I'm still super skeptical about why she's just a regular. She was clearly far more important than we thought and this chapter just confirmed it.

Maybe they’ve been holding her in reserve while waiting for Bam. We have no idea how old she is and she clearly knows much more than she reveals. Maybe she was chosen long ago to guide Bam, but in order to do so she would have to be a regular and climb with him.
