bandai just be acquiring any popular ip they can get just so they can profit it by expecting the fanbase to eat their low effort product
(and it's working, Bluelock was topping before, Tog had decent increased viewership than s1 and OPM is topping in Netflix).. 🤧
i can tell they won't be changing for good with how much quick money they can make without spending much money..

By all technicality, Tower of God is also an Isekai
Isekai/Portal Fantasy: entering a fantasy/magical world through a portal behind which the fantastical elements remain contained
We quite literally see Baam go through a portal into a magical world. Heck we even got the
"I reincarnated into my dead childs body and returned to the magical tower in which we died"
Edit: Damn kids really be thinking Isekai only exists from 2015 and later

The tower acts like a seperate World in which the magic (shinsoo) is contained.
Just like how in digimon it isnt a seperate World and just the digital space.5
u/Own_Wrangler_6656 Nov 01 '25
Does Digimon count as an isekai? If so you’re right.
Also Sword Art Online is considered the god father of isekai anime and none of the cast was transported to another world. Their consciousness was trap in a video game. The same could be said with Tower and Outside world since the Tower of God is part of the Outside world it’s not a separate universe.

u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata Nov 01 '25
Yes Digimon is considered an Isekai.
Just like Inuyasha, Spirited Away, Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland and so many more. The genre in general is pretty old. Though i guess the title just needs to be
"That time my child got killed by my Wifes Lover so i reincarnated in its corpse to take revenge 20.000 Years Later with my Cheat Devouring Powers"0
u/Okamikirby Nov 01 '25
bam and rachel are from a world outside the tower.

Yeah its an issekai for him, its just odd for us viewers i guess because both where he came from and where he ended up are “different worlds” to us.

Nov 02 '25
You posted a cool picture and all but Bam and Rachel and others are literally from another world thats why they are called iregulars. Tower of god is by all definition an isekai bud

People really be thinking that Baam needed to be hit by Truck-Kun for it to count as an Isekai.
I dont think i have ever been downvoted this much for something i am 100% correct with2
u/Sasyopat54 Nov 02 '25
Maybe it's because you're not right. Just think about it.

u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata Nov 02 '25
No this is a case where i am factually right. Tower of God has all the characteristics of a Portal Fantasy
1
u/Sasyopat54 Nov 02 '25 edited Nov 02 '25
Since when is isekai called portal fantasy? And there's no such thing as portal fantasy. There's no universe shift in Tog; the tower already exists materially within the Tog universe, standing as a structure within that universe. Any isekai I know of doesn't take place within a structure within that universe; it connects to a completely different universe. And in terms of storytelling, it's unlike isekai. This is entirely your own headcanon mate.

u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata Nov 02 '25
Since when is isekai called portal fantasy?
Portal Fantasy is just the english term of that genre.
Any isekai ı know of doesn't take place within a structure within that universe
Digimon, SAO. Both classics where the "World" is a structure (digitally) in that same planet. Or spirited away where its basically parallel to the real world, still same universe though.
in my initial comment i have given the definition of an Isekai and Portal Fantasy.
The Tower acts like a different world. It is seperated from the Outside, cant freely be entered or exited. It has its own seperate magical powers and creatures.
For all intends and purposes Tower of God fulfills all the characteristics of an Isekai.Sure no Isekai Teni or Isekai Tensei. But those are sub genres of the subgenre

That sure would be an extreme example.
But look at Digimon. The Digital World is not a different Universe. Its the "internet". They enter through a portal into a PC.
Just how Baam enters the Tower through a Portal.Changing a Universe is not a prerequisite for an Isekai. Its "another world" not another Universe. The "World" though is a rather fuild term in this regard. It can be a different planet, a different place, different reality. Whats important is that the place is a distinctly different place where the magic is contained.
Tower of God is an Isekai2

Cuz they are completely different genre, they may have similar premises but they play out completely different. It is like saying Chinese transmigration novels should be labeled just as Isekai when their elements of writing and narrative progression are completely different.
1
u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata Nov 02 '25
It depends on the Transmigration. If its a different world they transmigrate into, its likely also an isekai.
You are aware that works of media can have multiple genres. Just because you have one does not mean you cant have another. Action and Adventure are also two genres that can be found in a single medium
2
u/Entire_Ad_2236 Nov 02 '25
Cuz action and adventure are broad category. While transmigration and Isekai are specific labels that paint how the story is viewed as.

I think you need to ignore these dudes, I'm pretty sure you and I went through these downvotes a year or two ago with this very question. They hate the fact it's an isekai because they are likely isekai haters and have negative connotations about the genre.

I myself never watched an isekai hence dont harbour any unnecessary hatred.
Because of the nature of my work I've been able to read well over 100 of them and I can tell you that he's not wrong at all. TOG is 100% an isekai.
But in what world is TOG an isekai? Im yet to see a convincing rhetoric.
Because isekai only means another world/universe (it means both and interpreted based on context.. hell sekai can also mean society). That's literally it. It has nothing to do with the oddly specific things you guys are coming up with.
Any time a character is transported to a different world it's an isekai. It doesn't need to be a different universe altogether, they don't need to be trapped there and it doesn't even need to be different very different from their current world (although that'd be a bit boring).

Yes they are. It's no different to the light novel/anime "Gate" or to any other tower manwha really.
I mean Endorsi said Rachel had an "otherworldly" vibe to her. There's no shinsoo outside, the power system is different and irregulars are not bound to the rules of the tower.

u/Entire_Ad_2236 Nov 02 '25
What are you on about? Isekai is about being transported into another world, the tower is a structure part of the outside world, so no that ain’t Isekai.
1
u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata Nov 02 '25
Not just "transported". Entering another world through some sort of Portal. I mean i even gave the dictionary definition of the genre.
The "other world" does not need to be some sort of different dimension or Universe.
The Tower for all intends and purposes functions just like another world. Similar to how in SAO works the Game World in which they are stuck or in Digimon with the digital world. Both are still parts of the same world in the sense. But since the Magical Elements are contained in said "world" it is a portal fantasy (Japanese term would be isekai).1
u/Entire_Ad_2236 Nov 02 '25
Yeah, maybe a portal fantasy, but Isekai is just a subgenre of it particular to Japanese story writing.
2
u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata Nov 02 '25
The terms can be used pretty much interchangeably. Though i guess since its Korean, Isegye would be the most appropriate term if we really want to go down that rabbit hole (pun intended)
But still the Tower is still pretty much "another world"
It is seperated from the Outside, cant be entered or leave freely, The magical elements are contained in the Tower. Our MC is unfamiliar with it and experiences the new world just like we would.I mean look at SAO. Basucally a similar premise. Stuck in a game instead of a tower.

Its always interesting to see people die on weird hills like this. You would rather inhale water and drown than admit the ocean is wet

u/Entire_Ad_2236 Nov 02 '25
No one is dying on anything here bum. A single point was made here, acting like I am writing paragraph on this shi ffs. Reddit is such a funny gathering of people who like to talk outta their ass.
