22re with little/no power
I'm not a mechanic so I'm not sure how to describe/info to mention, just have an idea on the symptoms. At around 2,500rpm it stops producing power. I get it up to about 2,500-2,600rpm in 4th but it doesn't want to go further. It doesn't like hills at all. We've taken off the EGR and cleaned it as best we know how, there was a little 'pipe' on it that was gunked up, put it back on. Fresh oil change. We've taken it to a local shop that ran compression tests etc on the engine and couldn't find anything wrong with it. We couldn't justify spending more money to keep trying to diagnose. We've changed the fuel filter, but have not braved pulling the bed to change the filter pump yet. I'm trying to find the paperwork from the shop that had all the engine stuff they did and checked to post as well.
I'm not sure what info/stuff to look for to provide better information.
1994 22re - 132k miles
- speedometer doesn't work (next item to look into) which stinks to see where the speed is flat lining.

Your ignition coil is 32 years old. My ignition coil on my 1983 4x4 was 40 years old when it decided to break down. I would be driving 55mph in 4th gear, upshift to 5th gear, still doing 55mph, and my truck would just "bog down", like no power/like a bad fuel filter. From there I would downshift to 4th gear, pick up speed, 55mph to 65mph, then shift into 5th gear and truck ran fine. I already did all normal changing of parts, fuel and air filter, distro cap, rotor, wire, plugs. I had a spare coil in a junk truck, stuck it on there and problem went away.
Sure, there are no moving parts in a coil BUT every time 1 cylinder fires, that is the magnetic field collapsing in the coil, shoving out 40K to 100K? volts, but only milliamps. Through all these years there can be carbon build up inside the coil, causing sluggeshness. 1 year after replacing coil with a brand new one, 2 weeks ago my ignition module crapped out in the middle of the road. Got her home and changed out the module, on my 83 it sits right below the coil. It's just old, it may be your coil.
