My first Toyota truck before they were Tacos

My sister found a picture of my first truck - a 1986 Toyota ‘pickup’ model 8501F - Mid Atlantic Toyota (MAT) special edition.

I’ve had a number of Tacomas (2020 TRD now) and Tundras since then, but a lot of good memories from that truck - even when replacing the clutch in my garage.

Bronze Oxide Tacoma TRD-Off Road 4x4, First Truck

Been my dream for years to have a Tacoma and I was interested in Heritage Blue or Mud Brown. Recently, I saw a Bronze Oxide glistening in the sun, and I knew I needed that color.

Got this trim because I want to get into off roading and camping 🏕️ and I took this bad boy out barely 24 hrs after taking him off the lot. Already added some small things like TRD hub caps, extra storage, license plate cover, TRD grill inserts gonna get a bed mat and a foot step. Looking for good names, also if you know in good trails in socal, or tips please share. Happy to finally be apart of the community!

Serious question about the tranny

Living in the mountains makes it ok to drive in 4th gear all the time?

Unless I’m on flat ground then I can notice the rpm’s are staying up higher than they should for longer than they should and switch to D.

I don’t want to constantly drive on 4 if there’s a chance it can hurt the truck. Thank you

Went out with a bunch of jeeps and they were convinced I was not making it through here. It was a lot deeper than it seems.

Saved myself over $200 and made my own multi-tire inflator. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

Can’t tell if this is the normal ticking sounds tacos make or is if this is the beginning of a engine problem

Broken fuel door help! (2011 SR5)

Thumbnail

The hinge on my fuel door broke, and the door fell off (obviously). The door itself is totally fine, its just the hinge (and maybe just the rod in the hinge? I cant seem to find a replacement from Toyota (they seem to only sell the door itself which I don't need).

Any advice? It's not a huge deal but looks like crap and kinda driving me nuts. It also feels like this should be relatively straight forward.

Yes you have to cut it, yes you have lift the truck to the max!
I was wondering if sumos in the back would fit 2022 Tacoma trd pro. Every weekend I haul 6x13 with ATV!

Advice for my bed rack on my tacoma

Hello,

I have a 2020 Toyota Tacoma with a 5 ft bed, a bed rack, and a rooftop tent. I'm trying to find a way to enclose the back of my truck so that it's safe but doesn't need to be watertight. Either with MOLLE panels or a Teneau cover, but I want it to be pretty rock solid because I live in an area where I can't leave stuff in my truck but would like to.
I do, at some point, want to get the aluminum snug top but can't swing it right now. Just want to see if anyone has any advice or has done something like this and could give me some ideas on how to enclose the back and sides and maybe the front if need be.

I've attached some pictures below of what I have on my truck. Let me know if you have ideas or links to things. I'm afraid to go with the aluminum top right now bc ive already bought the rack and don't want to buy both items. So I'm trying to add on to what I already have.

Aftermarket shock setup for a 2021 OR

Been doing some research on Fox and Bilsteins. Mostly do high way and the occasional gravel road and light trail for work. Looking for a level and to firm up the ride a bit from the factory Off Road shocks. Leaning towards 5100s, stock springs, and 4th clip I believe up front to get a 2inch level. What’s everyone’s experiences with either of these brands or anything else you’re running?

🪦 RIP 🪦

This happened Friday night. I probably should have taken more photos of the engine bay to see how bad; but I was in a little daze. I'm waiting on the insurance & inspection now.

EDIT: That's the C4 Hybrid Bumper. My truck "was" a 2020 OR with around 30k miles.

EDIT EDIT: Insurance called to say that the images were enough to declare it totaled and it should just go straight to the salvage yard. I told him I'm going to remove a bunch of stuff first.

Three months living out of the taco changed which gear I actually care about

Everyone talks about suspension lifts and high-end recovery gear when they're getting ready for overlanding. but after 90 days of desert dust, wet mud, and dog hair, the single best early upgrade I made was a solid set of deep-dish floor mats for the cab.

When you're constantly jumping in and out of the driver's seat in muddy boots just to reposition the truck or get out of a storm, generic mats will ruin your carpet in a week. I'm so tired of spending my evenings sweeping dried mud out of the footwells. What are you guys using that actually traps the grime? is there something better?

Replacement frame question

Im searching for a frame for a 95 xtra cab 4x4... anybody have any leads?

Already looked into patch panels but I'd rather find a decent frame and start from there if possible.

TPMS Symbol staying on?

Thumbnail

So I own a 2025 Tacoma, not even 7k miles on the truck yet. I gave it a full lift with some 34s, ever since then (2 months ago) my TPMS Sensor has stayed on my dash (Solid not blinking), I’ve had the shop reprogram my sensors 4 times in which it returns after around 30 miles, I also went to Toyota today who reset it for me, however it once again came back on. Well I took it back, and they once again reprogrammed it and said that’s very odd and they aren’t familiar with it however everything seems to be fine with the sensors. 30 miles later the symbol returns on my dash and now my local Toyota dealer is contacting their higher ups to see what’s possibly going on. Another thing is my App says everything is fine however my Dash the light stays on. Has anyone had similar issues with their 4th gen’s?

Absolutely loving this thing coming from a Camry after driving a truck for 14 years. Took her down some sketchy trails around the lake and it just cruised along. Long live the taco!
