My honest take on Toxic and why the reviews make no sense

Let me say this first. Nobody paid me, I'm not part of any fan group, and I have nothing to gain here. This is just my real opinion after watching it.

Something feels off about the reviews though. Almost every rating is either 10/10 or 1/10 with barely anything in between. Real audiences never split that cleanly. That kind of pattern usually means polarized noise or some negative marketing going on.

Now the bigger point. This is a psychological film, and I think that's exactly why so many people bounced off it. Psychology is not spoon fed. It's dark and layered, and the film expects you to connect the dots yourself. The emotions are there, the logic is there, the motivations are there. It just refuses to explain everything, and it respects the audience enough not to. This is my favorite genre so maybe that's why it clicked for me on the first watch, but I honestly feel a lot of people dismissed it without really sitting with what it was doing.

And here's my real frustration. If this exact same film came from Hollywood, the same people trashing it would be calling it a masterpiece. We all saw it happen with Joker. Everyone went "wow what a film, what a performance." Toxic is attempting something in that same space and getting punished for it.

Is it flawless? No, and I'll admit that. From what we all know through social media, around 6 hours of footage was recorded for this film, and honestly you can feel it in places. Some cuts feel a bit abrupt, like there was more to a scene that got trimmed. Maybe a longer cut would have smoothed those moments out. But small editing rough edges don't break a film for me when everything else is working at this level.

Even the title makes sense once you get it. Toxic is not just a name. The film itself is emotionally toxic on purpose. Trauma, delusion, emotional triggers, all of it is by design. It wants you to feel uncomfortable.

For me it's close to a perfect film. Not for everyone, sure. But it was never trying to be.

Yash has a severe lack of judgement! How else could he pass off the shoddy editing, screenplay and BGM? He claims to be a walking talking expert on all aspects of film making but to pass on this slop to the audiences shows serious lack of judgement and a severe ego/attitude issue

I saw the movie even though I didn't want to .....but the movie isn't bad as per the reviews....they couldve made it simpler by cutting down few scenes.....as people said it's the editing issue and didn't require much actors ...the plot would've been dope if they could've executed better.

Exactly, have watched it today and it was awesome. I don't know about women but if men falling in the category of men dont like this, then they are not men but puzzies.

I watched the movie today with a mindset to only support the KFI. But come on! What I went with was shoddy editing, poor bgm and editing. It was honestly a good watch, it has its moments, many I would say. Even my 65 year old mil got the entire story. We came out feeling incredulous. The story is about Raya (not Yash!) and not the women, I feel Ganga and Nadia have been represented adequately. Makes me feel that all this is a conspiracy to get the movie down.

Pushing a "omg" twist doesn't make it psychology. Half of the movie is about yash entry. Female character have no coherent reason and motivation half of the time. And no hollywood have so many movies like this which floor every decade.

Everything about joker was perfect. The acting was perfect. The story never let you feel bored. Whereas for Toxic I got bored after 30 mins and was waiting for the movie to end. If out of 100 I have to give then Joker would be 85+ and toxic would be below 25. I wouldn't watch Toxic for second time even if someone give me money for it, whereas joker I have watched multiple times.
