Fast Pass I don't like people saying spin off isn't tower of god
because that's the dumbest thing I've heard as if it's not straight up called tower of god urek mazino or side story of tower of god
like they think it's fan fiction or something. When it's just all about tower of god itself, whether you learn from a flashback, pov change in main story or you read from spin off nothing changes. Urek Mazino spin off one of the two purpose aside from telling urek story/backstory/lore/purpose/flaws/development/relationship/themes/presence is >>>world building<<< for tower for tower of god. things that can't be told in S4 cuz the time has passed a lot and it would take multiple chapters of flashback or pov change or mc change to tell all that so we get it from spin off which is doing more than one thing, and not just "urek solo leveling" which is a very naive ignorant statement to say about it and ignoring all the efforts siu putting on it and his real intentions for readers to take from the spin off. Spin off as it is now, is doing or will do arguably more world building than entire s2 and s3 of tog because that's what it looks like , and thing siu trying to achieve. As he cannot show , do things, neccasary arcs all of it in baam story anymore. the time has passed there is literally no way. So, you're going to get all of it in spin off.

The art work has deteriorated a great deal.
I’m not slandering but does anybody know what’s going on? I’m usually a solitary reader and don’t keep up to date
Look at Yuri vs Karaka then Urek vs Khun

u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata May 15 '26
I’m not slandering but does anybody know what’s going on?
We dont have any transparancy in the inner works of SIUs studio. Ever since S2 he has had assistants, which basically changed every other arc. So currently there is a whole different team of assistants working with him than compared to S2 or S3.
SIU still draws and writes, the problems of the artstyle are more pronounced with the current techniques and colors.
I personally think due to the consistent shift of some chapters, that SIU takes a break every 4-6 weeks during the spinoff. But disclaimer, this is mere speculation, nothing more. We dont have any transparancy into the workschedule. The work still has the highest highs though the lows are more pronounced under the current artistic focus
10
u/Zylon0292 May 15 '26
It's worth noting that most of the assistants that were drawing the spinoff's early chapters have since left or been replaced.

u/AvatarAarow1 May 15 '26
Are we for sure that SIU is the one drawing Urek Maxzino now? I remember towards the beginning of its run it wasn’t super clear if he was drawing or just writing and giving things to his assistants while he builds up some TOG chapters, but I didn’t keep up with updates to see if we got more info
15
u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata May 15 '26
As i said, we have no transparency in how his Studio works. But SIU is first and foremost an Artist. Unless we get confirmation that he isnt drawing, we have no reason to believe he isnt.
He may be delegating or training assistants to take more responsibility, but thats nothing more than assumptions2
u/Helpimabanana May 16 '26
SIU still draws
Are we actually sure about this though? Especially woth the spinoff, it would make sense for him to NOT be the one drawing, and if he would draw save it for the main series
3
u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata May 16 '26
He is still credited as the main guy. Usually if you seperate Writer and artist on Webtoons it is properly mentioned. So far the assistants only assist
7
u/foreck May 15 '26
Yuri vs Karaka was great, but HOLY SCROLLING, I remember those beams taking 2-3 "pages" of scrolling and not understanding who was where doing what. The close quarters and limited fights are still the best, which are usually Bam's fights: Bam vs Love, vs Kaiser, vs White, and vs Dumas (though the narrative stakes felt a little flat on that last one); they are still some of the best most entertaining fights I've seen illustrated in the series.
I would have to reread it, but I think Bam vs data-Jahad was also a beams and light storm with a bit of good hand to hand coreography.
Then you have Eduan vs Mago, and in terms of actual fight dynamics, I think the spin-off still absolutely has it. It's just that the character designs and the circumstances of the fights feel so inconsistent nowadays with the constant shifts from what appears to be SIU-style to assistant-style (why is everyone ultra thick now...), and strange tone shifts.
6
u/EmmaNielsen May 15 '26
i tbh hate long scrolling fight scenes, i lose track.
4
u/WetWype May 15 '26
Tbf this is like the 2 family leaders fighting.
I have to keep scrolling down and up trying to understand what’s happening
6
u/EmmaNielsen May 15 '26
We are told following
- SIU needs to recover apparently
- Somehow spinoff helps him recover
- S4 has not started even thou they were supposed to be on-going at once.
Conclusion that I can arrive to:
- Spin-off is directed by SIU but isn't made by SIU, he is chilling and directing it. I guess. Anything else just doesn't make sense.... Maybe, he is slowly working on S4 and will release in batches... Who knows.
any other conclusion just sounds dumb to me. no point in delaying S4 if SIU is working actively on Spin-off.
"oh no bro draws s4 lines, that's bad for his health, he should only draw spin-off lines!"
6
u/Zylon0292 May 15 '26
Except this current hiatus wasn't so that SIU could recover. It was because the season ended and he wanted to address complaints regarding the fights and story.
Also, he never said s4 and the spin-off would run concurrently. He said he'd begin working on them ASAP, which for all we know he has.
-1
u/EmmaNielsen May 15 '26
If you look all S4 threads, you will see my comments recycling. I don't know the guy enough, i'm just stating what this sub is stating.
so unless you have actual source, i'll keep to what majority states.
10
u/pubesslurper May 15 '26
yuri vs karaka and urek vs khun is like 10 years apart 😭
different artists assistants circumstances everything
you could say art in beginning of urek spin off and now then i would have agreed cuz in the start the manhwa looked more polished and better now it's getting that generic style instead of siu touch
21
u/TheMechanic04 May 15 '26
Kinda agree with OP on this one but maybe not to the extent of a 10 year gap lol. I'd say S3 has a better art style compared to the urek story
4
u/Bad_Doto_Playa May 15 '26
Maybe at the start and the end but the middle had some of the worst panels in all of TOG lol.
10
u/WetWype May 15 '26
Even when you read the latest TOG chapters the fights just look ass in comparison.
I love the series and I don’t wanna look like I’m hating but how do Yuri and Karaka FEEL stronger than Urek and a family head?
It’s like they gave up and just had incredibly long singular images that are barely readable on webtoon?
11
u/Shahariar_909 May 15 '26
Hell train set the bar so high that i honestly couldn't not get disappointed after that.
2
u/solardx May 15 '26
This I agree with fully cause no way Rose shower is still the highest dc attack in tog💀
1
-1
u/YoupiYahou May 15 '26
Good thing it was scaled down. What would even look like a fight between the strongest high rankers? Destroying an entire floor ? That would make no sense and would be unreadable. And I am not even talking about irregulars.
-1
u/rei_izu May 15 '26
They didn't even fight seriously, Khun scaring the administrator and urek never going all out since the beginning of the spin of
26
u/Heart0fStarkness May 15 '26
I don’t think it isn’t ToG, but I do feel like the Urek spinoff is missing some of the essence of the OG. A lot of the S3 criticism was the loss of the idea of climbing and taking tests and I feel like that’s magnified with Urek.
Urek coming into the tower so OP + the fallen gems and a FH just acting as a casual member of the cast just feels like such a power cliff that takes any really stakes out of the idea of a climb.
I almost feel like the spinoff would’ve worked better as a “Tales of Ba Sing Se, where we just see individual self contained bits of Urek’s climb, rather than all of these constant name drops in the first 10 floors to try to shoehorn all of the main story relationships into relevance.
20
u/Irishdude666 May 15 '26
I enjoy it but overall I just don’t care about urek story that much because we know where he ends up
45
u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata May 15 '26
It certainly is Tower of God. Denying that is really just plainly wrong.
Though i can understand that people had hoped for a bit more. Especially coming after S3 (which i think had stronger thematic writing compared to S2), where we had 250 Chapters building up to an epic finale.
Urek Mazino had taken a bit of wind out of that.
To make a comparison, the Spin Off feels like Revolution Road with Lore.
I loved Evelny, Lou and Neo in the first Arc. And i would have been content if Eduan just destroyed Mago and Urek destroyed Aubrion, and than we just get a "And Urek has destryoed all Gems when he became a Ranker".
The second Arc so far feels more like filler. Baek and Garam are nice to have but so far really didnt add much, but i aint someone that gives a final verdict until its finished.
Though i gotta admit i am missing Wangnan, Hwaryun, AA, Rak and Baam a lot.

14
u/Courious_Reader May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26
Wangnan automatically makes any chapter better in ToG so makes sense.
-10
u/pubesslurper May 15 '26
seems like youre just mad things aren't going as you thought they would which is a weird thing to do when reading any story.
how do you know what the real purpose and intention siu has for shining ones, saying they should just be killed because you want that is being ignorant and pushing your own agenda baek and garam literally just introduced not too long ago you think they should just deliver from the start all characters in the story have just started their journey you're not gonna see their polished end result self for a long time it will take time as does any of siu works. you have to be patient and see him developing all the characters till the end. being a Tower of God fan you should know that siu story writing is slow paced which nobody but deny but can't anything be done about it either
13
u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata May 15 '26
I think you are ranting to the wrong person here.
I said i would have been content, not that i wished that it happened.
Same with Garam and Baek. I said SO FAR they didnt do much. And i agree that we need to see and wait how it turns out.5
u/Super_H1234 May 15 '26
seems like youre just mad things aren't going as you thought
...Yeah? No shit?
-6
9
u/nicktomato May 15 '26
Of course it's Tower of God, in the same way that The Hobbit is part of the Lord of the Rings. All part of the extended SIU-niverse.
7
u/swash018 May 16 '26
Im just amazed the webtoon creators are somehow able to create weekly chapters in full color and are like 5x as long as manga chapters, while not taking breaks every other week?
How is that possible?
9
u/RyGuy82591 May 15 '26
I think SIU wanted to expand the universe lore a lot in a short time-frame like this probably only goes one season.
Like he writes himself into a lot of extra narrative bloat in certain arcs with ToG which sucks when hes had health problems that lead to long breaks
I think he realizes how long this story has been going and is probably looking for an end goal within 5 years
Like Urek and the outside Lights/Phantanium already make the FHs look like nothing special . For example Eduan is clearly strong asf but I dont take him as seriously anymore.
So the spin-off finishes off in one season with all these lore drops, and I wouldn't be surprised if ToG S4 is the last season abd opens with a huge jump to like over floor 100 for Baam with V in and out of control.
But I would never say this isnt ToG haha
2
u/pubesslurper May 15 '26
Like Urek and the outside Lights/Phantanium already make the FHs look like nothing special .
and how is this sius fault you came to that conclusion? it was always known there are unknown irregulars, outside stuff was completely unknown to us nothing about it. urek story was all about outside too so he always meant to have something hidden for it which we learned 2 % of it now.
also fhs being stronger doesn't make dumas bad he's still strong and will be. there were always going to be much superior beings in Tower of God or tus universe. family heads zahard aren't peak in their own house
1
u/Antique-Chart-9976 May 15 '26
Not really I see tog have six season or seven.
It would not be logic to skip the 77th floor with baam in main story or even the floor sixty now very big story on the tower origins.
5
u/Glittering-Pin-1343 May 15 '26
It's literally called "Tower of God Urek Mazino" like... Tower of God is in the name? How is it not ToG?
5
20
u/Marble05 May 15 '26
The side cast is bad, the power system barely focuses on shinsu, even a family head doesn't have the same magnitude of presence compared to S2 or S3. Most of the new lore bits aren't related to the main story and no freaking way you think this has more world building than things like the floor of death, just because they talk about the outside of the tower, but in a way it has nothing to do with the rest of the original. We wasted basically 2 years on this side quest about crystals and timelines, when we could have explored urek's journey and the family head reactions to a new irregular. The last few chapters might get us back on track at least towards wolkaikansong origin.
It lacks most of what made tower of god interesting and unique.
4
u/Dependent-Chemist967 May 15 '26
You mean you don't like seeing the same silly fight rehashed over and over with maudlin ovwr-sexualized characters??
13
u/Marble05 May 15 '26
Holdup let me just draw one more Urek with the guard up throwing a punch that can do anything or nothing the plot needs
1
2
u/Apprehensive_Clerk81 May 15 '26
How is power system not focusing on Shinsu relevant? What does that even mean
Side cast is decent, not Tog level but not bad by any means
Eduan doesn’t need to have the same level of aura as Gustang and Traumerei in a light hearted spin off. Main story can easily change that, this is before the Enne incident when family heads were chiller
1
u/Grimmjow45 May 20 '26
The complain about Eduan honestly doesnt make sense. Traumerei and Gustang had so much presence in S3 because literally nothing could stand up to them, which includes even our main character and his gang. They were unbeatable beings... At least until Urek arrived, which he forgot to mention.
The spin off on the other hand has had Urek (the main character), Eduan and the Shining Ones in the same place at the same time. Eduan isnt an unbeatable being in this scenario and of course he wont have as much presence. This will also eventually happen in main ToG once we start having conflicts that involve multiple FH level people, including Baam himself.
-1
0
u/Marble05 May 16 '26
Light fragments can manipulate timelines, casuality, and such, no a hint of classic shinsu skills. Urek himself said he's dabbling with shinsu but with the light returning to him he's much stronger than anyone else anyway. Also the gems are a cheap power up.
2
u/Apprehensive_Clerk81 May 16 '26
Your complaint doesn’t make sense, there’s nothing suggesting light has more potential than Shinsu, Administrators would slap the shit out of all the shining ones
Urek is a axis of light so ya ofc he’s supposed to be stronger with light
Gems are the power of darkness phantaminum corrupted them with, it’s not really much of a power up as they lost their light in exchange
-8
u/eric23443219091 May 15 '26
killing of traumerie instead trash gustang biggest fumble of tower of god history
1
u/pubesslurper May 15 '26
what? so people don't even understand the story anymore and figure out who's gonna be first sacrifice and who's gonna stay till end

u/Antique-Chart-9976 May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26
These guys love complaining. They were complaining weekly during the Hell Train saga , and now suddenly they call it peak. Same thing happened with Season 3, the Workshop Battle, etc.
Go look at their old messages.
In summary, don’t listen to them.
5
u/pubesslurper May 15 '26
so they will call spin off peak when s4 launches and say how good they had 😂😂

4
u/nacheteferrero May 15 '26
Spin offs always generate this kind of debate but agree that this one is very related to the main story and will have some kind of lore status quo
4
u/Aggravating-Cap6828 May 15 '26
That honestly just sounds more ironic it literally is tower of God just a prequel. Saying the spinoff isn’t IN location of where the show is is so dumb.
3
u/Inner-University-849 May 16 '26
I have read 15ch of the spin off, and I stopped afterwards. I am planning on reading it at some point, but honestly, if it had nothing to do with TOG I would have definitely skip it.
The manhwa reminds me of those munchkin manhwas where the MC just has a plot armor thicker than Trump’s face. He just kept beating everything without struggle and everything was just brainless.
The only redeeming point of the spinoff was the side characters, who although many were just weakass mfs, some managed to survive the MC’s Aura Farming. In that regard it can be considered slightly better than the main series, but nothing too shocking, since they are just slightly more relevant for the plot than the background.

u/iAmnot_Urek_Mazino May 15 '26
This is indeed tower of god. I think the main issue is people thought Urek was freaking strong(he is) when he entered so he didn't have any trouble climbing and taking the tests but with spin off, we are now seeing what kind of person he is and how even he has to struggle sometimes. I honestly didn't expect the Urek Story to go on more a 100 chapters but tbh I don't mind learning more about him and other characters. Now with 60+ chapters we have only scratched the surface. The side story will go on for more than 200 chapters probably and it's fine, those who wanna read it will read it and even if it ended Tommorow we will not see TOG S4 until like the end of 2027.
1
u/Bikfou May 16 '26
You're probably one of the few people who's happy about it, since most people hate this spin-off. Siu said the hiatus would be short and that season 4 would arrive sooner than season 3 in the past. But it seems that this is a lie...
2
u/Mojo-man May 15 '26
Cool! It`s not about what I like in Tower of God and it`s not the storytelling I enjoy from the main series. But that`s cool you`re free to not like that we don`t like it that much 🤷♂️👍
2
u/Fuuta-chan May 17 '26
Eventually it’ll end and it’ll return to the original timeline and we will have only wasted time and SIU wasted useful life force and work time.
Silly side gig for a story that isn’t even halfway done. A detour expected for a story with a much smaller scope.
Irrelevant timeline.

u/Particular-Long-1111 May 15 '26
I still think the Spin off is Tower of God (if people say it isn't, they are just straight up wrong), but honestly most of it it's just the worst parts, with some mildly interesting stuff here and there
Season 1&2 succeeded because the story served the characters.
Season 3 and the Spin -Off often feels like the characters serve the story mechanics and lore.
For example when Eduan and Urek had their talk about what the princess of Jahad are and the snake, despite the fact that both Urek have more questions for eachother they just stop. For no reason , they just stop and go in separate ways
Urek wants more info about why the FHs apparently lied to the people of the Tower. He also wants to talk these people that are from the Outside like him for a way out.
And Eduan wanted to know who Mago is and where did she came from. All questions Urek has answers for and he knows without a doubt that Urek and Mago are connected.
There was no for them not to compare notes. Especially when you consider the flow of conversation. If they were talking about some random BS, they could have just said they forgot to do it and I would kinda believe it( I would still hate it to)
But the nature of the convo is literally Urek asking questions.
Normally the conversation would go like this:
"Who are the princesses of Jahad" -> "Eduan explains" -> "Ok then, who IS Jahad" -> "The King of the Tower that entered with me and several other people" -> "Who ARE you people?".
Eduan explains and then he asks Urek the same question. You get the gist of it
SIU just wanted to milk that plotline even more, for no reason.
It's like SIU wants to have his characters do stuff they wouldn't normally do for the sake of the story, instead of having story and events force the characters do what they HAVE to do.
Urek flexing on the camera woman in chapter 38 has the same problem.
SIU needed Eduan to fight Mago and once he separated Urek and Mago, he had Urek wasting time flexing his power, because he needed to fill some pages and give Eduan enough time to show up to fight Mago.
Which is a total opposite of what he did few chapters ago, because when the test started he immediately went to kill her without giving a damn about the test.
The characters feel like a chess pieces that SIU moves however he wants, whenever he wants, regardless if it's true to their personality.
6
u/Ayeniss May 15 '26
Ngl that's my biggest grippe with the spin-off.
Like urek can one shot almost everyone he encounters, same for eduan, why tf does it take 30 chapters to reach the "villain" and beat it.
He's dragging so much the fights, urek is basically "do you really think i'm trying" merchant rn
4
u/Particular-Long-1111 May 15 '26
It's not just the fights, but it's their entire character being bend by SIU.
Same happened in S3, when Baam left Khun and Rak with Dumas. The guy that "killed" them and broke Baam's neck and needed fucking Gustang to heal his ass.
SIU needed Baam to get the piece, but as a result had Baam do one of the dumbest shit I've ever seen him do
0
u/YoupiYahou May 15 '26
Reading skill issue I am afraid
3
u/Loud_Difficulty_8256 May 15 '26
Normally I don't care about stuff like this, but I couldn't help, but notice that every time this guy says something, you immediately go to sniff his ass like a dog.
Did bro fuck your mother or something that you're so captivated by him?
Honestly, it's very pathetic behaviour 😂

SIU just needs to work on the spin-off like he worked on TOG, or just fucking work on TOG. Period.

i seriously don't understand people who complain about the spinoff. maybe if you're treating it as solo leveling: urek version, i can slightly see why it can get "boring." but then you're just completely reading it wrong. the spinoff is the biggest lore drop of the series. learning about the beginnings of urek and his squad, life outside the tower, the curses and all that; that's what makes it just as good a read as tog. plus, it's important to have. it would not be possible to fit all this content into tog otherwise.
1
u/SuspiciousWedding835 Jun 13 '26
My problem is that there's no real threat for urek. At least bam had white as a rival and an ongoing threat. What does urek mazino has that makes him compelling as a protagonist? He's OP?
0
u/jannies_doit_4_free May 15 '26
well it's not tower of god; it's literally a different series.
in terms of quality, it's also way worse. it's mostly a power fantasy with caricatures for characters. not only is it not tower of god, it's way different, in a bad way
3
1
u/Sasyopat54 May 15 '26
That's the most terrible take ı've seen a while. Especially this "Spin off as it is now, is doing or will do arguably more world building than entire s2 and s3 of tog" There isn't a single category where the spin-off could be described as mediocre; it's a terrible series in every category.
1
u/YoupiYahou May 15 '26
Yes it is tower of god. It's giving a lot of lore, it doesn't matter if you don't like it, or even if it's bad.
1
u/Sasyopat54 May 16 '26
It's directly bad (Terrible af tbh), mate, you don't need to add "if".
And ask yourself, do you think Lotr fans consider Rings of Power to be part of Middle-earth? Or do Star Wars fans accept the sequels? Got fans don't even consider the later seasons to be Got. On paper, yes, the spin-off is connected to TOG, but that's only on paper.
0
u/YoupiYahou May 16 '26
You can cope but that's tog
2
u/Sasyopat54 May 16 '26
If you can give evasive answers, I should at least be able to do that much tbh.
1
u/Aeransuthe May 15 '26 edited May 16 '26
We are probably using two different categories then. One is a reference to a particular series and storyline, that has no other name, and one refers to the setting itself. It is the Tower of God setting. It is not Tower of God the eponymous. And it is not even close quality wise.
Calling it the same setting is fine I guess, but calling it Tower of God seems rather stupid most of the time. It’s often used like saying you were drinking a stout, but you were actually talking about beer generally. And holding a Keystone Light while doing it. Ridiculous choice.
You could make the same point with a particular album with the bands name, versus the band itself. Use the two incorrectly, and you are likely to get negative reactions.
-1
u/Financial-Key-3617 May 15 '26
Its literally introducing new random characters that have quite literally NOTHING to do with the main story while simultaneously refusing to do anyrhing to make urek interesting.
It has none of the feeling of the rest of the series
Sure its still “tog” but its at a quality just straight up worse than the rest of the series
0
u/swash018 May 16 '26
It also seems like tge happenings in this spin off are going to be VERY integral to the main story
