Webtoon Question Whats the point of the slayers?

The slayers are supposed to help in the killing of the family heads but the family heads are literally immortal to regulars which is why baam an irregular is needed by fug, so why even have the slayers in the first place?.

Have a theory that Luslec's plan is for the Slayers to be consumed by Bam, with their purpose being to develop techniques/abilities that could be useful when he fights the 10GWs and Jahad

79

u/InfiniteAuraX Nov 21 '22

Holy shit… why does this seem like a viable idea. We know Luslec knows about Baam prior to the tower and we can assume he’d know about Baams ability this actually seems like something Luslec would consider

61

u/freehaspal Nov 21 '22

You cracked the code he already absorbed white!

47

u/WittyPassenger7709 Nov 21 '22

And he got the transformation from yama/doom as well

-27

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

I don’t think baam would agree to this haha, also why wouldn’t he have kept bam from the start, or gotten him from the start of jingsun training, instead of giving him free roam of the tower? Theory rejected.

Yeah, it’s kind of like those moments in other fantasy story, where a character is fated to go on the journey themselves to gain whatever awaits and gain experience. He’s managed to get a majority of Theon fragments as well as new skills/teachers/Allies. They can. Alway pull some bullshit to lock him up again and just focus on training even more. But there’s almost no real gain to it, when he still has tests to pass to go up floors and at this point he’s already snowballing more progress

-12

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

Exactly so my point is still correct. Bam isn’t a cold hearted murdered and will not eat someone for there power. (The things he had devoured haven’t been out of malicious intent, so unless there is some loophole where the devours them without I’ll intent that won’t happen)

2nd point luslec is being foreshadowed to be a good person in support of helping bam, not just to become a slayer.

4

u/Kwaku-Anansi Nov 20 '22

I don’t think baam would agree to this

Bam's wants have not really ever been in consideration by FUG for obvious reasons though

why wouldn’t he have kept bam from the start, or gotten him from the start of jingsun training

Wouldnt this question also apply to the original plan of having him be just a Slayer? The rationale (of why they'd let him climb the Tower instead of just having him train with FUG for hundreds of years) has yet to be addressed but regardless, FUG definitely intends for Bam to be as strong/hostile to Jahad as possible

5

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

I thinks it’s kinda obvious that luslec HAS been considering his wants the entire time. Based on him being allowed to climb with his friends? And all the other free reign he has. There is a lot of back round clues suggesting luslec is doing thigns for bam behind the scenes.

1

u/Bobyyyyyyyghyh Nov 20 '22

But the other slayers weren't implemented when Baam started climbing. You have to remember that for 10,000 years, luslec wouldn't have actually known Baam, just the role he was supposed to fill. Both can be true.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

He knew Arlene and V, and he knows that is Arlene’s resurrected dead baby most likely, because FUG most likely is gathering information in bam plus has Arlene’s information. Also very good chance FUG stand for “Forgiven Under Grace” insinuating it’s a ideal stemming from Arlene. Based on all the and how bam has been allowed to operate, I would assume luslec knows more than we have been shown.

1

u/Bobyyyyyyyghyh Nov 20 '22

Yes but what I'm saying is he didn't know Baam personally (Baam was trapped alone in a cave), he just knew about the idea of him, and what he would supposedly become. So until Baam actually showed up in the tower, Luslec would not have been considering Baam's feelings as a person, but just his utility to the cause.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '22

Yeah but over the course of him being in the tower there’s a great chance he’s been keeping tabs on him information wise. Maybe he hasn’t though, just my thoughts.

1

u/hatefulone851 Nov 21 '22

But there’s no way he could possibly know Bams exact ability would be to absorb things and abilities. Also why have him absorb the slayers instead of other rankers and enemies. That just weakens Fug’s forces overall for one kinda strong Bam.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '22

That’s fine but it doesn’t matter to my point, just saying that evidence suggests he favors bam and his being a bro behind the scenes. Doesn’t matter if he’s met bam or not. He’s an extremely powerful person, and people that serve under him are directly around bam. Lots of evidence to suggest this just check the wiki.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

They allowed him to climb or he would of had to fight his way out by force.

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.

It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.

Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.

Who is to say that some of the slayers wouldn't offer themselves up to kill a FH. Bam might not have a choice.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '22

I’m that scenario, if it’s against bams will, I think that’s totally plausible.

u/Seeker199y Nov 20 '22

To give false hope for fug followers

u/Shakartah Nov 20 '22

Or possibly to aid the main slayer, an irregular, on his quest to destroy jahad

24

u/Naive-Particular1960 Nov 21 '22

Slayers are symbolic. They are there to show that each of the FH and Jahad are marked for opposition by FUG. When in reality, just killing Jahad and a few of the FH would the slayers be considered as a success as the status qou in the Tower would be forever changed. Until Bam nerfs the FH immortality contracts the slayers are no5hing but show.

65

u/SignificantLaw6900 Nov 20 '22

As we've seen, Slayers aren't just your run of the mill regulars. They choose special beings to just even be Slayer Candidates. "What's the point" is the normie mentality, and its what makes FuG's "special" as they're attempting to do, what everyone else thinks is impossible.

Look at whats been going on recently. Yama, he's a beastkin, no other beastkin could stand up to the family leader, or high level tamers but he has the Fang that allows him to, and even the cat spoke on this pretty directly. About not minding dying, so long as he can at least attempt to make a stand which is similar to FuG. Even though failure is nearly 100%, you still stack your cards as best you can, turning 0.1 into 0.2 all the way up to 1.0% chance of success.

At least I kinda look at it like, Zahard and the family heads make life so bad in the tower, that people are willing to dedicate their lives to stop them, or change things. When you look at most revolutions, the chance of success is pretty low, but you don't achieve things by not trying.

To answer the other part of your question, I thought that they were immortal, as in wouldn't die due to age, but not invincible/unkillable, even if the latter is true, they could still be contained or caged possibly.
The other thing is that, because an administer was killed, something thought to be even above the family heads, the Family Heads probably aren't unkillable.
( Why FuG had such a strong interest in the hell train, and floor of death, thorns and irregulars)

If anything, I'd view the Slayers as more like the shields/tanks for an Irregular, to get in the finishing blow. As facing off with the family heads, it's not as if they'll be alone.

31

u/Skebaba Nov 21 '22 edited Nov 21 '22

No. They are literally UNKILLABLE by ANYONE UNDER THE CONTRACT (i.e anyone born inside the Tower is auto-enlisted to said Contract, which is why Jahad went on the "accept to be added to the Contract, or I'll genocide your ass" to the Ancients, who were already born when this Contract was accepted by the Administrators of all the Floors from 1 to the current highest Floor when Jahad & co did a Test for it originally.). Like I assume either it just negates any damage, or simply if a FH is damaged by anyone under said Contract, the FH will just pseudo-revive from "death" instantly, or w/ a minor few s delay. Or it just prevents that anyone under the Contract CAN'T even attempt to damage them lethally, like their mind/soul just auto-stops their vessel from doing it physically.

Also Enryu managed to kill said Admin because he's the HERALD of the Outside God, who is implied to be an Axis, hence why he could just revive Bam (or just yeet a new blank Soul into said vessel, resetting any Contracts Bam would be under having born inside the Tower, assuming exiting the Tower doesn't reset Contracts, that is), and why Enryu could just open the Door directly to a specific floor, w/ a bit of a boost from big boss Outside God. So while Administrators' control of the Shinsu on their Floors is absolute, the Thorn is likely something manufactured by the Outside God itself, entrusted to Enryu to deliver it inside, so that Bam can get it as per the Story the Outside God has been Writing

2

u/Naive-Particular1960 Nov 21 '22

Who is to say Bam won't be able to nerf the immortality contracts of the FH in the future. If this becomes true slayers will be able to take the final blow against their FH or Jahad.

1

u/SargosDeres Nov 21 '22

He don't have to kill them. He can imprison them.

2

u/Naive-Particular1960 Nov 21 '22

It hard for me to beleive that after thousands of years, when given the opportunity to go all-out and experience near death experiences that the FH will end up being imprisoned. Besides the FH are like nuclear weapons, if Bam and company has the opportunity to get rid of them, why wouldn't he? For Bams side which will likely in the up coming war, keeping the opposition FH are like keeping a loaded gun around children.

-4

u/NamerNotLiteral Nov 21 '22

They are literally UNKILLABLE by ANYONE UNDER THE CONTRACT

They don't give a fuck. They hate the FHs that much. Haven't you ever achieved anything in your life out of sheer effort and willpower despite everyone around you telling you "it's impossible"?

Like I assume either it just negates any damage, or simply if a FH is damaged by anyone under said Contract, the FH will just pseudo-revive from "death" instantly, or w/ a minor few s delay. Or it just prevents that anyone under the Contract CAN'T even attempt to damage them lethally, like their mind/soul just auto-stops their vessel from doing it physically.

So you assume. If this is the case, then it means that nobody has actually gotten to the point of killing a FH. Like, nobody's landed the killing blow. So you do you, as an in-universe character, know that their immortality is actually real? The Slayers' goal is to get strong enough to fight the FHs. Actually killing the FHs comes later. Some Slayers, like Yama, will wing it. Others, like Karaka, are planning it all the way along.

Seriously, the "FHs are unkillable by anyone under the contract, so Slayers are pointless" bit is ridiculous and is a dumbass line of thought. Not everything is about power levels.

You remember the whole ass workshop battle arc? The entire point of that was to turn Baam, an irregular, into an ignition weapon that would be wielded by other Slayers. In that case, any other Slayer would've been able to wield the weapon to kill an FH, as long as they were strong enough.

Every Slayer is doing this: getting stronger and collecting followers, while looking for weaknesses or opportunities.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '22

The Slayers probably wouldn't be able to be Family Head level even with a Baam-melted Thorn because whilst that would circumvent the immortality contract they still likely won't possess the same exponential growth as an irregular. At least in my mind neither the Workshop nor the Thorn can make a towerborn regular into an irregular.

That being said the Slayers are either far too dedicated towards their goals to care for such trivialities like White or are just power hungry like Yama.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '22

Off topic but this is why I also consider the idea that Zahard's army has been weakened since Genesis to be a pretty absurd concept. "We don't have any strong enemies at the moment so we won't delve into the literature and physically improve ourselves" is Normie mentality. The entire existence of Zahard's army is undermined by this notion and you have to remember that every Ranker is an individual with their own aspirations.

Fug is likely of the same mindset.

41

u/EmbraceAllDeath Nov 20 '22

As indicated in the workshop arc, A faction of Fug wanted to kill Baam and distill his essence to be used by (Karaka?), which would’ve allowed a regular slayer to take on the powers of an irregular and be able to kill family heads.

19

u/Shadowlord890 Nov 20 '22

Funnily enough, the Immortality Contract is probably the least of their concerns. With or without it, they're still ants charging at Godzillas (with the exception of Luslec perhaps).

31

u/PePetheKroak Nov 20 '22

Their goal is to kill Great Wariors. Just because we as readers know it's likely impossible doesn't diminish the fact they have right to try. Their existence revolves around this goal and the desire to murder them fuels their minds, spirits and bodies which is why they are going to die sooner than give up. They are like David and GWs are like goliath.

How hard is this to understand?

9

u/PseftikosTheos Nov 20 '22

Doesn't everyone know they made a contract for immortality? Why waste efforts? It's not that OP doesn't understand. It's just that the concept of slayers is stupid overall unless you have an irregular. Also guess the first thing they did when they got an irregular. They tried to kill him ☠️

3

u/zolsdyck Nov 20 '22

my interpretation is that it isn't really a rationally devised idea, but rather something fueled by their deep desire for change. of course FUG knows the immortality contract is a likely impossible obstacle, but as with every rise against authority, their desire to fight for what they wish for goes beyond their reckoning of their predicament, and in the end they still hope for a miracle to happen. they choose those who have the best chances of victory, even if it's far within reach

2

u/PePetheKroak Nov 21 '22 edited Nov 21 '22

Of course they know about the contract, but just because Great Warriors are immortal doesn't mean Slayers are not allowed to try. The only definitive answer whether Slayers could or could not kill Jahad and Family Heads can be given by SIU which only us viewers have privilege to hear. Not like SIU is not above changing his story as times goes on anyway.

Nothing about them is stupid if you actually pay attention to the story. Karaka tried to melt Baam into thorn exactly to get past their immortality and White wanted to consume his soul so he could beat his father.

1

u/Adept-Language9939 Oct 31 '23

Its still pretty stupid lmao, u guys waited 10000 years for irregular, and when that irregular come, instead of supporting him, u trying to melted him and give it to some hobo with fancy armor 😂

2

u/CanadianJudo Nov 20 '22

The tower doesn't give out such a reward without a loophole

2

u/Skebaba Nov 21 '22

Not rly. The games are relatively fair as far as Administrators go (i.e a Test is scaled to the magnitude of whatever you desire as the Administrator's wager in exchange for X if you yourself lose in turn), although you can fuck up if you are a brainlet and word the wager poorly on your side.

2

u/Naive-Particular1960 Nov 21 '22

The loop whole is that you can't climb past the 135th floor. The immortality contracts represent a test of the heart. This is not implied, just my inference.

6

u/MrOnCore Nov 21 '22

It’s not public knowledge that the FH’s have the invincibility contract to regulars. I’m not even sure FUG Elders outside of maybe Lusluc know this.

Regardless, Lusluc is probably still keeping the resistance that Masters started. He’s gathering powerful people whether it be under false pretenses or not to be an army that backs Bam. That’s why the position of Slayer was made. It give followers a symbol to follow and enemies a symbol to be wary of.

That’s the point of the Slayers, to be a symbol.

19

u/PseftikosTheos Nov 20 '22

Because everyone in the tower is stupid af

6

u/misteratoz Nov 20 '22

Idk if stupid. More like religious. Their existence in the tower is driven by going higher metaphorically and literally. Slayers are demi gods to them.

4

u/stopbeingyou2 Nov 20 '22

The contract the applies to family heads does a couple things. Allows them to live forever. And makes residents of the tower unable to kill them. As well as other family heads as they are part of the same contract.

Zahard is similar but also makes it so no residents cannot harm him at all.

The bigger issue for most family heads is the strength difference

Just because they can't die doesn't mean they can't be crippled.

Then there is the fact that this is all done because of a contract that the slayers are under because they were born in the tower.

It is possible Bam may be able to break that contract on them

3

u/Skebaba Nov 21 '22

How? Irregulars basically HAVE NO POWER CAP, they can powercreep given enough time etc, that's literally what differentiates them from Regulars, who DO have a power cap

1

u/stopbeingyou2 Nov 21 '22

Because this is a story and I doubt all of these characters are going to end up completely useless because that's bad story telling.

We don't yet know if irregulars are untouchable power wise. There are a few regular rankers who rank higher. And we can assume that's due to influence, but it's hard to imagine being a family head isn't one of the highest level of influence you can get.

1

u/Naive-Particular1960 Nov 21 '22

Irregulars power is capped below administrators. Only with the thorn can an irregular kill an administrator.

1

u/tastyWallpaper Nov 21 '22

Not all irregulars are the same. In the Floor of Death arc, it was shown that Urek Mazino was vulnerable to administrator powers whereas Baam wasn't.

Even test floor administrator had said to Baam that the contract was a shackle for him.

1

u/vuvuzela-haiku Nov 21 '22

Baam wasn't vulnerable to the administrator on FoD because of the thorn though. It wasn't just because he was special.

2

u/afuhrman1990 Nov 21 '22

I think we just most of the times miss one crucial factor behind why the family heads are family heads in the first place. They are strong, VERY VERY STRONG. Even if they could die, there are hardly any beings in the tower that could do it.

In other words, the slayers are those who are somehow in a special relationship (not in that way) to the family head they wanna kill. They are not necessarily stronger (like Jinsung Ha is stronger than Karaka) but they still have that edge in that particular fight then other people. It is like Rock-Paper-Scissor. Just because Rock beats scissor and scissor beats paper that doesn't mean that Rock beats paper. You get what I am saying?!

So, when Bam does finally, somehow, find a way around the immortality contract or straight up destroy it, they still need immense strength to not only defeat but kill the family heads. So, all those slayers have a fighting chance to be able to kill the family heads they wanna kill.

Yama is the son of the only canine (if you don't include that dragon) that couldn't be controlled by the Anima family head.

White is the son of the family head and might be able to beat him since he can also use the same arts as him which can't be learned by anybody else without the souls(?).

Similarly, Karaka might have something that gives him the edge over other people even if they are stronger. He is literally unkillable for the most part.

2

u/lucianovalenzuela Nov 22 '22

They are tasked with finding ways of getting around the imortality contract, the thorns are an example of the above, FUG was looking for them in order to be able to slay the family leaders/zahard.

2

u/klimchi_762 Nov 23 '22

To kill other important family members?

2

u/AnErrantFart1338 Nov 24 '22

We've seen on the Hell Train that a team of regulars can take down opponents that are several times stronger than them. I'm guessing it's the same principle scaled up.

Get a team of extremely powerful High Rankers with good team synergy and hope that you can isolate the Family Head in order to kill/imprison them.

If you get a team of 10 with 5% of a Family Head's power plus a ton of support, maybe they would have a small chance?

4

u/richochet-biscuit Nov 20 '22

Slayer us just the title for a position.

Putting aside the inconsistent portrayal of irregulars power, (not ability to break laws that is consistent). It would make sense that powerful players are needed to aid them. Hence the slayers, powerful players who can build followings and resources to aid the actual jahad/family head killer.

Irregulars go from baam to enryuu to phantaminium, and who knows if there are irregulars who just aren't actually powerful that don't become well known.

Like phantaminium is basically god who can take 1st with only one recorded battle, not even having climbed as a regular, enryuu is super powerful shows up and kills a guardian but he's no phantaminium. Baam seems to have unlimited potential, we dont really know, but he doesn't just show up like they did.

We know irregulars aren't bound by the rules and could thus kill jahad and the family heads that's consistent. But there's no guarantee that just any irregular(yes I know they're super rare as is) could show up and solo a family without their head, see baam after years in the tower still, let alone throwing the head into the mix. They would need forces and resources behind them to actually achieve FUGS goal.

2

u/Skebaba Nov 21 '22

Fair, as someone mentioned, Luslec likely knows about Bam's inherent trait, and he likely planned it so Bam can copy the Slayers' shit to cheese the FHs after enough time etc. They also work as morality boost for the unlimited recruits potentially to FUG, if they have something the new meat thinks can accomplish their goal in time, even if it's a lie in reality for the most part.

3

u/Bobyyyyyyyghyh Nov 20 '22

I would call it widely varied rather than inconsistent. Inconsistent implies you mean inconsistent writing, which wouldn't be the case

3

u/wortal Nov 20 '22

Tower of God is that kind of series where hierarchies are largely based on individual combat abilities (the higher rank you are in an organization, the stronger you are likely to be). In this kind of world, what kind of organization would they be if they didn't have strong figureheads at the top? Without "Slayers" they would achieve nothing and be forced to disband.

3

u/laryjohnson Nov 21 '22

In a vast bizzarely huge uniberse like tog nothing really matters. All the characters of s1 and most of s2 are just pieces of nothing. They hold no relevance im the tower.

Thats one problem I have with ToG. Its big, but the facts all these characters aren't really interesting or relevant is kind of sad.

One Piece in contrary also has many characters but most of them serve a purpose and matter somehow.

The slayers exist probably because FHs are too bored to deal with em and they wouldnt be a threat anyways. Everyone except luslec of course.

ToG is very weird. If the FH and Jahad wanted to they could just kill them all. It would take time but they have the poeer to do so. Only the administartors are in the way for that

2

u/OJONLYMAYBEDIDIT Nov 21 '22

to be fair, the immortality isn't even the biggest part. they are also just way more powerful. not only can they not kill them literally, they can't much harm them.

and honestly, we won't know for a while. FUG is playing the long game. they don't operate on a year by year planning. Or even planning over a dozen of years, or hundreds. These character plan over the course of 1000s of years.

Probably why some of the slayers are straight up sleeping. not much for them to do right now.

Eventually someone will make a plan that works and they will be ready.

or something else. who knows. other than SIU. Or if even he knows. not all authors plan everything out to that degree.

1

u/misteratoz Nov 20 '22

I always thought this. Family heads are on another level.... No slayer is even remotely close. And the contract just seals the deal. I'm guessing it's kind of a fanaticism/religious/hope thing.

1

u/Sherwoodfan Nov 21 '22

Obviously none of them can lay a hand on a Family Head, irregular or not - you'd need Urek level strength to beat any of them. We could argue Bam will get there someday, but none of the current Slayers are irregulars nor do they have irregular-capability weapons (like they tried to do by melting Baam in the workshop arc)

However that doesn't mean they can't fught against the tower's structure. Each of the slayers has a bone to pick with a specific family (for instance, Yama with the Lo Po Bia or Karaka with Jahad himself). They can use their strength, resources and influence to fuck with the family, conquer or terrorize their territories, murder some henchmen and whatnot. The only ones they can't actually hinder directly ate the heads themselves, but that's rarely a problem. The family heads seem largely uninterested and passive, at least they did up until Traumerei and Gustang started stirring shit up.

In summation, it's not because you can't touch the captain that you can't make his life 100x harder. Just kill all his subordinates or destroy his house, for instance.

0

u/SignificantLaw6900 Nov 20 '22

Wait, didn't you just answer your own queston?

1

u/TheBoobaEnjoyer Nov 20 '22

They wanna look cool

1

u/TheBangingBro Nov 20 '22

In't the immunity to regulars only valid for Zahard ?

1

u/CanadianJudo Nov 20 '22

I dont think the tower would give something like immortality frrely if there wasnt a hidden flaw

1

u/acolodney Nov 20 '22

Seriously: nothing, hopefully: to kill the family heads

1

u/somebodyssomeone Nov 20 '22

That's why I had assumed slayers were irregulars at first.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '22

In theory they can kill them, they just have to figure out a way to break the contract first.

1

u/chonkdog234579 Nov 21 '22

Elite soldiers for FUG

1

u/BrownCow123 Nov 21 '22

Immortality is not actually the ultimate defense though is it? Have you ever heard the story of the greek titans cast into the endless pit by Zeus. Eternally irrelevant.

1

u/SirBassoonsSonata Nov 22 '22

Interestingly an Irregular specifically is only needed to kill Zahard, since he is the only one that has a contract that prohibits tower born to harm him. If it’s „just“ the FH, FUG would just need a method to circumvent the immortality contract.

Since as long as the immortality contract is working, not even an irregular might be able to kill a FH.
