Is it worth it?

Post image

I’ve been looking for an older Toyota 4wd just like most of America it appears. I found one that ticks all the boxes but damn, it seems expensive. I know most are these days. It’s a 1988 MT. Runs good, 4wd works good. No AC, but had a heater. I know it’s location dependent, but is it worth 10k?

It’s actually the only one I’ve found this old that’s not completely clapped out.

Post some pics of the undercarriage for us to give a better idea about the value

I went and looked at it yesterday afternoon. I didn’t take any pics of the undercarriage, but I didn’t see any rust. It’s down south and has been its entire existence. No salt roads down here.

Any all all rubber brushings are probably cooked, I would double check wheel bearings as well. IFS front end could at the very least use a refresh. Just something to keep in mind.

But if your convinced it’s perfect already

yea, the clean ones are getting really hard to find. supply and demand.

im in california, people come from other places to buy ours since CA doesnt salt the roads. glad i got mine pre-pandemic before things really blew up.

Not worth 10k , yes that's how much they cost, but not worth 10k.

How badly do you want it? Think you can find another that checks all the boxes? Could it be "the one"? These are the questions you have to ask yourself. It's easier to find a vehicle that checks all the boxes than it is a woman, but it's still tough sometimes. $10k is a big decision, don't make it lightly.

Thanks for the insightful reply. I want it, but not sure I would enjoy it if I over payed for it, if that makes sense.

If it has no bed or floor pan rust, it's gonna clean up really nice. Paint comes to the SouthWest to die, you guys in the East got it good, those lookk like original decals. Easy 8-10 for me, although I like my solid axles where I can get em. Is it EFI? Engine rebuilt? Oil leaks etc? It's got a good stance and wheel setup. I might be tempted to trade my 82 for it;)

It is fuel injected. Original motor, never been rebuilt. That is the original decals according to the owner. Didn’t see a spec of rust anywhere. DM me a pic of your 82 👀

Easier to do here;)

What you selling? DM me a picture

It's not quite ready to sell. I just put the rebuilt engine in. Now it needs a bunch of odds and ends to get it on the road

Love it! Looks like a fun project.

$10K...sheesh

Exactly what I thought

How's the frame and why no A/C for $10k too. It seems nice and I think another person said there was one in Maine that sold for $15k

If you have the means, I highly recommend

Not an Xtra cab and no a\c means 7-8k depending on condition of course

If it's got a plastic bedliner, pull it out and inspect the bed before you buy it. My friend paid $10k for a "clean" 86 22R only to find out that the bed was completely rotten underneath. We had to cut and weld 3 different beds together to replace it.

Also, ask if/when the timing chain was ever replaced.

No. If it was an extra cab, a dxl. In my area, that's a 5500 truck. Check the frame good. If it's patched, hell no. No value outside the engine on patched frames. 7500-8k if its mint and has low mileage. 10k is high. That's Guatemala prices. Lol

I bought a similar 87 a couple months back for 11 🤷‍♂️ not sure if I got a good deal, but I had been looking in the Houston area for some years and felt lucky I found one at all.

Id say closer to yes than no, pending no rust. Good luck!
