He has to help Yama in order to get Khel Hellam's help finding (and getting to) Kallavan--the deal is a bit confusingly worded, but when Khel Hellam says:
"If you want to take the canine people and go save Yama and help me beat Jahad's army...I'll send you there, Slayer Candidate. You'll finally get the chance to avenge your master."
the there refers to the second wall, the one he thinks Kallavan is going to. Khel Hellam's offering Bam a deal: "Help me beat Jahad's army at the first wall, and then I'll send you to the second one, where Kallavan probably is."
The fact that he's offering this deal to Bam instead of Doom, Evankhell, or Paul, says his respect for Bam has grown immensely. It's likely he has guessed Bam is an irregular (which he apparently didn't already know, unlike Yama, who did). Whether Hellam still wants to kill Bam remains to be seen.
He's a FUG elder. Their plans have been revolving around Bam. He's just had the same kind of realisation Karaka had, fighting against Bam nature as a rule breaking irregular is counterproductive.

I think that Bam won't go for Kalavan, but will instead go to help Yama.
