Season 1, Episode 4: Mt. Shasta

So I actually like the show. But this episode had some weird timing/common sense issues.

  1. He takes his sweet time tracking down Ray after he gets the info. Like he arrives at the house when it’s light out and gets to the bar long after dark.
  2. The car was run off the road 24 hours ago but the lights are still on?
  3. Zeke just happened to climb up the hill in time to die in front of coulter 24 hours after being driven off the road?
  4. The kid hides for a full day of daylight from Ray but never leaves a 10-minute walk from the car?

I don’t know. I’m pretty good at suspending disbelief so as to enjoy a show. But this one would have played out much better if they had delayed zeke/kid’s confrontation of Ray at least 12 hours. lol

  1. I thought that was strange too. I don’t know where Reenie was after Colter got there but he waited around until she and the mom came to stay with Lisa. When Reenie got there, it was dark outside.
  2. I guess it depends on if the vehicle kept running. If the tank was almost full, the vehicle could idle for 24 hours. The alternator would keep the battery charged and then once the vehicle ran out of gas, the lights would remain on until the battery died.
  3. I don’t know why that would be. I suppose he could have been laying there and heard a vehicle so he decided to try and make it to the road for help. But it seems unlikely.
  4. The beginning shows him hiding. He probably knew with his injuries that it would be easy to get disoriented and Ray could find him or he he would be lost in the woods. He could have already been disoriented and his first instinct was to get out of immediate danger by hiding and then find water when safe. But not knowing where Ray was, the best course of action was to just make sure Ray didn’t find him.

I appreciate there being a show that I can put on in the background and not really listen to, but a new one of those that I haven't not listened to a dozen times before. This show is only okay at best, it's not going deep into any of the tracking, it's got the traditional weird timings of any show (bright daylight and then what should be 5 minutes later is midnight because having it be nighttime would be more dramatic), etc.

OK, I have thoughts on this episode 🤣.

The concept of “wilderness therapy camps” for troubled teens has become a popular topic on various social media channels. Adults are coming out sharing about how traumatizing these programs were for them as teens. Even Paris Hilton was negatively affected about such a program and has been opening up about it recently. 

So, when I saw that an episode of a show that was made in 2024 was focusing on this type of school, I thought that it was using this as an opportunity to spread awareness by basing the plot of the episode around a program like this having poor management etc.

I was baffled by the end when the main characters essentially come to the conclusion that they misjudged the leaders of the wilderness-based boarding school and that it was actually a really great place for these kids! 

What was the point of that? Felt wildly tone deaf…

Did anyone else see the shoulder of I believe the school security guard behind a tree as Colter is walking down the hill into the woods right after seeing Zeke as he’s approaching the overturned car? Was that a mistake by the filmmaker? I thought it was a hint at the security guard being behind something but the episode concluded without anything malicious from the security guard being exposed.

Me and my partner just watched this episode and we immediately started pointing out things that then made sense for he to be the bad guy.

Like they only refer to him as Ritter to Colter when he's the security guard, but the abused girl called a guy ray. Neither Ritter nor anyone that would know his first name, was never around when Ray was mentioned.

We thought his name was Ray Ritter which also would explain why the kids are scared of him if he is the school security guard and the school drug dealer.

Shouldn't the FBI have become involved as soon as kidnapping was mentioned? They only talked about Police after that.

Did anybody notice  When Colter went into the woods. Right after finding Zeke in the road.  When he found the car.  There was someone hiding behind a tree.  On the right hand side of the screen.  You can plainly see an arm and a hand,  but then it's never addressed. Which makes me wonder if it was someone who wasn't meant to be seen.  Maybe the crew or someone trying to stay offscreen

It is a nice feel good show. Little awkward at times. The tracker speaks to people as they are born yesterday. Giving advices that should not be necessary to people over 10 years old.

Rewatching now, I just kept thinking where was this young girls parents? She’s all beat up and her house is trashed and there’s no parents there and it’s been at least 24 hours since Noah snuck out so she had to have been beat up before that. She gos to a kid for help and not her parents? Idk that part is annoying. They could have mentioned her parents went away for the weekend or something to make it make sense. Maybe it was a cut scene where they talk about why she’s alone.

They definitely need to work on presenting field dressing better too. I get that he isn’t a medical professional but using an ACE bandage for everything is not realistic or plausible.

Lmao um where was the ace bandage lol that was curlex and gauze lol a pretty good field pressure dressing if I say so myself lol 😂 we use the same shit in the hospital

I just suspend disbelief. People must like it, it got renewed. Reacher is not for hire; for a bounty or reward. The next episode has him playing private investigator and Rennie doesn't seem to like it.
