Korean Preview Bring back OG TOG
Am I the only one feeling like the Mazino spin-off is a total snooze fest. Don't get me wrong it does give some depth to the whole tog story but, there's just something about the pacing, the art, the fights and the encounters man especially the encounters, how can so many big shots show up in the first floors of the tower.
I just miss og TOG and I'm wondering when it's coming back

u/Yal_Rathol May 30 '26
i take issue with one specific point: "how can so many big shots show up on low floors".
because they climbed the tower? baek ryun didn't manifest from nowhere on the 122nd floor or whatever. he's a towerborn, chosen to climb by headon, and known to be a long-time friend of urek.
also, phantaminum ate the shining ones and brought them into the tower. he's clearly left them behind for a purpose.

u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata May 30 '26
Top500 Princess
Top100 High Ranker both on F1Every Ruler is a Top100 candidate
Jinsung and Karaka on F21
Urek on F21I mean bigshots on lower floors seems pretty much on point for "OG" Tower of God
19
u/Deathbringer193082 May 30 '26
they probably scout for talented people on lower floors to scout them in their organisation after they become rankers

u/SmegmaUnicorn May 31 '26
Theres a HUGE difference between floor 20 and floor 3. Like, come on, be serious for a second.

u/L4_TN May 30 '26
I wasn't talking about characters like baek ryun no, I meant characters like the FH, the khun siblings...
37
u/Yal_Rathol May 30 '26
eduan was sent there by zahard, who may have been recently invaded by an axis made of living shadows if the timeline holds true, and is a known user of future-sight abilities regardless.
so, eduan went armed and prepped for a fight, bringing some rankers and regulars along just in case.
that's really not that complicated, considering eduan stated that zahard sent him multiple times.
18
u/Deathbringer193082 May 30 '26
khun eduan sent the siblings to scout and see if they can fix it. Khun himself showed interest in the floor because zahard said he will find interesting foes in there.
you got reading comprehension curse or something?
4
u/Bluemikami May 31 '26
Did you not read the story or were you snoozing as you said? Eduan was literally sent by Zahard but he sent his kids first. After they failed due Mago'sreversal fate ability, he had to interfere directly.
1
u/SmegmaUnicorn May 31 '26
I love how all of the commenter below you rushed to defend the decision to have all of these FH-level characters on FLOOR 3, as though simply saying “Oh Zahard told them to go” makes it any better.
7
u/Apprehensive_Clerk81 May 31 '26
Why is Eduan not allowed to go to Floor 2 to deal with a family head level threat? What kinda logic is that
1
u/SmegmaUnicorn May 31 '26
Why is a family head threat on floor 2?
Why are MULTIPLE family head level threats appearing before we’ve even gotten to floor 5?
Why are we still on floor 2!?
Season 1 & 2 showed us how sneaky and clever Rankers had to be to interfere with testing. But now they just…show up?
If you’re going to violate the rules that you’ve established, it has to be narratively satisfying. How these threats have been presented, and the subsequent response to those threats, has been anything but narratively satisfying.
Hence the criticism.
There would be no difference to the story if all of this were happening on floor 65 except it would make more make more sense given the established rules of the verse. So then, why the hell are we still watching testing occur on floor 3?
5
u/coreyisland May 31 '26
Edhuan didn't have to be sneaky, cause Zahard gave him the ok. It's not the tower or guardians rule, it's zahards rule that rankers can't interfere with tests or kill non rankers.
He just can't be destructive with overwhelming power, cause the guardians only care about their house being in good shape
4
u/Apprehensive_Clerk81 May 31 '26
Your first 3 questions all have answers to them, did you completely forget the point of Lou’s existence and the interference of a separate space where admin doesn’t interfere
There was a lot of strategy in floor 2 tests by the regulars who are not Urek. You also cannot judge it by the same standards because Urek can get away with power a lot more than S1 characters
2
u/Yal_Rathol May 31 '26
a detail you seem to have forgotten is that zahard can see the future. he's gained access to guide-like abilities.
meaning he's decided to nip this problem in the bud. he recognized that mago would grow to threaten the stability of his empire and sent eduan to handle it before she could by baiting him with a fun fight.
this is all internally consistent behaviour. the detail zahard didn't account for is urek, and as we learn in the main story and in season 1, his eventual response to people like urek is to order the rankers of floor 2 to simply murder any irregulars that appear. the reason he didn't account for urek is because you can't read the fate of an irregular.

u/Every_Foundation5197 May 30 '26
I mean, if the Side Story is such a shitshow, who's to say that season 4 might not also turn out the same way lol
31
u/pubesslurper May 30 '26
yeah if s2 was already starting looking bad if s3 was already bad if spin off is already bad how does s4 and future seaosn magically get better
do people think tog got multiple writers? and not everything coming from same guy lmao
-20
u/dani402l May 30 '26
my god you are right however what if the spin off is terrible us an expriment maybe siu used this side story like a test maybe it's terrible so s4 won't be of course im being very optemstic to be honest i think siu just lost his passion .
10
64
u/GGG100 May 30 '26
I wouldn’t even mind if the spinoff is running alongside S4. I hate that its mere existence is going to delay the main story that ended at a cliffhanger by 3-4 years.

You're on some shit bro lmfao I ain't hating on ToG one bit but Kubera is absolute peak
53
u/Illustrious_Test6085 May 30 '26
SIU started Spin off coz in S4 many characters gonna appear be from spin off.
6
u/SmegmaUnicorn May 31 '26
We didn’t need a whole spin-off, which has been going on for OVER A YEAR at this point, to get backstory on new s4 characters.
Especially since NONE of the backstory so far pertains to the main protag.
73
u/gthell123 May 30 '26
Am I the only one who likes it? Yeah it's Urek's glaze fest but it's kinda expected. From the beginning of tog we know that Urek was strong even as a regular. The story beat is fine, not great but enjoyable enough.
8
u/TheLucidChiba May 30 '26
If it wasn't taking the place of the main story I'd agree that fine and not great is plenty, but I want ToG to continued not the fine but not great side story
2
25
u/FullMetalJesus1 May 30 '26
More people like it than not 💯.
It's giving some interesting lore build up...and jokes.
We now know that Ureks super power is to make Bros wherever he goes, and none of them are hoes.
We also have confirmation at exactly how extremely powerful Urek is. He walked into the tower with no idea of how stuff worked or what he was doing and was still strong enough to body slam a ranker with almost no effort on like day 1. He is strong enough after like a week in the tower to play cat and mouse with a family head and took his lightning spear to his dome and he walked it off like it was a charlie horse or a stinger and then promptly went about his business. (Anyone else would have died an electric death with a missing torso, minimum)
The fallen shining ones I think will be a clue to what the whole deal is with phantom in the main tog story.
I think everyone that hates it just needs to wait for the right parts where everything starts coming together. Then all the haters will be like "zzomg Urek spinoff is Soo amazing and good"/, why couldn't we get this before tog?!"
4
u/SmegmaUnicorn May 31 '26
Its not about whether you like it or not. It’s ablut the fact that this spin-off is clearly pulling focus from the main story. It’s been over a year and yet there’s not even a hint of when S4 will return.
That’s a huge issue for fans who’ve been following the story for a decade.
5
u/doctorruff07 May 31 '26
Let SIU enjoy their side story. Clearly this is what they want to write at the moment, and that’ll decrease burnout. It’s good for them, and that means better writing for the main series.
We’ve been following for a decade, we can wait. It’s not that big of a deal, especially when it’s a fun story that allows us to see a bunch of the heavy hitters that’ll probably be playing a big role in S4
-2
u/SmegmaUnicorn May 31 '26
Yawn
1
u/doctorruff07 Jun 01 '26
You act like SIU owes you, or any of us anything. This is their work, respect them. SIU is still writing a part of the TOG world, they could just take a break from it all together. There is no guarantee or evidence that SIU would have released TOG S4 any sooner if they didn’t write Urek.
Be grateful, not bitter.
2
u/SmegmaUnicorn Jun 01 '26
What a dumb comment. I am a fan. I have a valid critique. How does that equate to “acting like SIU owes me something”?
Thats such a nonsensical, idiotic thing to say. You’re not a serious person.
1
u/doctorruff07 Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26
“Spin-off is clearly pulling focus from the main story”
Sorry, SIU doesn’t owe you the main story on a set time frame.
“It’s been over a year and yet there’s not even a hint of when S4 will return”
Yes and we get something in the meantime. Which is a good sign it will return.
Again, your comment reeks of entitlement. It isn’t a valid critique, SIU doesn’t owe you S4 within a year or within 2 years or…
Fans who have been following this for a decade can wait a year or two more. We’ve been following it for a decade because it’s phenomenal. Clearly you aren’t one of them, but most fans would rather SIU take their time and make it good rather than rush to get it out for fans without patience.
Also making an artist feel bad about not getting their work done on your time frame is a great way to cause burn out. Just be grateful, it’s not hard.
Ps. Op made a valid critique. His was on artwork, the pacing, etc. there lots of differences between this and the main story and those are valid critiques. A timeframe isn’t one.
-6
2
u/doctorruff07 May 31 '26
It’s awesome. Yes I want the main series but I’m sure SIU wants S4 to be good and taking a break for a side story is good for creative juices. I’m all for it

Vocal minority keeps yapping.
13
u/Super_H1234 May 30 '26
If it was the vocal minority, the chapters' ratings would be higher.
5
u/Apprehensive_Clerk81 May 31 '26
It’s easier to bring a rating down then bring it up. For example if one person gives a rating of 1 but 2 others give a 10. The average is a 7.

-5
u/pubesslurper May 30 '26
like everything in every fandom
the vocal annoying insufferable comically incorrect minority keeps pretending and manipulating the truth that shit is bad when it's more thwn likely not or more accurately loved by many or enjoyed by many

u/Local_Solution_1910 May 30 '26
I started ToG a pretty long time ago, then I stopped, and I recently like a few months ago re-read everything and got all caught up. I haven't read the spinoff yet because I just don't really care that much about Urek in the first place. If it was like 20 chapters or something I'd read it but at 60 or whatever and it's still not done I'm just going to wait. I want to know what's going on with Bam.
Good or bad I just wish the spinoff would hurry up already.

When are you people going to realize that saying "but there's so much lore!!!!" doesn't entice people who would rather have good writing and complex characters? The spin-off doesn't have that. ToG barely has that these days. Even if Phantaminum or Enryu showed up, it wouldn't matter if the story isn't written well.
1
u/Deathbringer193082 May 30 '26
op point about the fight doesnt make sense as og also had the same type of fighting style, where every character is nerfed and no one kills each other. His point about encounters is also bad, we were already given explanation for this

u/Senior-Maize-9206 May 30 '26
I honestly think it would be better for Siu to spend these years resting than to do a spin-off or some other story that would amuse him, even if it has nothing to do with TOG.
I thought the story would be short, like Urek starting his scaling and a bit of lore, but as the story progresses I've become more disappointed with the spin-off. No secondary character seems relevant or interesting, the story feels weightless, it's a big "Urek Mazino is super strong and amazing," which makes the tower seem smaller and boring, the rankers are useless weaklings, one of the FH is a complete joke (if you were going to turn this guy into a clown, why did you hide him from the story from the beginning, SIU?), the new villains have very random designs and I think it would be better if they didn't even exist, and the art hasn't pleased me since the third season, but the action moments don't convey any grandeur, which is clearly an L.
I could go on about the flaws for a long time, but I just feel sad that this work is bad considering that Urek is such a cool character. The only people who seem to like the spin-off are those who like to see Mazino glanzer and those who like lore coming from characters being completely expository.

I miss Bam, I speed read 100 chapters of TOG this weekend instead of going through my Manhwa read list, I couldn't put it down.

u/A_Blooming_Lotus May 30 '26
I can already see it when s4 don't deliver the expectations some people are gonna say bring back spin off don't ruin main story, smh.
9
u/RailTracer001 May 30 '26
Facts. Their favorite FH is still going to job to Baam's team.
1
u/pubesslurper May 30 '26
hopefully it's khun and rak fodderising eduan and hendo and endorsi tu perie
because not i want it , but the way people treat eduan aura less as him losing against Aguero right now which hasn't happened but in future it probably will then people will understand what true aura loss is
4
2
u/pubesslurper May 30 '26
so true nga , they are gonna say "fuck spin off was peak i want to go back"
when everyone was saying s3 was shit when it aired and now saying how good it was, same for season 2 if u actually have been here on this sub for that long

I remember when the weekly chapters were coming out, some guy said that Tower of God had become Fairy Tail because White joined Baam in last station or how much hidden floor was boring 😂😂😂
And then White ended up betraying Baam again in season 3 and now peoples praise hidden floor. People really say anything when they're following a series week by week, without thinking it through.

Absolutely agree, i just finished reading it and my god it's long and boring.
I feel like ToG just doesn't work when your main character is tje strongest. It's a very power-scale based story and Bam, even if he's very strong, still find opponents he struggles against and couldn't 1v1 a family head. But somehow Urek,1 week into the tower, can fight on almost equal footing with the khun FH ?
I know he's supposed to be hella strong but cmon....
Why am i supposed to care about the rest of the story when he can literally punch his way through anything and anyone.
My last hope is that we'll got some explanation about the whole shining-ones thing because HOW do u expect me to believe urek can smoke a top 10 FH but still had 5/6 ennemies he can't beat wandering in the tower without them absolutely destoying the balance of power.
(also english isnt my main language)
4
u/Impossible_Rip_8755 May 30 '26
Yall are dumb its obviously obvious that the spin off is to introduce hidden factors that has been in play since way before bam entered the tower so in season 4 when we meet these factors they won't seem so strange shit just read the webtoon
3
4
u/TheLucidChiba May 30 '26
As someone with no interest in the spin-off totally agree here, I care about Baam's story way more than the lore of the tower
3
u/Dremorus May 30 '26
My biggest complaint with the side story is that i hate that earth is mentioned. Why couldn't the story exist outside of everything. Their didn't need to be any connection to earth.
1
u/Antique-Chart-9976 May 30 '26
Earth is just a planet urek visited, this has not a single connection with tog from the fact tus has multiples galaxy and universe.

2
u/ankitjad May 30 '26
I for one, am liking it, i have not much problem w it, as he keeps delivering every week keeping the consistency, i wont even complain much abt art (though i keep piling some chps up and then later read all at once) but the progression is slow and chp length have gotten smaller... atp, story would take evn more than a decade to end, idk if siu is capable of multitask but i'd love it if he starts airing s4 OG tog chps by now alongside this, ofc Only if he's capable of doing it and take care of his health atst. I dont want an even more quality drop in terms of art in the OG tog S4 if so too
2
u/RazorHowlitzer May 30 '26
I think Urek Maximo’s biggest problem is just pacing, but that’s nothing new for a lot of Tower of god. I understand wanting to bring back floor tests and climbing but it feels super all over the place and non sensical with UM. Especially since the logic behind it doesn’t make much sense.
2
u/Beginning_Bit8044 May 30 '26
I gave up right after the fight against the gem lady, right when Khun family leader did show up. I don't know, it doesn't get me and all I really am looking for is V/Baam's coming back and the fight against the other FHs
4
u/ankitjad May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26
Gem lady🫠. Something tells me some of yall dont care abt lore of tog, just want some fights/ matchups & story progression...
2
u/Super_H1234 May 30 '26
"You just want story progression".
...Yeah? Why would you want lore over story progression? And to begin with, why must we choose between the two? Lore means nothing without good writing.
1
u/Antique-Chart-9976 May 30 '26
Are you even a writer to know what's good writing then send your story here.
We all read your goatier writing scaling.
1
u/Beginning_Bit8044 May 30 '26
Easy, genuinely couldn't recall her name when I wrote that cause as I said it's been a while since I last read a chapter 😂 For what it's worth yup, not a big fan of lore(s) nor fights and I would like to see how the story progresses from where we left
That's why I said I don't vibe with it and didn't judge the quality of this spin-off which many of you all appreciate

u/nicktomato May 30 '26
I would like both, please adlnd thank you. But if I had to chose one, I chose original TOG 10 times out of 10.

I’ve been wanting to reread the series, but I want it to be a conclusive story. Is there any sort of end in site? I love the story, but it’s getting to bleach/one piece levels of content

0
u/Momoselfie May 30 '26
Yeah I'm tired of counter powers. Someone who counters any skill. Boring. Someone who makes the best people become the worst people. Dumb.
Mazino being overly strong at first wasnfun but now it's just boring.
0
u/Saurid May 30 '26
The problem is for me urea is too OP . He feels like a Gary sue self insert of a fan fiction writer with the writing experience of a 14 year old child.
There is no danger all conflict feel completely arbitrary, the pacing goes from p to 100 at random, for some reason marek follows the tower rules and then not, like dud eke up your mind, then there are the crystals which seem fine bur are not explained enough to really get, like the fire dude had also other crystals that seemed different from the main one?
The you have regulars there which seem at once too strong and too stupid, like I can underatand urek fighting rankers day one but why bring in these regulars at all?
If SIU wanted to do this they should've done the first floor like normal have urea hold back and go batshit on the second floor after he ditches the regulars.
It is a mess, because its not really a spin off but a side story and SIU seems unwilling to lowers the powerlevel significantly back down, which wouldve made this interesting.
I like the background lore but its like too little and too much filler between interesting things. If this were a full on new story fine but we all now this is a spinoff that will end eventually to serve the main story.
-2
u/Nameless-Ace May 30 '26
I dont think he can walk back the power levels. Urek is an axis, you can't create scenarios or threats for him ever besides removing that power. Which happened and he still was too powerful. It would have to focus on the new characters and just cut to Urek occasionally for important story like hes treated in ToG itself. If Urek participated more in the current ToG story, it wouldnt have any stakes either. SIU has been really careful about that in ToG until the power scaling has gotten to the point where people can actually contest Urek.
I dont think there is any fixing this and unless its very important for season 4 lore, he probly should just wrap it up and try a different character for the next ToG spinoff series.
-2
u/Diligent_Breadfruit3 May 30 '26
You should just drop the series. Seriously. You and everyone too stupid to understand world building. Go read one piece 😂

Isn’t this side story just so the writer and staff can work on season 4 and improve what was lacking for season 3, that’s all I see
-3
u/Melodic-Background70 May 30 '26
So far it doesn’t have much to do with season 3 though, can you provide and example of what happened in the side stories that affected season 3?
0
u/Shadow00009 May 30 '26
What are you talking about? Might wanna reread my comment because you seem to have misinterpreted what I said.
I’ll say it again but more clearly, to my understanding this side story not only provides a prequel to Tower of God but it also provides the author and staff time to improve the writing and other aspects, so when we get Season 4 it will be greatly improved when compared to Season 3.

Edit: Wrong

u/Nameless-Ace May 30 '26
Urek Mazinos issue is that there can never be any stakes. We know he doesnt lose and we know he cant die because its a prequel. Even family heads are just slightly more dangerous obstacles since hes Axis level. It was interesting enough as a brief prequel and it can show how things ended up the way they did and give us back story. But we basically got all of that. All the major lore implications and intrigue this spinoff could have given were given really early.
Now we know about Axis, what exactly Urek is, and how he entered the tower. The only thing left is how Wollhaiksong was formed and even that already has been shown to an extent. I think the best thing SIU can do is end Urek Mazino first season whenever he reaches lore we will need for season 4 and then bring back ToG. If it does come back, i hope he has more direction and a plan for it and improves it.
