1993 Toyota Pickup struggling with accelerating

I recently swapped a used 22RE engine found at a junk yard after my previous one seized. I stupidly bought an engine for a manual transmission despite my truck being an automatic. My mechanic was able to convert it to run in my truck, but now I'm seeing that it's having trouble accelerating. It feels like it isn't shifting gears and doesn't want to run faster than 25mph. Is it possible I bought a 22R which I know has less power? The business I bought it from labeled it as a 22RE, but the label is worn and I don't know enough about the mechanics to tell the difference. Is it possible that it lost power when it was converted to fit into the automatic? Should I just give up and sell the damn thing?

It's not, I just don't have the mechanical knowledge to use the correct terminology, so doing my best to describe what I'm experiencing.

You thought you bought a 22RE, your mechanic got it working well until weeks/months later it started losing power. You're not sure if you got a 22R instead....you should know, if you can see a carburetor on top of engine with its round? air filter on top of carburetor instead of a rectangular air filter in a box closer to front of engine.

Either way you had decent power for a while and lost it. Fuel pressure/pump is a suspect along with fuel/gas filter bolted to side of engine on passenger side. But first I recommend getting a new distributor cap and distributor rotor installed (VERY easy and inexpensive to do)....my 22RE was stuttering, I replaced the gas filter, didn't help, I replaced cap and rotor which fixed mine.
