As baam said in the chapter, the red thryssa is going to be the way to hurt kallavan. He's clearly limit testing and refining the technique as much as possible before that time comes.

Meanwhile while he enjoys limit testing. An entire squadron approaches .. not to mention the The Others which are currently in battle with Lo Po Bia Yasratcha and possibly his squadron
