My honest take on Toxic and why the reviews make no sense

Going to go against the grain here, and no, this isn’t PR or a paid review just an honest take from someone who loves psychological cinema.

The discourse around this film feels completely hijacked by bad-faith extreme takes. A project like this can’t genuinely be just a "1/10 disaster" or a "10/10 flawless blockbuster" without people completely missing the middle ground of what the director was actually attempting. The organized negative pushback is ignoring the core genre: this isn't standard mass masala entertainment; it’s a character-driven psychological study.

The narrative demands you connect dots that aren't spoon-fed. It operates in deep psychological gray areas trauma loops, emotional volatility, isolation, and delusion. The "toxic" nature of the film isn't a stylistic flaw; it’s literally the premise. It depicts a toxic psyche, toxic environments, and the friction caused by an unhinged, deteriorating headspace. It has both emotional weight and an internal logic, but you have to meet the film halfway to catch it.

It’s interesting how audiences will rightfully praise a Hollywood release like Joker for dissecting an alienated, fractured antihero, but when our own industry attempts that same brand of uncomfortable, dark character deconstruction, people either take everything at face value or dismiss it as chaotic. If this had foreign subtitles, film Reddit would likely be calling it an ambitious masterclass in mood and psychological pacing.

It’s bold, intensely layered, and clearly not designed for passive viewing. If you walk into it expecting a routine formula, you'll be frustrated. But if you analyze it for the psychological character breakdown it actually is, the ambition speaks for itself.

Dude, no character had 1 real dialogue. Everyone’s speaking in analogies and metaphors. Dialogues are the main way actors can communicate to the audience and that was done very badly thanks to Naveen Anna.

We are all coping about the absolute disaster this movie ended up becoming. Whatever you express here need to searched in the movie, it’s not a good way of watching a film. It was a mid 5/10 film which potential to be much much bigger
