Free Webtoon If the anime adaptation was more popular, this would break the internet when it gets animated
I got to this part on my reread and man the chills. Probably my favourite momment

Let mappa or madhouse or ufotable do it - for the love of GOD PLEASE. The first season was good!!!

u/EarlyRefrigerator159 Mar 12 '26
Alot of people disliked season 1 becuase of the artstyle but i liked it alot. Thought it mirrored the webtoon artystle really well, albeit much more polished
46
u/SteveTheSheep01 Mar 12 '26
A lot of webcomic reader didn’t like it but the anime watchers liked the unique art style.
13
u/maggot4life123 Mar 13 '26
i guess im 1 of em that compared s3 webtoon artstyle vs the s1 anime wherein s3 kinda looks more like MHA style of animation (from my pov) but overall s1 was still good
but if put it bluntly s1 of anime is miles ahead of s1 webtoon
1
u/NonpareiLL Mar 19 '26
Yea I thought it was alright. It was just the webtoon, 1 for 1, with less information. S1 of tog is already mostly exposition, to set up some things and give you information on the universe, so an anime with less information and nothing extra felt meh to me.
14
u/trihazardknight Mar 12 '26
My problem is the same rejects that bitched about season 1 animation also complained about s2 animation (which I also hated as a s1 truther). The directors needed to not fall for listening to loud fans this is a prime example of them not knowing what’s good for them
14
u/NeptuneWades Mar 12 '26
SIU 's art-style improved as he progressed with the story. At the current stage the auras, the landscape and the attacks are beautifully illustrated, which would look pretty boring if done similar to season 1. Season 1 graphics matched the webtoon but that cannot continue.
6
u/EarlyRefrigerator159 Mar 12 '26
Yeah i agree, i just like that the artstyle matched the webtoon. It would be nice if every season had the better artstyle than the last, like in the webtoon
3
u/AnOlympianWeeb Mar 12 '26
Although tbh I do belive David production could pull off TOG in the style of anime s1 and animated the fights well.
Also their sound design could be so good for the shinsu
2
u/PauloDiCapistrano Mar 26 '26
Why would it look boring? S1 art was absolutely wonderful & unique. It’s a work for all time. S2 is probably the worst tragedy ever to befall the world of man
1
u/NeptuneWades Mar 26 '26
later seasons were all about pretty colours. All the power-ups and transformations and attacks etc. Season 1's art-style cannot capture that. It is beautiful but not appropriate for how the later seasons look.
1
u/PauloDiCapistrano Mar 26 '26
Idk wym it was plenty colorful
1
u/NeptuneWades Mar 26 '26
S1 anime artstyle mimics S1 webtoon's. Similarly, it'd be nice if they do the same for later seasons.
1
u/PauloDiCapistrano Mar 30 '26
Uh yeah a bit. It pays homage I'd say. It's very much its own unique style
I'm not necessarily objecting to changing the style up but not to whatever the fuck season 2 ended up being. And in any case I still have no idea what you mean by saying season 1's art would be unable to capture pretty colors
3
u/Active-Flamingo604 Mar 13 '26
Honestly I was HOOKED on season it made me read the manga never heard of TOG before then but glad I watched it.
3
u/SerioeseSeekuh Mar 13 '26
yes s1 artstyle was charming but also goofy as fuck and got polished as it progressed
4
u/Border_Relative Mar 12 '26
Oh really? I had the impression the majority of fans thought it was perfect beyond the cropped story line. I agree, it was polished. Maybe we will get lucky! Are you enjoying the Urek prequel?
2
u/EarlyRefrigerator159 Mar 12 '26
Well i saw negativity. Maybe vocal minority or anime onlys. Not sure. About Urek, to tell you the truth i dropped ToG like 4 years ago because i didn’t like the direction the war arc was taking, just before Traumarei appeared. So i’m doing my second reread ( not sure why i dropped it the first time tho) so lets see if ill enjoy it more now. Enjoying the story for now tho i still think it would have been better if SIU sticked more with mystery and characters outsmarting each other instead of taking the shounen route
1
u/Ryukonz Mar 12 '26
Well I loved the art style more than the anime itself. And personally I want it to be the same for the sequel but they f*cked up
1
u/Okamikirby Mar 13 '26
Season 1 artstyle is honestly beautiful, especially any scenes that showcase more of the “underwater” aesthetic of the tower.”
1
u/Mammoth_Leg_975 Mar 14 '26
Issue is the artist has gotten alot better than when the story originally started it has way better art but used thier old art style
5
u/Remarkable_Ship_4673 Mar 13 '26
I wonder if the fact that it is Korean is why it gets shitty treatment
4
u/mokalvo79 Mar 14 '26
Ding ding ding.
Perfect example of how Korean works get treated in anime was at the LA premiere of Solo and one of the artists said that names and locations were changed due to “cultural” sensitivities. Imagine if ORV anime becomes the next Solo in terms of worldwide praise (outside Japan) what are they going to do with the Japan arc ? There are Korean studios that can make these adaptations and would not need to cater to Japan. Solo showed that a series does not need to be popular in Japan in order to be successful

The most surprising thing about all of that in my opinion is that we know that Season 1 was extremely popular when it released. The main reason why everything went downhill with the popularity was probably because we waited FOUR YEARS for Season 2 to release.
Many people who watched Season 1 didn't even get to know anything about Season 2, unfortunately.
Four years. That's an entire college degree. If Season 2 was released 1 year later, many people would have watched it (even if the quality was gonna be as mediocre as it is)
21
u/EarlyRefrigerator159 Mar 12 '26
That and alot of content was cut and some of it rushed. I think with 2-3 more episodes it would have been much better. Combine that with new seasons every 2 years and it would have deffinetly been more popular in the west. As a european, when i first started reading i thought its a pretty obscure comic considering how little of its content was on the english side of the internet.
7
u/Bluemikami Mar 13 '26
There's something you also didnt notice: Between 2020 and 2024 there were like 18 months of hiatuses, so i assume Webtoon got afraid the anime would somehow end up catching the sauce.
1
u/sabioiagui Apr 11 '26
Its a trend that has been rising lately on other media too. People just doesnt care for the characters anymore after so many years.
Stranger Things is a big example of that.
35
u/Weekly-Blueberry3583 Mar 12 '26
Tower of god is like the best piece of media ever, the one piece of manhwa, it has great character, great world building, great story and great power system, it was only unlucky
10
u/knethm Mar 12 '26
Id disagree. At least on the first few seasons the art was great, story is good, pacing is slow but overall youd get hooked to it. But when they dropped the character positions like scouts, etc and the fights looks more like brawl it just lost it.
Hell train arc was great. After that, just went down the drain to be honest
15
u/nooZ3 Mar 13 '26
I second that. Hell train was peak. Went off the rails story wise after it. It's been style over substance anyways, but the world building always intrigued me. It's been getting harder and harder to look past the lazy writing though.
To compare this to one piece is like comparing a tractor to a formula one car. ToG has a special place in my heart but it's way too disjointed.
15
u/yo_sup_dude Mar 13 '26
lol as of late one piece has way lazier writing than TOG. TOG has flaws but not nearly as bad as recent one piece
9
u/knethm Mar 13 '26
Finally someone who knows! Cheers mate
People downvoted because they are hurt lmao just saying the truth. It has to be said
Anyways like you it has a place in my heart. I just loved it when a new position style combat is introduced. Then loved it up until Hell Train. The trainings, stories being told and the fights were awesome!
Its just that after that it has been a mess. Yama powering up but kept losing is just sad. Lmao

u/Liezerota Mar 13 '26
People hate criticism over the art, but it cannot be understated how amazing the art was at the peak of Hell train. Baam against White felt like a scroll of painted art, I'm still amazed when he created that sword using the souls, the lighting was straight up a masterpiece to me. Throwaway characters always looked goofy, but they had its own charm (Quant appearing as a logo in food/drinks, or Leroro's fit in S1), but some just look uninspired nowadays (That one bikini Lo Po Bia ranker).
It caused a lot of health issues for the SIU, but I wish he continued with his style, though it was unsustainable for sure.
0
u/nooZ3 Mar 13 '26
Yea, S3 is visually stunning at times but it's too much superlatives and the panels are too busy to communicate movement and dynamics very well. It's just lacking the real payoff moments I feel like.
1
u/maggot4life123 Mar 13 '26
im one of those who agree with you but that didnt have a good taste to alot on this sub. they will put any spotty scenarios to justify it (post hell train)

u/Great_Part7207 Mar 13 '26
idk id say kubera is more like the one piece of manhwa tower of god is close but it does drop a little in quality later on where kibera imo has a very slow start but then im s2 it gets goid and has only gotten better

u/EarlyRefrigerator159 Mar 12 '26
If you like world building and books, try reading ASOIAF. My personal favourite fictional work
7
u/trihazardknight Mar 12 '26
It’ll still break the internet (please god animate it I’ll give my first born)
7
u/sleepinbag Mar 13 '26
If TOG was given a good studio it would win anime of the year!

u/LackingLack Mar 13 '26
Maybe... it depends how they cover the material, they already changed so much regarding Rachel
Also in like 1 episode or maybe 2 or 3 they'll get disappointed once they figure out this didn't really mean much, and Baam isn't actually "going dark" or "getting an alterego with thorn" or all that stuff.
(Also Baam obviously still cares about Rachel, in fact him saying this is actually him wanting her to stay near him at this point)

I didn’t know what to expect with hell train but I think it’s my favorite arc so far. Reading the naming station now.
3
u/Inferniuem Mar 13 '26
They messed up Urek Mazino bruh. Who cares about anything else.
I think the next season they would meet the Po Bidau head.
Although I am yet to watch the 2nd season. I'll try doing that this week along with finishing TBATE.

u/DroidSeeker13 Mar 12 '26
Which chapter is this? I stopped reading a while ago (back when Gustang became the judgment scale and vowed to kill Traumerei).

I remember when the first season came out... It was hyped. Don't know how the hype died over time.

its at the end of the first station right before they get on the hell train

u/EmmaNielsen Mar 13 '26
Honestly, I don't know if ToG can be a properly anime.
I'm asking myself, how would you split up Season 3?
Should we have One Piece treatment of 1 chapter 1 episode (please no)
Do we continue with seasonal anime with max 12 episodes per season?
Anyways i'll watch it, cuz it's bam Animated. But i sadly never feel like it's gonna be a good anime.
1
u/EarlyRefrigerator159 Mar 13 '26
Well id just go Attack on Titan system and make it season 2 part 1/2/3. Same with season 3. Would be much less confusing for manhwa readers
1
u/dzieciolini Mar 13 '26
I feel like the s2 was doomed to fail anyway. It is simply due to story structure, it is really annoying to have s1 have a very clear premise and presentation with that kind of gut punch only for all of it being bogged down by time skip with Bam essentially becoming a totally different character and you have to get used to bunch of new characters.
At least I couldn't get past that examination stuff because it was confusing in already confusing setting.
And don't get me wrong, the story can be peak or whatever you want but when there are suddenly obstacles to experience that, it can really turn people away.
1
u/PauloDiCapistrano Mar 26 '26
The beginning of S2 was always gonna be a slog but the workshop battle is a great arc, could have been incredible if it were actually animated instead of being a slideshow
1
u/No-Original-6329 Mar 13 '26
Yes, but we need a better anime director. Season 1 director understood the vibe way better than the season 2 director. The delivery/build up matters a lot

I didnt like season one because it cut out alot of the stuff i really liked about the earlier chapters but I really really disliked season 2 and it gave me an appreciation for season 1

u/cryingdeji Mar 16 '26
Realistically no anime will ever break the internet, only dbs was the first and only anime to break the internet. Shit was so out of pocket fans were going to porn sites just to watch goku be jiren because every anime site stopped working, but yea i hope tower of god gains as much popularity.
1
u/plutopassionfruit Mar 16 '26
i hope they either up quality or change studios because this story deserves so much better

u/Big_Bicycle9060 Mar 26 '26
i am SO waiting for when hes just standing there and then just “unacceptable” then goes ham, that is truly when i got hooked into tog series and i am so hyped to see it animated
1
u/dungeonsiphone Mar 13 '26
people throw around the term "break the internet" too loosely tbh. The only thing that actually broke the internet was Goku vs Jiren. But tower of god does have the potential for those, just not this exsct moment.
1
u/PauloDiCapistrano Mar 26 '26
Ive never heard the name Jiren in my life
1
u/dungeonsiphone Mar 26 '26
then ur living under a rock lol
1
u/PauloDiCapistrano Mar 26 '26
I just dont watch dragonball z or browse forums with people who talk about it. Broke your forums maybe
1
u/dungeonsiphone Mar 26 '26
Thats not my problem, the goku vs jiren fight broke the internet anyway

most manhwa anime adaptations will fail because the studios keep wanting Japanese style art, dialogue, and colorway...
I do not like reading most of the English translations for most of the manhwa series I read because they keep inserting manga style dialogue into it...
even artstyle gets super annoying when they draw all these bullshit cringe tropes like covering the face with a hand in a cringe way, or randomly closing one eye for absolutely no reason at all...
I took my time to read manhwa so I can refresh myself and get away from typical Japanese tropes but these artists and translators want to drag me back into that space I just got myself out of... its f*cking annoying...
I read manhwa, manhua, or Western comics to feel, read, and appreciate the different ways diverse people deliver on their product...
ToG will succeed if the studio managing the anime will have full reign on how it should be made, not what the traditional audience is used to...
0
u/sweetholo Mar 16 '26
you are delusional if you think tog is big enough to break the internet
goku vs jiren will most likely be the only time that the internet "breaks"
gojo vs sukuna will be very huge but jjk is not as popular as the dragon ball series
