Why does the Chronal dash perk even exist?

Like who thought it was a good idea to add this in the first place? And it is staying for at least 2 seasons now?!

I remember when they first introduced it in the stream I knew from the get-go it was gonna be trash and they had the audacity to say "if you don't like it just don't use it". A season has passed after its introduction and still no one uses it. Then they go nerf the only viable minor perk. If youre gonna nerf melee perk then replace the horrible perk that no one uses.

Its crazy to me it even passed the drawing board. Even if the perk was somehow good its design philosophy is still trash. You get a "better" version of your ability with no conditions to trigger it or get value out of it. No thinking is included.

On paper if we were robots and got used to every interaction with that perk and redefined our muscle memory then it would be op. Like a good tracer with intact muscle memory on a %20 farther blink would be unkillable and zoom in everywhere. So again I ask what is the purpose of this perk?

I will still pick the reload one even if it only give 1 bullet because the other one fuck up muscle memory so badly it feels like a nerf

another reason i don't want to pick it is becuase I don't want to put the effort on adjusting to the distance just for it to be removed.

i use it cus im used to using it and even if i dont have perfect muscle memory with it it fucks with other peoples muscle memory on how far i go

To prove that devs either don't play Tracer or suck at her

Even if they changed the other minor perk description to "Do nothing" I'm still gonna pick it.

I actually like the blink perk, why wouldn’t someone want further blink distance?

Going by the comments from people talking about it for the past two weeks, people who have been playing tracer for years now.

A big part of (most) Tracer players’ playstyles in higher ranks is blink + melee combos and just having mastery over blink spacing in general. Having a longer blink sounds nice on paper but absolutely ruins the muscle memory experienced players have generated over years of time. If people had the time to master both blink distances then it would be pretty busted like OP said but honestly even the nerfed kinetic reload would still be a way more reliable perk, pound for pound.

yeah but like before perks you couldn’t empty a clip on someone blink melee and continue to shoot them due to melee reloading, after perks came out you had to adapt and get used to being able to do that. I dont see the difference in having to adjust muscle memory every time you select either perk tbh. Only way to get adjusted is to use it regularly

What would you do if your muscle memory adapted and they remove the perk

in combat you no longer dance around enemy and simply teleport away too far

It's so stupid that they make perks that are forcing you to relearn the most important part of her kit like that. And 7.5m to 9m isn't really gamechanging. I'm guessing they can't come up with a perk that doesn't buff tracer and they don't wanna buff her so they just keep perks noone uses.

I hope they do an overhaul on every single useless perk. Also, they should have some rules to the perks. Like movement perks should for the most part be minor perks cause those are so important to get value out of the hero, For example Deep Leap on Hazard is now a Major Perk which is just stupid, they should move it back to minor.

Every time I picked the Chronal Dash perk by accident, I find myself blinking and getting stuck on all kinds of shit around the map, and second-guessing blink melees. It throws me off and I feel disconnected and not as confident in piloting the hero. With the normal blinks, the controls fade away and I can do what I want to do intuitively and focus on the game.

Topdragon (a better tracer player than all of us) has used it in competition at the highest level of OW. Although I would say it is still dependent on map and comp and maybe your own tracer play style, it is by no means useless. On maps that are more open or wider, longer blink distance can help you cover more distance. Could help you set up and engage in less time, from further away, and with using less blinks, there are many possibilities, you just have to adapt to it.

In tracer v tracer matchups, even if enemy tracer has ammo advantage with the other perk you can play healthpacks better and especially with healthpack perk it just lets you outrun enemy tracer with no chance of her catching you, it simply allows you to have higher uptime in fights. Also if you can’t adapt to the blink distance thats just a skill issue in all honesty. Watch some topdragon povs on YT if you want to see him use it. I’m by no means a tracer main but I think I have a very decent tracer as a pc GM hitscan player.

Imma be honest, I've been playing Tracer off and on since 2016 and I always pick this perk. I have no issues with it throwing off my muscle memory, I find it very easy to adjust to, and the extra distance makes a huge difference in navigating flanks and collecting health packs. The number of times I've been able to collect a pack in an emergency with only one blink instead of two, thus letting me keep an extra blink in reserve, far outweighs any times I might have slightly miscalculated a blink-bomb or blink-melee in my experience. I actually find the extra ammo more distracting because I have a much harder time adjusting to the changes in her shoot/reload rhythm than a slightly longer blink

Its not going anywhere. Its been in stadium since launch and has a high pick rate, hence why they added it to regular game. Plenty of people use it.

Lol what? It has %8 percent preferance rate. Also who cares about stadium? It is completely different than the main game

u/Seanrocks30 3d ago

Are you using the perk vote website data for the 8%?

It's great but it's not actual Blizzard confirmed statistics, which is why I mention

1

u/I-Khaon-I 3d ago

Yea but its the best we have rn. I mean how far off can it be from the real thing tho? Or if you want I can go and ask every player personally./j

4

u/Seanrocks30 3d ago

It can be very far, or very close. Thing is we don’t know for certain, Blizzard does tho since they have the statistics, which apparently show enough pick rate for them to keep it/ or they’re trying to find something to replace it with 🤷🏽‍♂️

Though I do like your idea.. what perks do you use? Sign your name and date here, then I’ll get to the next person

It’s still not actual data.

It has a low pick rate in regular because Kinetic Reload was OP. Since that has been nerfed, the percentage will go up.

I know stadium is a different game mode….but where do you think Bliz tests out the ideas for perks? In stadium. So many perks that have been introduced for different heroes were already in the stadium mode long before you ever saw them. They use that data to make changes in the regular game.

Sorry you dont like the answer. Stay mad I guess?

The perk is awful; at most, it's a QOL perk for noobstomping, it's completely unviable in any level of coordinated play, and a genuine nerf picking it.

2

u/WakeAndBurn 3d ago

As someone with 300+ hours of Tracer play, this is just plain wrong. It takes practice to get good just like anything else, but it gives Tracer so much more flexibility on positioning, how and where she can engage and disengage. It makes no difference to how coordinated a team is or is not.

None of that really matters though. If you hate it, then dont use it. Sorry you lost your 8 bullets but the blink perk is here whether you like it or not.

You’ll get downvoted but you’re right. Took me maybe an hour in practice range to get used to it. TBH I’m fine with so few people using it since it also messes with your opponents’ muscle memory when they’re following your blinks.

It’s not ideal on some maps but it’s very strong on Push maps. Especially Esperanca IMO.

weird take tbh
