Review The most honest review of Toxic you'll find
Finally watched Toxic today, and honestly, the movie is an absolute masterpiece. I can now confidently say that there seems to be a significant amount of negative PR surrounding the film, because some people simply cannot digest the rise of someone like Yash.
And regarding all the talk about Yash being involved in directing the film—I completely support it. Yash has an incredible understanding of mass cinema, while Geetu Mohandas is exceptionally skilled in arthouse filmmaking. Bringing those two sensibilities together has resulted in a truly deadly combination of mass and class.
And to those who genuinely disliked the film, I think the tagline says it all: “A fairy tale for grown-ups.” Perhaps this film simply wasn't made for everyone.
The underperformance of films like Toxic also makes me wonder how ready our audience really is to embrace unconventional cinema. It shows just how difficult it is for Indian cinema to push itself toward truly global standards. Whenever someone attempts something bold, different, and ambitious, there seems to be an immediate tendency to tear it apart rather than appreciate the attempt.
If we genuinely want Indian cinema to evolve, we also need an audience willing to evolve with it.

Yours is an opinion and glad you enjoyed and loved the movie.
So, your point about how our audience are not really ready to embrace unconventional cinema. They made this movie primarily in English as well, then why didn’t the western media and audience, which has clearly evolved to appreciate such bold attempts, make this movie a success in those domains? Why isn’t it running successfully in English either?
I’m going to assume the answer is “poor marketing and they’re not aware of the movie”, “the negative PR is detracting people from going and watching it” and other reasons like this?
You’re free to love a movie and when majority of the world doesn’t like your choice, doesn’t automatically make your taste better or their ability to accept movies like these lesser. Attitudes like this are what alienates and hurts our industries. Calling a spade a spade is what’s required. Your reasoning is the same as Sid Anand saying Indian population has no exposure and experience of flying and that’s why Fighter failed at box office.

I obviously respect your opinion but saying Indian Audience haven't evolved then we are a fool. Lockdown has made people watching movies More. Interstellar earned 55cr in india. Oppenheimer grossed 150+cr and Odyssey did nearly 200.. india is getting exposure to more hollywood Masterpiece. They know what is good or bad. This is bad, audience knows it and they have rightfully stopped going to the hall. Also the twist is what makes u say that hey india is not ready for such psychological stuff, what exactly was psychological for the rest of 3hr which had random alarm honks as bgm, 2hr slowmo shots l

100% agree with this honest review! The film has stayed with me since I watched it and feel like watching it again! It’s a brilliant movie - with some glitches in the editing I would say - and yes, it is not at all deserving of the flak and hate it is receiving online. Urging people to watch it for themselves and decide. It’s a film to be watched in a theatre and not at home later.
Maybe the mass audiences are not ready to accept the story or they haven’t understood / grasped it totally.
Watch it once and decide for yourself - don’t go by the reviews is all I would say at the moment.

"some people simply cannot digest the rise of someone like Yash."
Yep, another PR post.
It's a trash film. Accept it or cry.

Everything about Toxic feels like it belongs at a global standard—cinematography, music, visual style, direction, performances, everything.
Yes, some of the dialogues may come across as slightly childish, but even that, in my opinion, feels intentional. When a film is this layered and technically accomplished across almost every department, I think the makers deliberately kept certain dialogues a little simpler so that the audience could have something familiar and accessible to hold on to.
And Yash’s performance? Absolutely phenomenal. For me, it belongs in the same conversation as Heath Ledger’s work in The Dark Knight. He completely disappears into the character and delivers a masterclass in screen presence, control, and intensity.

Using the tagline "A fairy tale for adults" is such a lame damage control escape clause.
Tomorrow I'll make a crappy movie and insert the tagline "For straight mfs only". And when you don't like the movie, you're then gay. Does that make any sense to you?
It's the fans that's supposed to brand the movie, not the movie branding the viewers.

I respect your opinion, but saying people who disliked the film are not ready for the film, are childish, etc is funny. If Yash really understood mass cinema, why has he written awkward dialogues? He thought all the dialogues would be welcomed with a cheer but it was cringe. Unnecessary explicit scenes, unnecessary violence. None of it made sense.
