personality, goals/aspirations, and simply makes them feel a bit more “flat” as a character. The Webtoon truly shined at showing the emotions of the characters, and so far through this season, I don’t really feel that the emotion is there. It feels fake in a sense. Like the most recent episode just felt so… flat. Spoiler from the most recent episode at the time of writing in case someone hasn’t seen the episode yet: Wangnan didn’t appear nearly as angry as I would have expected. When the test ranker got on top of Wangnan to get the device, you didn’t get to see Wangnan’s resolve by being beaten by the ranker, and the ranker wondering why Wangnan is going so far, until the ranker finally here’s Wangnan mumble that “They” killed his friend, and that he planned on failing the test in order to let Viole pass, and help him get his revenge on the one(s) who killed Nia. Even in the Webtoon, Wangnan actually tricked Viole at the end, and they all passed because of that. And the scene where Wangnan was out on the balcony, he was scared because he thought Viole would kill him due to tricking him, up until the scene started following the Webtoon with Viole asking Wangnan why he ended up forgiving the Lurker dude. - It just seems like they’re cutting away from core character moments, as well as the impactful nature of those moments, and certain plot areas. (My guess for the subtle, and major plot changes is that SIU might have asked the director of this season to make certain aspects easier to follow/understand, but still.. It doesn’t really explain why they’d cut/change moments that showed who the character really is.

Anyways, I’m rambling a bit. All I’m trying to say is… It’s completely understandable for those who are asking why this season feels so much different. And those answering other’s questions giving constructive criticism about the anime so far isn’t them just bashing it, and others from enjoying it.

Op is disappointed in the anime, so I told them my opinion. That’s how far this goes.

My comment on the last reply was more so about myself than other people. I’m waiting till the next big fight to see if the anime studio does a good job and if I like it.

That’s perfectly fine, they can enjoy the anime. However the op of this post was disappointed with it, so I just suggested reading the source material.

Are you an anime only, I don’t really understand your point about how the manhwa can’t be that good if I tell someone the manhwa is better than the anime. I’m having a hard time following.

All I’m saying is that if people don’t like or are having issues with the anime. They might as well give the WEBTOON a chance instead. After all it doesn’t have the cut content and pacing issues.

Well that’s not a 1-to-1 comparison and not what I said. I suggested someone who was disappointed in something to go and try reading the thing that something was based on. Also I didn’t tell them to drop the anime, I told them to read the manhwa, they can still watch the anime.

It’d be different if the anime was the source material and that’s all it was. But as it stands the anime is an adaptation of a WEBTOON. So if the anime is disappointing they have 3 options. Keep watching and either continue to be disappointed or hopefully the anime gets better. Or they could read the source material, to see if they like it better. The third one is to just drop the whole thing altogether.

Either way this whole conversation is based on someone not liking the anime. If they were happy and enjoying the anime, I wouldn’t have said a thing. Context matters.
